Living in the area, I've passed by this cafe dozens of times and thought it looked kind of interesting and always had a crowd inside. Today a friend and I ventured out For breakfast and I suggested we try the Tin Can café. The ambience has all of the Cozy kitschy aesthetic that is missing from most fast food chain restaurants. There aren't a lot of tables but we grabbed a communal table next to an older couple that were enjoying their breakfast. They have quite a few "skillet" dishes and I decided to try one that had sour cream and salsa. The dish was topped with two eggs which were cooked beautifully and underneath were cheese chop meat onions Green peppers and potatoes. The salsa was straight out of a jar and didn't have much taste and the skillet dish was tasty until I got halfway through and realized it was sitting in a puddle of grease. I was looking forward to some crispy potatoes but in fact they two were soggy because they were sitting in the grease. The coffee was passable and at least had half-and-half available on the table. My friend ordered eggs and Italian sausage with fried potatoes. Upon taking his first bite of sausage he immediately said they tasted greasy. I tasted a piece of the sausage and agreed that chopping the sausage into pieces and heating it up on a grill not only made them greasy but dried out the meat. His potatoes were also limp and greasy and didn't have much crispness to them. The gal serving us was very sweet and accommodating and offered great service. The tin can is very small, but the food is amazing! When we got there they told us it would be a 15-20 minute wait, but it ended up only being 10. We heard great reviews about this place and it did NOT hold up to that rating. 1) I was charged an extra ~$1.50 for a "salad" that was literally just chopped up iceburg lettuce and a couple cucumber slices. 2) The waitress gave herself a 100% tip when that is not what I wrote down. Will be calling today to see if they will correct the issue. Regardless, this was a sub par experience with sub par food, I was overcharged and they basically stole money from me. This is a local eatery nearby close to the house. Decided to try it one day and was impressed enough to try it again 3 more times. Got the Spanish scramble (B-), thought the hamburger was a little unseasoned but overall was good. Eggs over medium were cooked perfectly. The biscuits and gravy are good and their homefries are top notch. The ham steak is huge and delicious. The blueberry pancakes have huge blueberries in them and my favorite so far is the Country Skillet. Portion sizes were definitely large (thats a good thing for this family). Will be back. I just don't know how they can make simple foods so tasty. Don't be discouraged by the look of the restaurant. It really looks just like a tin can. But the foods are incredibly tasty. I ordered french toast with sausage links. Their portion was very big but I still finished every single bite because I couldn't put my fork down. I had been to three other restaurants for french toasts since I ate at Tin Can Cafe but nothing tasted quite right anymore. When I visit Tampa, I will eat there again for sure. read more

The location is small and old but clean which is a good sign that the back is also clean. We ordered skillets as we are from the Midwest and have yet to see them on any menu since moving here. The staff was very friendly, which I added another star for. The menu was basic brunch, nothing that stood out. I got the three cheese omelet and my bf got the steak and eggs skillet. He loved the skillet. My omelet was average, got some toast and fries on the side. Portion size was huge, price was decent. Like I said, it's basic and simple place. Great place- thanks to yelpers for the recommendation. Simple, no frills, breakfast and lunch spot. The server was so nice and genuinely attentive and pleasant. The prices are great and the food quality excellent, which explains why it gets full. I just had a scrambled egg dish and was given a choice of home fries, hash browns etc. when I ordered the home fries which the server mentioned and had not seen on the menu, he told me they took a little longer. He stopped by again to refill my drink and said the home fries were almost ready. I was embarrassed when they came out and took up an entire second plate! They were delicious, as were the eggs nicely prepared. More embarrassing was the cost of less than $5. I wish I remembered the server's name because he was great! Highly recommend. read more
