Our most recent concert brought us back to this awesome venue for a show with Ozomatli this past Tuesday evening - This show did not disappoint! The Los Angeles based band has been together for almost two decades now, and it showed in their performance as they smoothly moved from urban latino - to hip hop, to cumbia, salsa and funk. This was an awe inspiring show, for both performers and the audience, as many have been, that I have seen at this venue in recent years. Playing at the Van Duzer theater, artists, musicians and performers all seem to thrive in this special and magical venue. It truly does bring out the best in those who play this stage. The audiences are some of the best in the world, and if you go to a show at this venue, you will find and see that those who do attend are there because they love the music and the artist performing. This in turn translates to the musicians and performers and as such the shows here are always spectacular and amazing in their own right. It does not get any better than this for live music. From the dinner menu, I ordered the very unique seaweed salad. It had seaweed three ways, fried crispy, slices and dried flakes. A completely different meal than offered anywhere else, it included crusty grilled plump shrimp and was full of umami flavor and nutty sesame oil. I would love to experience this dish again! I am so disappointed to hear they have closed permanently. I will finish my review anyway because I truly enjoyed this place, even for snackies.
