The donuts themselves are just as good. Fresh, delicious and old school in a good way. Choose from a large assortment of classics. Cake and Yeasted varieties. Filled and not. Give them a try if you haven't yet. They've been there a long time for a good reason. Also: we have a family member with a nut allergy. He's been ok both times, as far as cross contamination is concerned.

The fillings are no longer ample but just enough so you can see/taste it, the dough was not cooked all the way though (at least the 8 filled ones anyways) and from a dozen, it went up just over $10. From a dozen that was perfectly made and filled and including tax was $13.20 and now with tax is $23.98 (price hike June 1st) to not so good & hardly filled. I also noticed that the employees were also different and not so friendly anymore. Maybe it was too early in the morning. Time to fid another doughnut shop, maybe the gas station next to it.

I got a jar of some spicy pickles, since my brother loves pickles so much. These were some of the best he has had. They also sell a lot of different jellies and jams. Moreover they do have a deli. But the offerings range from good to excellent: none of their doughnuts are mediocre, and some are truly excellent. It's definitely worth it to support a small local business delivering superlative food. Hetty Arts has two regular features that beat out all the other doughnuts around: their sour cream old fashioned, and the apple fritter. The old fashioned just looks like an "artisan" pastry, with its uneven top. But the crispy outer layer is perfect, and the cake inside has great flavor and crumb. Similarly, the apple fritter - in an area with no shortage of apple fritters - is probably the best you'll find. It has a nice crust and doesn't suffer from being oily or heavy. It has brightness and sweetness from the apple and isn't obscured by too much spice in the pastry itself. Hetty Arts has other regular features like their Boston cream, but I found the filling to be a little on the bland side even though the pastry itself was light and tasty. But their rotating special doughnuts are often truly excellent. This week I had a butterscotch potato chip doughnut, and it simply blew away every other pastry I've had in Fort Wayne. The cake doughnut was rich, the butterscotch sweet and almost "dark" or smokey, and the potato chip provided a delightful texture and saltiness. They offer something unique for this area and far more substantial and delicious than any chains or other local doughnut "factories."
