We ran into this place on its 'secret' customer appreciation day. yes, we got free hot dog and pop. OLIVET PARENT REVIEW…read more I'm a skeptic by nature. When it comes to how I view mechanic shops, I always assume they are crooks and liars until they prove otherwise. WOW! This Midas location proved otherwise 10 times over! We had a VERY intermittent problem with our A/C and we were 8 hours from home for a visit to Olivet. Jim (owner) and his team didn't brush the problem off just because they couldn't reproduce it. They dug in and kept going until they thought they had found the issue. We drove the car that evening and the intermittent problem happened again. I knew that when a problem is that sporadic that it is very difficult for a mechanic to diagnose, so I was not upset with them, but I expected for them to be frustrated to see me back the next morning. There was no frustrated, but a smiling, warm welcome and immediate empathy with me that the problem was not resolved. (AJ at the front desk is simply amazing!) They spent the day digging in again and by the end of the day were confident they had figured out the problem -- and they had! On top of it all, they could have charged me for a lot of labor for those two days of work, but Jim was so kind and I walked out having paid much less than would have been reasonable. My experience here was not simply based on the service rendered, but the interactions with the owner and team convinced me that I had a shop that were dedicated to honesty and fairness; wanting to build relationships, not grab dishonest bucks. My daughter will be beginning her freshman year at Olivet this Fall and this is where she will be taking her vehicle for maintenance and service. Thank you, Jim, AJ and the Midas crew!

The price of the oil change was reasonably priced since they were having a sale. After this procedure I was informed that my day time running light was out ( I was aware) they offered to replace it, I asked how much, I was told since a difficult process to replace the bulb it would be $100. I reluctantly decided to have it replaced. After it was done ( didn't take too long) my car was ready. The light bulb was $100 but the labor was more than the light bulb! I was not told about the labor charge, because I was led to believe the whole thing was "$100 . What a dishonest practice! I didn't notice a price chart nor did I look, since I trusted them. Never again! How do you people sleep at night, doing this to your customers? I will not be returning to your shop, for anything again.

So needless to say they will no longer be working on any more of my vehicles And the lady that answered the phone seems to enjoy talking down to their customers even when they are very knowledgeable about the issues they are having. Sadly I have seen this happen a few times at the Bourbonnais location as well as her talking down to me. Not really something I like to see and deal with when I'm already stressed about getting my truck serviced Most the time I will do my own repairs seeing I am a gear head and am extremely knowledgeable about the repairs I'm seeking. Just upsetting to have to deal with that kind of rudeness when I'm already stressing about the repairs. The difference is the obvious level of skills and restrictions by the people doing the work compared to a true automotive mechanic. For what I saved in the price for my tires, including mounting and road hazard warranty, I lost because the mechanic couldn't get one of my locking lugnuts off and I had to go elsewhere to get it removed and the new tire installed. Not the mechanics' fault but Walmart's as they limit what their mechanics are able to do. I give 3 stars because the mechanic felt bad and tried to do everything to resolve the problem. I hope he goes to an automotive school and gets licensed because I believe he would be great. Had the locking lugnut not been an issue, I would have been very happy with the price of the 4 new tires. That one issue erased my savings as I had to pay another shop $140 to get the locking lugnut off and mount my 4th tire.

When I picked it up, I was informed the back left tire dragged on the way out of the shop but they "managed to break it free". When I drove part of the way home, all I could hear was grinding from the rear. By driving, this destroyed my parking brake system as all internal drum parts were destroyed by the loose stud. Shop refused to accept fault and would only cover labor for the hub replacement. Now I'm stuck with repairing my parking brake system that was fully operational prior to this visit. Never returning.

Just recently I took my rav4 xle in because of a strange sound coming from the wheel vicinity and was getting louder called Goodyear and was told to bring it in no appointment within an hour was told that hub bearings were shot on my 189000 mile rav4 the guys there got the job done as soon as the part was delivered! Already knew that my five year old battery was dying a slow death but I was in a state of denial and earliest appointment at the dealership was too late my luck had run dry and I it was early evening so I contacted Goodyear and they took me in hook the car up found that I had no more cold cranking power (amps) was dead so they got me in and out in a little over an hour with a new battery and just in time because a cold snap with high winds came in yikes! I went in for repair on my car $1,700 and they tried to give it back to me with the check engine light still on, they pulled it back into the shop and a day later called and informed me I had to buy a $300 battery so that they could further investigate what the problem was not knowing how much more they were going to charge me... I told them I would go and buy a battery but they insisted it had to be theirs with that I took my car to a dealer who found the same cold breakdown that they got when I first pulled it in! They're they're corporate office will not call me back I tried to get a hold of the owner no luck there either hell further pursue this with whatever legal actions I need to take.... If there is anything they don't know (which is rare), they will be upfront about it and won't act as though they know it, unlike many others. They are willing to help you as much as they can. They even go out of their way to find information for brand new cars, that many others don't care about. EDIT - I was there a week back to install my transmission mount (CTS Turbo transmission mount). I went there unannounced and they found time to accommodate me in between their busy schedule. Got the car on a lift and, while trying to install the mount, realised CTS had sent me the wrong mount. They put the oem mount back in and got the car on the ground. I wanted to pay them for their time but they didn't charge me a cent!!!! Shocking considering no one would do that for someone they haven't ever seen and just walked in. They said it wasn't my fault that I got the wrong part and wouldn't charge me for it. They asked me to come in when I get the correct mount. I have an appointment on 02/07/17. Looking forward to dealing with them for all my installs from now on. If there was a way to give them more than 5 stars, I would!! EDIT 2 - So I did visit them a second time after I got the right mount. They installed it for me in less than five minutes. And the funny part. They charged me less than what they quoted over the phone (which was less than a quarter of what the others quoted)!!!! I mean. Who does that? The best I've ever dealt with in Bourbonnais. Highly recommended.
