Wow! Lisa is JUST as great as everyone says she is! I was looking through yelp for a place to get a haircut.. and I found Tique with its amazing reviews - so I made an appointment right away! Lisa has a serious load of talent, and I came out not only looking gorgeous but also feeling like a whole new inspired person. I usually go into a new salon feeling nervous and uncertain if my hairdresser will give me a good haircut...but Lisa set that aside immediately when she sat me down to decide what I wanted for my hair. As she cut my hair, I could see that she had a real eye for seeing the beauty that no one else knew was there... and a hand for bringing it out. My haircut ended up being even better than I imagined! Getting a haircut by Lisa is a true experience. I trust her completely even though I've always been pretty conservative when getting my haircut. She won't do anything that she knows isn't right for you but she's also not afraid to experiment if you're up to it. Words cannot express just how happy I am with my haircut! I have had some pretty awful haircuts, especially since moving to the USA and found it hard to find a good hairdresser. I saw Lisa's reviews on Yelp and, after 3 years of no haircuts and a desire to donate some of my extremely long hair to charity, made an appointment. Lisa was very understanding when I had to cancel last minute as I was sick. When I finally made it to Lisa's salon, she really listened to what I did (and didn't want), asked great questions and quickly set to work cutting off over a foot of hair for donation. First cut and color since February before COVID started and after just having a baby so needless to say I was in desperate need of some pampering. No longer able to make a whole day of going into SF to my old salon with a one month old baby at home, I needed to find someplace convenient from my house and also safe during this pandemic. I drove by Tique salon one day and saw the sign about outdoor haircuts and decided to give it a try. Glad I did! Lisa was very sweet and efficient at cutting, coloring, and styling my hair. I asked for layers and subtle balayage which turned out great and for a better price compared to salons in the city. I was the only customer inside the salon during my visit and the owner Lisa was able to take another customer outside while my color processed. She works on hair like she is a designer - keeping a journal of magazine clippings and photos to keep track of latest trends and hair styles, and posting up photos by her workstation as inspiration. I had read all the wonderful reviews on Yelp and made an appointment. I left a message and Lisa called back the next day to schedule. I had a lot of hair. Too much. It is curly, thick and somewhat unmanageable. Lisa asked a few questions, looked at me some, and began to work. I will admit, I was a bit nervous as the hair was flying and dropping around me. I thought "Oh shit, she cut it too short, it's going to curl up all weird once I wash it"... Suffice it to say, I love my haircut and will be going back when I can. Lisa herself is just as the rest of the reviews state - super talented, has an eye for the right look, and seems to have an extra sensory vision of how your hair should fall from your head. I came to Tique after searching on Yelp and reading all the interesting reviews. I was intrigued that she had so many positive reviews, no negative reviews and comes across as a little New-Age with lots of animals. I called early one morning hoping to be scheduled that same day or the next. I just woke up that morning and was sick of my hair. I was already pushing it with waiting about 9 weeks between haircuts and I was definitely in need of some trimming. I called and luckily a late afternoon appt had canceled. Bingo. I didn't time my trip from the city over the Bridge to Tique very well, and probably left about 10 minutes too late. I also hit some major traffic. I called about 10 minutes before my appointment to notify Lisa I would be late. She couldn't really wait for me, but did offer me a later appointment. I arrived, this time on time, and I will say, it was unlike any other salon experience I have had. It was late, probably about 5:30pm, and things were definitely finished for the day. Lisa was working on another client, I think she was getting highlights or something. Everything was super-casual. I also met her dog and the tropical bird I read about in previous posts. I told Lisa that while I like the length of my hair, I wanted my hair relayered and just overall lightened. I have really thick, fairly coarse hair and it gets crazy bulky. She gave me one of the top 3 haircuts of my life. Suggested I just use leave in conditioner and gel for styling and to retain my wave. Gave me TONS of free samples of Bumble & Bumble stuff. Like it last me 3 months. Awesome. Definitely worth trying. Lisa is really cool and laid-back and will totally put you at ease. She is completely down-to-earth about hair (i.e. not a bitchy snob like 90% of hairdressers can be) yet knows her shit. Check her out! read more

