I happened to mention to a friend how I wished I could have my head massaged by a professional and…read moreshe turned me onto the concept of "head spa," which I had never heard of before. Well, I went down a rabbit hole and found Poppy and Monroe! A head spa is more than just a massage. At Poppy and Monroe, they give you a scalp analysis, massage, and essential oil treatments, with plenty of warm, rushing water to rinse and finesse. My treatment, which was pretty pricey at around 300 bucks, also included a facial (the esthetician rubbing my face was divine), foot massage, and hand/arm massage. At the beginning of the head treatment, Anna (who was AMAZING, by the way) showed me what was good and bad about my hair and scalp--my scalp was some of the best she'd seen, but was a little pale and needed more blood flow. She then showed me what my scalp looked like after that treatment, and there was indeed more blood flow, and looked more vibrant and less anemic. Anna was professional and kind and told me what she was doing every step of the way. She made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Everything felt wonderful. The vibe was calm. I felt relaxed. After the visit, Anna gave me pointers on how to care for my scalp and recommendations for returning for further treatments, but not in a gimmicky-trying-to-sell-me-stuff way. The space is warm and welcoming and also offers pedicures, manicures, and makeup sessions. The pedicure/manicure spaces are a little close together for my taste (I prefer private rooms), but they are stylish and clean. I plan to come back and see Anna again to work on my self care regimen. And there are lots of cute restaurants and shops in the area, so you can park and make an afternoon of it!

I went one time to this salon a few months ago and they did great. I called back today (tried 6…read moretimes) and they had me blocked. I had to *67 to get through. But the situation got odder. Again I have only been here once and had my AirPods on watching a show the entire time while getting my nails done, not saying a peep! Please, please, Please do not go here, they discriminated against me because I was the only African American person getting my nails done in the salon. I made a 5:30 PM appointment in which they were taking walk-ins of a different skin color in front of me and proceeded to have me as the last person finished and out of the building. I called back today thinking I would give this salon another try and asked for a different person to do my pedicure because things happen and the salon was busy. However, the manager advised me none of his people are taking new clients and no one was free for weeks. I even asked "do you not want my business and that I was confused because he was basically refusing to let me make the appointment after I asked him about 5 different times and dates" I even left a nice tip and review prior so again...I was super confused on why I got treated this way. I have never been discriminated like this against in MY LIFE. As a family that just moved to Nashville from Houston for my husbands job transfer, we will be telling everyone we know about this experience. I am highly disappointed on the disgusting treatment of the manager and this establishment. This was a terrible experience that needs to be heard. Run and fine kinder people to do your nails. You do not treat people and good clients giving you business this way, period!

Giving 2 stars because the gal working the front desk was at least kind, even if she spoke as meekly as a mouse and I could barely hear her. Strike 1: The lady who did my pedicure was somewhat brusquely rude despite how polite I was to her the whole time and I felt like she was low-key shading me to the other workers for daring to repeatedly correct her when she kept pushing me for gel when I cannot do gel pedicures due to my sensitive toenails. Strike 2: I had to ask her 3 TIMES for something to drink. Another worker nearby finally stepped in after my third request, when my pedicure was nearly over! Drinks should *always* be offered either before or right as patrons sit down. Strike 3: My pedicure was just okay...probably will chip based on my results, not to mention my toenails are snagging on everything because she didn't bother to buff out my nails after filing them down. Sorry, Color Me True: you're out.
