They told us that an auxiliary fan was broken, and "repaired it" for nearly $400. Less than an hour after their "repair", our car broke down in traffic and smoke started pouring from the hood without warning. We feared the worst. We called Mike for an estimate, and he came and looked over our Jeep the same day. He took excellent care of us, was honest, and explained his hypothesis of what was wrong with the car. HIs rates were fair and he was just overall wonderful to work with. 2 hours after he arrived to our complex (after having our car towed home), our jeep is up and running better than ever. And for very little compared to what Pep Boys tried to sell us. He even showed us that the "broken" fan, in fact worked, and gave us a year's guarantee on his labor. Here are 6 things you should know about Derrick's Auto Clinic: 1.) This is a one-man operation based out of a single stall in a light-industrial space off from Cleveland avenue. Having been in his shop, Derrick seems to be set up to perform most repairs. However, with limited space he may not be able to store your car before or after repairs are performed. 2.) He also offers mobile service. I had him out to look at my car first before bringing it in after it was determined that he would need to get it on a lift. The cost for this mobile service call was pretty minimal (around $30). 3.) He was very responsive in answering my calls and emails. As a one-man operation all calls go directly to him. 4.) All forms of payment are welcome but I get the impression many transactions are cash-based. 5.) His previous business was North Linden Motors. I cannot seem to find any negative (or positive) reviews. I view him to be a trustworthy mechanic. 6.) He was very flexible about doing repairs with parts that I provided. This made life somewhat easier, and likely cheaper. So, as of now a definite 5-star experience. Given the age of my car I am sure I will be going back.

I called last Friday after having talked to different businesses about getting my tire rim repaired or replaced. None of them gave me any real satisfactory information so the search continued until I got to Dave's. I believe it was Kevin that I spoke with (I'm sorry, the name escapes me). He was very informative and quite pleasant on the phone, giving me quotes and guarantee information on their service and products. Saturday, I drove up to get the rim repaired, only to find that they were/are "closed on Saturdays until further notice". I went back on Monday and met with him to review my rim's condition. He took a look and gave me a very clear explanation and what I should expect. He even suggested that I could expedite matters by taking it directly to their service center for repair. I told him that I was comfortable leaving it with him and could wait a few days. I left the tire with him feeling good about things. It was early Tuesday when he called to let me know that the repair was complete (much sooner than I expected). I drove back and picked it up, extremely pleased with their timeliness. My added bonus came when he reviewed the condition of the damaged tire with me to show me exactly why it was unsafe for use. He had conducted a search to get me pricing on tires, even though I told him I was getting it replaced at no charge by the company responsible for the bad tire. I did indicate that I will be using him in the future... ...and so should you. But when/if you do, as always, be sure to tell 'em that "Kenny sent ya"!
