I reviewed the eight companies, spoke with their owners, and chatted with neighbors about their roofs. One name kept coming up...someone I had no quote from. Oscar Lopez! Repeatedly his name came up...just in talking to people who had new roofs. He does not have past customers; he has raving fans. People loved him and his pricing. I am among them now because he smoked all the other quotes, came and did the job quickly and without grief and is just the nicest guy. His entire crew was great...the kinda crew you go buy beers for. LOL We had termite damage and had to replace a great deal of wood. I had the entire new roof treated with Bora-Care, then tented the house for fumigation before using primer (to seal in the Bora-Care) and installing the underlayment. Oscar was completely supportive of this request and worked with our pest control contractor, returning to complete the roof a week later. Some roofers didn't wanna do this and told me it was not necessary but that's what I wanted so I could try to prevent the return of termites. As far as I'm concerned, Oscar's roofing company sets the customer care bar so high, other roofers need to charter a jet just to see it. Do yourself a favor...gather a ton of estimates and then meet with Oscar last. You'll instantly realize Oscar is head & shoulders above his competition. Zero room for improvement. We really liked what the owner had to say, in regard to how they do the work, and why they do it so well, along with their warranty. Another reason we chose Sandoval, is because they stuck to what they do best (roofing), and partnered with a small, really knowledgeable, solar company that they worked closely with, who reinstalled our solar panels better than they had been. We had been reluctant to fix our roof because we didn't know how to handle the solar. Sandoval Roofing beautifully took care of this worry of ours. They started my project without first obtaining the required city permit. The city eventually stopped the work because there was no permit, and the company only pulled one afterward. Another issue was the contract. They used the date they gave me the estimate instead of the actual date I signed the contract. When I tried to cancel, they told me I couldn't because they relied on the earlier date, even though it wasn't the date I signed. They also removed my swamp cooler without understanding how it worked and left a water pipe open, which left me without water for two days. My calls went unanswered until the second day. The craftsmanship itself looks good, but the lack of communication, poor project management, and the way the permitting and contract issues were handled made this a very stressful experience. I would recommend asking plenty of questions and making sure all permits and paperwork are correct before work begins.
