I've been watching Tiny Grocery on Instagram and loving their vibe, so I finally checked them out today. Midday on a Tuesday means plentiful parking out front. There are so many unique products tucked in this tiny store, plus a deli and coffee shop! I don't usually like Matcha, but decided to try the Strawberry Matcha. Happened to stumble upon this store since we ate right next to it. Very nice little spot that's corner store size with a classier touch. I found a lot of nice and unique products. We walked in right before they closed without noticing and the employee was nice to let us browse and still buy a few things after he locked up. Really appreciate that! We needed a quick pick-me-up and saw the tiny window to order some lattes. Lucky for me, they had matcha available. Their menu was small and concise but they had great options. I may be partial to this place because this grocer is in my hood and only a few minutes walk away. This place is kind of like a quaint boutique grocer. Bonus is that they carry a wide variety of unique and hard to find items. Unique foods, unique gifts, unique toiletries, unique kitchen supplies... and that's not even all of it. I've found myself buying things I wasn't even looking for. Some of these things have now become staples in our home. They even have a few beautiful bouquets of flowers at reasonable prices. When I say beautiful I mean like unique flowers....not your average daisy bouquet. I'm feelin' like a broken record over here repeating the word unique lol - but gets my point across. We did recently purchase a freshly made sandwich from their delicatessen. Definitely good flavors but would have liked a little bit more filling substance in the sandwich for the price. Something that some people may consider a negative? Prices may be a little higher than say... going to your chain grocer. But keep in mind, it's not necessarily like comparing apples to apples when it comes to products. I was walking by SoCo and I stumbled upon this gym. I was super hungry for something easy and at the back of the store is a little bakery with home cooked style meals. I bought some wine, meat, other eclectic items, and a slice of the casserole to sit outside to scarf down something quick and be on my merry way. I took a bite (it wasn't warmed up) and that immediately tasted like heaven. The flavour and spices were perfect and the temperature of the food did not matter. I was staying in the area for a week and was so excited to find this little gourmet market so close to my Airbnb. They have fantastic sandwiches, delicious soups, and a great selection of high-quality, prepared foods -- truly a gem when it comes to what they offer. But what absolutely ruined the experience, day after day, was the staff. Every single time I went in -- and I mean every day during my week-long stay -- I was treated like an inconvenience. The women working behind the counter were consistently rude, dismissive, and acted like it was a personal burden to acknowledge or help me. The vibe was cold and unwelcoming from the moment you walked in. It was completely unclear how to order anything from the prepared foods case. There was no one manning the station most of the time, and when I asked if someone could help me, it felt like I'd interrupted something sacred. The eye rolls. The sighs. The general air of ugh, why are you even here? It was beyond uncomfortable -- and not once did anyone attempt to offer basic courtesy or customer service. I wasn't asking for the world -- just to buy food they're selling. The cherry on top came when I asked for the gazpacho -- which was delicious, by the way -- in a larger plastic container, because the ones they had out were laughably shallow and not even close to a normal soup portion. The response? I was told, straight-faced, that "the lids weren't fitting properly today." I'm sorry, what? That's quite possibly the dumbest excuse I've ever heard -- just say you don't want to deal with it. It was so transparently lazy and condescending that I genuinely had to stop myself from laughing. The reality is, their food is excellent. The market itself is well-stocked, with beautifully made products and gourmet items that are hard to find elsewhere. But I won't give them another dime. No food is good enough to justify being treated like you're an annoyance just for wanting to make a purchase. It's called hospitality for a reason -- and if every single person I interacted with over the course of seven days had the same attitude, the issue isn't one rude employee. It's the culture. If the owners care at all about staying in business, they need to clean house and bring in staff who actually understand what it means to work in a customer-facing role. This spot was so cute and perfect to grab a quick bite while you're shopping! We were hungry but didn't want to sit for a full service meal, so we dipped in here to grab a quick bite from the deli. The service at the deli was a little slow (we waited for 10-15 min), but the food was delicious and the store itself was very cute