It's high time to update this old review. I stopped going to Lisa maybe 4 years ago. While it's very true that she is a talented haircutter and colorist, she is also insane - and not in a good way. Her brain is broken, and the people I know who still see her all complain in detail about having to talk with her and listen to her bizarre nonsense. They dread the visits, though they think she cuts hair well. For me, the deal killers were - 1) As a working parent I needed to reschedule occasional appointments and she was ALWAYS a totally snippy prima donna about it. Zero understanding about sick kids, work deadlines, etc. Just a massive pain in the rear at all times. 2) It was often just uncomfortable to sit in her salon and get a haircut because she'd be pissed off at someone and just exude rage and awkwardness (I still hear about this from friends). 3) No wifi, so I could not work while there. I switched to Jaujou and now see Wane, who though probably not quite as gifted as Lisa is incredibly pleasant, professional, flexible, and my hair still gets many compliments. The salon has wifi and I feel relaxed and pampered when I go there. :-) Tique is THE BEST. I am going to have to agree with Emi - Lisa may very well be the top hairstylist (and colorist) in the Bay Area. I've been to some of the top salons in SF, LA, NYC, DC and the bottom line is that my hair has never looked better than with Lisa. She has some supernatural talent. My very polished realtor, whose hair always looked spectacular, recommended Lisa to me about 2 years ago, and I am so glad she did. I recently told Lisa that no matter how bad the economy gets, I'd give up an awful lot of non-essentials in my life, from wine to pedicures to sushi, before I'd give up Tique. My hair takes more care now that I'm in my early 40s, but I don't think it has EVER looked cuter, sexier or better. I walk out of there looking great, and have rec'd some amazing compliments - and the best part is, 6 weeks later it's like getting a 2nd gorgeous cut - it grows out incredibly well. She is magic with scissors, and she just totally gets color. She's given me lots of advice over time, and she doesn't mince words ... but it's the best advice! She is right every time. She isn't inexpensive, but she's also not at all expensive - I've surveyed other decent salons in the Berk/Oak area (and I'm talking decent salons, not big name places) and Tique is very close to average. Lisa is SO SO worth it. Yeah, and I go to the Berkeley salon on Ashby, but I'd even drive to her place in Martinez in a heartbeat. read more

I don't tend to write a lot of reviews and I don't know why it has taken me so long to do this one. I have been seeing Lisa now for about 3 years. She is phenomenal! I actually moved away a year and a half ago, scoured all of yelp to find something close to me but just couldn't! Lisa is the best, and I just couldn't trust anyone else. I know this makes me a tricky customer but I literally walk in there and she asks what I want, and I just have to say, "Lisa, I trust you." I have NEVER been disappointed! Ever!!! I've had a hard time finding a good hair cut professional in Berkeley. Lisa gave me exactly what I wanted, which is a one-length bob. A one-length bob with a very blunt line that is slightly longer in the front than the back. It sounds simple but based on my multiple haircut disasters since moving to Berkeley, it is a lot harder than it sounds. My brother cuts hair in Chicago. He has always said that a one-length bob, the kind that hang like you just walked out of the salon after you have washed and dried it yourself, and keeps that polished look for a couple months, is a precision haircut that can be very hard to do. Lisa knew exactly what I described and then she gave me the cut I wanted. At first, when she was done, I gave her a little feedback for next time. She insisted on fixing what I did not like, the fix only took a few minutes. She saw exactly what I wanted, saw how she had been off just by a little bit. And she did fix it. I'll be sticking with Lisa from now on. I scheduled my next appointment in December. $65 for a good haircut is a bargain, in my humble opinion. I've paid a little less for several very disappointing and some disaster cuts. I'll stick with Lisa. And I like hearing her happy birds. Got a cut last night from Lisa - went to her after seeing all the great reviews on Yelp and because it's close to my house. I was not disappointed! Was a little nervous about her free and easy style - she told me to "go with it and to accept what comes" but I did what she told me and am very happy with the results. Atmosphere is as described - comfy and homey - VERY cute, well behaved dogs and a pretty bird. WHole experience was great-she even threw in a free eyebrow waxing (1s time free, then $10). Somebody recommended to come to Lisa's salon when I was visiting UC Berkeley in 2009. I have never made it in 2009 (what I really regret), but finally had a chance a week ago. I've dyeing my hair myself, because in Austria where I was living, it is extremely expensive to do it in a hair salon! My natural color is brown with a lot of red pigment in it, but the best color for me is an ash or platinum blond. No matter how hard I tried (I used Walgreens and CVS as well as "hair-salon" colors) I would always get some yellow near the roots and nice blond hair below that got the color already at least twice. After a year of such struggle I decided to give up and ask for help. The other reason I went to Lisa is because I also was pretty tired of other salons that would do you only what they want and not what I want! I was very very satisfied with the outcome. Lisa made my yellow go away! My color looks even and my hair feels healthy! I love it! I didn't mentioned the other important thing. My hair is really long (below my waist) and neither I nor boyfriend want me to cut it. However, we needed to cut it just a little bit, so that my hair still stays long, but gets this "healthy light weight". Lisa did a great job, my boyfriend was impressed and said: "We like her". :) Thanks a lot! I would highly recommend to come and get the hair done. Let me tell you, I'M PICKY. Lisa was able to get rid of most of the orange tones I had before (I made a collage, see the upper picture) and made it into this perfectly blended blonde (2 lower pictures)! I moved to the bay area 2 years ago and switched 6 different hairdressers, they all were crazy expensive and I wasn't pleased with their work!
