We each chose a sandwich from the counter. My smoked salmon on focaccia was a delight. The bread, airy and light, beautifully happy yeast just bounding with lift, defying the constraints of olive oil which left my fingers gloriously glistening. I haven't had a focaccia as happy as that in a minute. Super thin radish, bright pickled shallot and fresh watercress all gave a nice vibrant touch. Ben's cream cheese couldn't possibly be creamier. And the delicate, silky, fresh, luxurious salmon... What a dream. So balanced. I filled my arms with goods- iberico salami, Aleppo chili oil, Blackstrap coffee beans, local chocolates, and an adorable Talbott & Arding puzzle. I'm sure I could have easily convinced myself to buy just about everything I laid my eyes upon. The cheese counter was an absolute work of art. It's clear that Talbott & Arding is a willing servant to the gifts of the surrounding earth and people. The homage it pays is palpable. Our stop at Talbott & Arding set the tone for an intentional, peaceful, vibrant, cozy, delicious, connected trip. I'll be back immediately.

With that and the prepared food case, it's so convenient and delicious to pick up a few items to complete a nutritious home meal. While I was in Mechanicville very recently, I decided to check out Park Avenue Confectionary to pick up a box of gourmet truffles for MOI- I heart truffles! I deserve a nice treat every now and then. This little chocolate and confectionary shop stocks homemade chocolates and candies including chocolate bars (white, milk chocolate, dark, etc), lollipops, special themes (molded chocolates), bagged chocolate covered candies, chocolate covered pretzels, dgift boxes, and baskets. They also carry sugar free varieties too. The prices here are very fair: $9.95/lb for chocolates and $14.95/lb for truffles. I've been to other chocolate shops near my home,, some of which charge almost double. The owner was very accomodating in helping me to customize and choose an assortment of truffles (24 pieces/12 oz box). There were around 20 choices of truffles to choose from, and I was pointing out what I wanted from outside the glass case. This was like choosing what kinds of donuts I wanted for an assortment (give me one glazed, two jelly, three cruellers, etc), you get the idea. The total came out to just under $14 with tax. I brought the box of truffles into work for ME to indulge on while I was crunching numbers and calculations at my desk (my coworkers are on their New Year's diet, hehe). Each of the truffles tasted very fresh and had a nice hard shell outside with creamy and rich ganache inside. The hazelnut was my favorite. The truffles went well with my daily cup of Starbucks Coffee. It took me the whole week to finish the box, munching on a few pieces each day. What a sweet week! As members, we don't just receive weekly shares in a place where we know the farmers and know where & how our (safe, healthy, organic) food is grown, but we have access to -- my favorite -- the picking garden. Each week of the entire growing season, we are invited and encouraged to walk through the picking garden, making a flower bouquet to take home, and cutting the herbs we'd need in the coming week. You know how people join places like Berkshire Botanical Gardens? Walking through the picking garden, gathering peace in the sunshine is that. And it's a kind of home, a kind of deep connection to where our food comes from and to the people who work on the land to cooperate with the earth and, in much sweat, bring the goodness to us. I have multiple health problems - stressful chronic health needs that are deeply met by fresh organic food. I can't eat processed food at all. I know I need vegetables constantly. I want to support my local farmers. A CSA makes sense. And these farmers support ME in healthy community -- you've gotta hear about the potlucks! Learning about bread-making from a local author was February and I'm still super-excited! -- and healthy community, by every health and longevity study, is THE factor to be rich in. They took an old battered barn and turned it into an amazing store. They seem to have some very happy cows and pigs. I follow them on facebook and I knew they filled growlers with beer from local breweries including Chatham Brewery and Reifenberg Brewing in Valatie. I've always wanted to try their meat so I stopped today and picked up a pound of bacon and had my growler filled. The shop is pretty awesome. Besides beer, beef and pork they carry a lot of food stuffs that are made local. They've got honey, maple syrup, jams and Battenkill milk. From late spring to mid fall they do dinners outside on the weekends. I haven't been but they look pretty amazing. It's on my list for next summer. They seem to be only open right now from 3-6 on Fridays and 9 to 1 on Saturdays but I would check their facebook page before going. It's definitely worth checking it out.

They also sell vacuum packed pasta with seasoning in it. In the fridge you can find frozen sausages. The salami is priced based on the weight which is determined at the counter. According to yelp app, you get free item for purchase over $15 (I forgot what it was) but I was told that is an old item so it was not available. The store keeper was very nice to give me a pack of olives.

They're cheeses are all a must alongside their breakfast sausages and Italian sausage. Full of great flavor and incredibly lean with all the great taste. The rest of the store is stocked with pasta, sauces, breads, local goods, chocolate, ice cream and granola. Everything I've had has been delicious and I can't help but keep going back for some of my favorites. You'll find their name in local markets and farmers markets.