and fun to look around. Produce is great, kombucha's great, outdoor patio is great, employees are always cool but I saw something today that made me pause, the ready-made food area had lots of food that had congealed and clearly weren't in any shape to be displayed yet alone eaten. Wow! If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out. Their breakfast options are fantastic! Today was our first time eating here, but it definitely won't be our last! We tried the breakfast biscuit sandwich (bacon, egg, cheddar cheese, on a biscuit) and honestly feel it might be the best breakfast biscuit sandwich in Austin. It was that good! The everything bagel w/ cream cheese was perfect. The salmon w/ lox on a salt bagel was fantastic, as well. Austin, TX. Great place to get a latte on Congress Ave. the espresso is rich and bold and the froth is steamed perfectly. Of the choices available on Congress, this is my favorite. While coffee is brewing we ordered sandwiches for lunch which turned out to be delicious. Made with organic and local ingredients including the meats. I really liked how they grill the bacon for each order, not precook it and put it in a pile. We could not resist the array of pastries and desserts baked on the premises, all very well made. Service is always so, so terrible. I just left after waiting at the deli counter for a long time with zero acknowledgement, when two employees could clearly see me and made eye contact with me through an open window behind the deli counter. They continued their conversation. Even if it's not their immediate "job" in that moment, it's insane that they couldn't even tell me "hey we'll grab someone for you!" Or "give us a few minutes!" I've worked as a server, bartender, and service industry manager for over 10 years and I rarely leave a negative review because I understand that even the best place can experience a difficult moment that isn't an apt reflection of its people or it's standards. But I've been here about 5 or 6 times (it's on my route to work/about 1.5 miles from my house) and only once has it not been an insulting experience. I was at the store just now for over 10 minutes and left without purchasing anything because I'm on the go. I finally went and asked the girl at the barista counter if someone was working the deli, and she started to walk over to help me, but as soon as some other guests walked in towards the cafe she was like "sorry I have to help them" ...????? Why help the guest that JUST arrived when she saw me walking around the store (in case the person working the deli was doing something else) and I had finally asked for help? She was very sweet and clearly the only person trying/ was stretched too thin when the other people there couldn't be bothered to care. Anyways. I could go on about the other poor treatment I've received in past visits but this review is long enough lol. Doesn't seem like anything will happen, and management is either complacent or part of the issue, as there are multiple reviews like this. read more

It seems like a bad representation of what a local-ish market can be esp for a somewhat progressive place like Hyde park. I would just go to the flag store, the gelatoro or even fresh plus and those surrounding stores. Best egg salad sandwich I've ever had! I had never been or ordered but on a whim, I ordered this particular sandwich to be delivered. I fell in love, it's so fresh & delicious. It was put together so neatly & wrapped in brown paper. I also would like to call attention to the nice staff. I was having issues ordering again so I called to inquire about the egg salad. Jesse let me know they still had some & I let her know I was having issues. So she offered to take an order for me for pick up. I started following TINYGROCER on Instagram when I saw an Austin travel page post it. Mother's Day weekend I had to meet my sister in Austin to get my mom so of course my sister and I had already made plans to hit them up and see what they were all about. It is the CUTEST little grocery store ever! The outside gives you the feeling of being somewhere on the islands, clean, crisp, lots of plants. We were immediately greeted when we walked in and I asked permission to take some pictures as I shopped and I was give freedom to take pics and videos. They have a great selection of gourmet and unique snacks, ingredients, coffees, and prepared foods. It is definitely not the place to stop and do your weekly groceries but it's great when you are staying at an ABNB or boutique hotel and need to pick up some fun snacks. They are also great for finding some unique gourmet items to prepare a special meal. There is a great selection of wines from around the world and local Austin beers, ciders, and IPA's. It's a great place to purchase goods that are locally owned and made too! I am 100% for supported small and local business. Walking down the isles you will find unique chips, one-of-a-kind dried meats, and beautiful aromatic spices. Keep in mind this is a specialty store, so you will not find bargain store prices, but