This was my first time here and it definitely did not disappoint. The customer service was top tier. I decided to go to brunch last minute for my mother's birthday and didn't have reservations. Even though they were fully booked, John made it happen for us. When I arrived, I accidentally gave him the wrong number of guests, but it still wasn't an issue. He accommodated us with no problem. The hostess , Ms. Deb (I believe that was her name), was an absolute sweetheart. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was amazing. They don't serve alcohol, but it's BYOB, which is always a plus. Honestly, the drinks were great even without alcohol. They also have live jazz music, which makes it perfect for a family outing or even a romantic date night. The service was fast and efficient. I truly wanted to enjoy this experience and understand that this is a newer restaurant, however several service and communication issues made the visit confusing and frustrating. Due to difficulty finding parking, we arrived late, only to be informed upon arrival that a parking lot was available. I was then escorted to the wrong table. There were repeated issues with order accuracy, requiring us to place our order multiple times. Items listed on the online menu were not available on the in-house menu. Food did not arrive at the table at the same time, resulting in the last person trying to rush and eat. The pricing structure was never clearly explained. We were initially charged $40 for scrambled eggs (which were later comped), along with separate orders of pancakes, fried fish, mac and cheese and grits. Under the assumption that these items were being ordered à la carte, which I specifically asked about prior to ordering. It was only after receiving the check that we learned Sundays are buffet-only and that food cannot be ordered in that way, or taken to-go. This information was not explained verbally and is not clearly stated on the website. We weren't offered additional servings as is typical with buffet-style dining. The fish was fried perfectly, well seasoned and not salty. The grits were well made and cheesy, though I would have preferred to know they contained cheese beforehand. The macaroni and cheese missed the mark for me due to its texture. It's admirable that the restaurant supports employment for young staff members...however, the need for stronger training and customer service standards was apparent. More frequent table check-ins and drink refills would greatly improve the experience, particularly since made-to-order food results in longer wait times. Clear explanations of the menu, service style, pricing and available parking are essential and currently missing, both in person and online. This will eliminate a lot of confusion for those who are visiting for the first time. Wish there was a live Jazz band when we attended would have made more sense for the pricing as well. There is an additional fee for using a card upon check out. No coffee or hot tea options. BYOB I hope management takes this feedback into consideration. Starting a new restaurant is not easy and with clearer communication and stronger staff training, the overall guest experience could be greatly improved. The atmosphere was wonderful, staff excellent, live music (on point), and the food was truly great. The strings well seasoned and had smoked turkey a bit salty but still good. Everything was delicioussssssss, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly done. Every bite was one of those "wow, this is good" moments. You can really tell care goes into the food. What truly made the experience though was the exceptional staff. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without feeling rushed or overbearing. I was underwhelmed with the food here. The wait for a table took quite some time, although we made a reservation and the room was half empty. We asked for drinks with alcohol and was told it's BYOB. That was the first time we'd heard that. It would've been nice to have mentioned that on the website or when we called. The food choices were extremely limited. For vegetables that day it was only macaroni and cheese or green beans. I didn't want either one. The jazz ensemble had flashing lights that nearly sparked a severe headache and made me dizzy. My 1st time at Tindley Tea Cafe and I will definitely be back with friends and family! I was greeted immediately upon entrance and was seated. I informed them that I was not able to make a reservation and they were very understanding. I noticed that it was a live jazz brunch and was a little disappointed that there was not any live music during my visit but the music that was playing was really good. I ordered the cherry blossom fizz mocktail and the presentation was super cute and it was delicious. Sunday brunch is all you can eat for $30 per person. I ordered the salmon + 3 sides entree and a side of chicken / fish. I was so full I could not order anything else! The fried fish was my favorite - fried and seasoned perfectly ! We did not enjoy our time here. We had a1:30 reservation that we were on time for but did not get sat until ~2PM because the manager, although friendly, was moving far too slowly and talking too much with other customers (even offering them a discount right in front of us). The service was very polite and proper, however, the food came out pretty slowly and was cold or room temperature at best, and the drinks (non-alcoholic) came out last. I appreciate the menu and the kindness of the staff but it just isn't somewhere I can recommend. read more

It is simply the cost that is the problem. First time I went here, I got 2 eggs, grits, scrapple, and toast. My standard order at every diner I go to, I have not paid for than $12/$13 for this ANYWHERE I've been. But here? $23!? TAKEOUT. For a place that doesn't even have a kitchen. Just folding tables with cooktops. Brunch on Sunday is wildly overpriced, I mean, the food isn't bad, it's not terrible, but the execution is awful. Today: I just paid $5 for their chicken basket, came with Exaclty 4 small, definitely not fresh wings. And mostly fries. Just NOT what you would call a chicken "basket", it's a side of chicken with a pile of fries. The staff is polite and lovely, and I really appreciate what they are trying to do, but for real? If you don't have a kitchen, serving ins styrofoam dishes, you should not be charging NEARLY as much. We live around the corner, will never be going back. read more
