In all my years of reviewing and traveling the globe this is the first time I have felt…read morediscriminated against. Date of Incident: Friday, Aug 1, 2025 around 12 pm. Here's what happened...... I walk in looking for a specific Cigar. The store clerk helping one male customer. So really it's just the three of us now in this tiny store. The clerk sees me and shoots me a dirty look. No problem. Maybe his dog is sick or something.... I don't know. I wait 5 min, 10 min, 15 min. No Hello. No I'll be right with you. Nothing. Not a single gesture of acknowledgement....of not only a customer but another human being that just happens to walk into your establishment. Bizarre. Going on 20 min now. I started to feel very uneasy and uncomfortable, as I was now being overtly ignored, and me being the Alpha-A type personality that I am....I wasn't just going leave and have someone ignore me like that. So.....I turned to the clerk who literally pretended I was a fly on the wall, and said...."If I could please get some service, I'm in a bit of a rush." He then with a pissed off reluctant look came my way. Even when he attended to me I felt this hostile energy from him I could not understand, and certainly was unfamiliar with, as I had never experienced anything like that. Ever. What was interesting was that the other customer felt bad for me, and apologized to me. It turned out I just had a question about a product and had to wait 20 min to ask it from a store clerk who pretended I was not there. Upon leaving the store there was only one thing that I was unsure of. Was it the fact that I was a Female or a person of colour that my business was not welcome?

Kinda pricey but what do you expect of Cubans and great service. Would visit again them againread more

The food is always good here but the menu is mostly standard, so practice makes perfect. Cocktail…read moreis excellent at multiple occasions. Service is good, sometimes exceptional. Ambience is a classic fancy restaurants. Great for dates but have multiple large tables for family as well. Good reason that is a default in Vancouver. Food highlights: Seafood linguine: love the pasta, great texture and seafood are cooked right. Would be nice include more fancier seafood but that might be asking for too much Sablefish: fish cooked perfectly and the sauce at the texture and seasoning for the fish. The fish might be seasoned or brined too much for me but still good. Dessert platter: definitely get one and save some room for. Always a good time with that Dangerous Wager - nice, smooth and strong Cornbread: it is good... but yes... over priced... well nature of eating out... ;)

Unfortunately, the tiramisu was very disappointing. It was mostly cream with very little actual tiramisu. The Earl Grey/floral cream completely overpowered the dish, and the balance was completely off. It ended up tasting more like a bowl of perfumey cream than tiramisu. The bigger issue was the service. Our waitress with red hair came across as condescending and dismissive toward us, which was especially frustrating in a public-facing hospitality role. What made it more uncomfortable was that she seemed noticeably warmer and friendlier with other guests, so the difference in treatment felt obvious. I can't say for certain what the reason was, but the inconsistency left a bad impression and made the experience feel unwelcoming.

This year, my "26 in 26" goal is to visit new-to-me local businesses (or re-visit ones I haven't…read morebeen to in awhile). Judging from the fact my og review of Overflow's Lynden location is almost 10 years old (!), I'd say it's more than time for a refresh. A lot has changed since my 2016 declaration that "beer and Lynden" are not often two words you associate with each other. Lynden now has a few hoppy outposts, including a second Overflow location on the west side. Guess I'll add that one to my list, too! This particular Sunday, we were looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a quiet beer and play a game of cribbage. I was excited to see Overflow was open (back in "the day" most Lynden businesses were closed on Sundays). We grabbed a couple of pints (just $5 ea!) and sat down for our game. The service was friendly, the place was uncrowded, and it was hard not to order a second pint before the long drive home to the Ham. Overflow, congrats on 10 years in Lynden! It's great to see you're still thriving, still serving up some great beer choices, and still supporting clean water initiatives. Cheers!