the quality and uniqueness of the items come with an equally unique price. I filled up my basket with a sparkling wine, canned rain water, and some fun snacks for my drive back to San Antonio. Im torn as all hell here. I absolutely love the store, the vibes, the staff, the inventory of delectable treats. Its fantastic in all those regards. Now maybe i'm a cheap-o, maybe i'm crumbling under the stress of a collapsing capitalist economy, or maybe i'm onto something who knows, maybe all three...BUT the prices are absolute garbagio. I can swing by any other grocer and get an Olipop for anywhere from $2-$2.5 a 12 oz can, yet these people have the audacity (or blind greed) to charge $4 for a measly little 12 oz-er. Thats just one example of a whole store of price gauging. Its tragic because i work in the area and would honestly be in there a whole lot more giving them my money if their prices were more fair. But instead allow myself to wander in there about 1 out of every 7 cravings. So if you're much more well off and have some abundance of cash flow then check this place out. read more

Based on recent developments, the second location will be larger and also have a French themed restaurant inside called Bureau de Poste (French for post office) with former Top Chef contestant Jo Chan as chef. As one of the world's biggest Francophiles, I can't wait until it's all up and running. I have walked past this gem 100x before venturing in and was incredibly impressed with my accidental visit. All items are artisanal and clearly hand selected. The displays and organization are incredibly thoughtful, including the music selection. Most importantly is how much is packed into this tiny place including a coffee shop (with a takeout window) and a deli in the back, which is easy to miss, so please do not! After a screaming endorsement by one of the employees I ordered the Sicilian Hoagie. Being from Philadelphia, I was skeptical of the "hoagie" terminology being a gimmick. I've been wondering about this place ever since I first discovered it online during the pandemic. I was in the area recently and decided to pop in for an iced coffee. What an amazing little shop! Very friendly staff working here who were very welcoming. I did a quick lap around the store to see what types of items they offered. As others have mentioned, they have very high-quality grocery items that you would find at someplace like Whole Foods or Wheatsville. A curated selection of locally/regionally sourced organic produce, excellent coffee selection from local coffee merchants, and lots of novelty items like Goo Goo Clusters and Gin Gins. They also have a small deli area with fresh made salads and sandwiches and other items that look fantastic. The store reminded me somewhat of the Royal Blue Grocery stores, but this is more compact and yet stocked with much more inventory. If I lived near here I'd be in here all the time. Everything about this TinyGrocer is charming! Everyone was super friendly and helpful in the store. I am thoroughly impressed that a such a small space has everything you could need. Their produce was fresh, and they have such a great assortment of local food products. I could spend hours perusing the housewares. It's the perfect spot to hit up before a dinner or birthday party for a good bottle of wine (or any number of na options) and a cool gift. They even have to go frozé out the window. We were so impressed with how good the food looked we ordered sandwiches and side salads. We had the BLT and the Sicilian. They did not disappoint! I'm a huge fan of tiny fancy grocery stores like this. You couldn't get everything you need grocery wise here (or if you did you'd spend a zillion dollars) but it's always fun to come in and buy a few random fancy things. I got some booch, spicy peanut butter, and sausage. I also got to chat with the owner who is also from the Bay Area. Super nice person! Recently pulled into the Tiny Grocer for what I thought would be a quick trip but wasn't. We came on a whim to avoid brunch lines next door. The service at the deli counter was unpleasant and awkward. However our coffee service at the coffee bar was amazing and coffee was yummy. The overall ambiance of this bodega was top notch - a little of everything located inside. I would have given it five stars had it not been for the crazy long wait and stares from staff. AWESOME breakfast sandwich. Every element was clearly thought out and executed with care; the biscuit was tender and flavorful, the egg was fried a perfect "over medium" so the yolk was still a little soft, the bacon was thick and crunchy, and the aged cheddar was melted and gooey. I took my two closest friends here to get a quick bite to eat and a bottle of wine. Both of my friends are bilingual and were primarily speaking Spanish while in the store. When they came up to check out the female cashier with a blue cast on her right hand came behind their cashier and said "have you ever seen Alvin and the chipmunks" then giggles and she looked both my friends both up and down.
