We came to 400 Stimmell Road to pick up a towed vehicle. Stephanie of TowPro helped us to process the pick up. She went to great lengths (and I mean great lengths) to help us get our vehicle. Even the tow truck driver took us to examine the vehicle twice (in the back lot) making sure it was drive-able. He also explained to me the prevalence of stolen cars and the costs associated with picking up the vehicle. I was on the phone with one of the workers and she was yelling at me and lied to me about something, because the next person I talked to told me exactly what I needed to know. Im not sure what the lady's problem was but thats not how you should talk to people who are trying to figure out whats going on. When you step into a customer service job you should be ready to answer questions and if you cant just pass them to someone who can help. There is no reason for them to be screaming at me telling me to do something I physically can't do. This place has to be operating outside the bounds of the law. Unbelievable. Had a medical emergency behind the wheel and ended up in a grassy part of the road. The car was impounded after being taken to the ER. It was at this lot LESS than 24 hours but the nasty lady working said it was 2 days worth of lot charges because they got it Noon Sunday and we recovered it 11a Monday. $300 for 23 hours on the lot. Then she tried to get me to sign my title over to waive the tow fees and got even nastier when I refused seeing as how my car was not damaged at all, save for a broken window. God awful service and highway robbery fees to boot. Columbus PD needs to do better and NOT send cars to this place. read more

HOW in the hell are they A+ through BBB?? They were EXTREMELY rude. They did not respect the situation, they were talking over me and not allowing me to share my concerns. They said I needed to "read better" and "not trust everything on the internet" from their own website. They are absolutely holding onto cars to rack up money for the space in their lot. They claimed not to have my phone number for more timely communication despite me filling it out on the form when my car was towed. They also stated that the website connected to their site wasn't right in regards to the vehicle release form online, not sure where that information went or why there was no follow up from that. They provided different information during different calls about who to list and what to say on the form, which was also different than the information provided to my insurance adjuster. Adjuster also felt they were taking advantage of the situation to keep the car. They do not know the meaning of customer service or how to speak with respect to people going through a crisis that lead to their car being towed in the first place. They do not know how to take ownership of their poor organization and communication, don't know how to deescalate a stressful situation (truely, be trained, because this is your customer base- their cars are totaled and towed, be real), or if they have been taught they really do not care to try. Write down who you talk to and when, because they will talk around you as if you should know this information. I wouldn't even someone I hate to have to go through this and deal with their rude incompetence. read more

My girlfriend was in an accident, they advised her to take her car to the Impound lot and we could come the next day to pick up belongings. They stole everything of value out of her car including money, tools ext. that I had left in there. Not to mention they make it hell for you to get your vehicle out of their lot. We had a van towed to this "business" and they stated that we abandoned our vehicle and had no communication with them (we have phone records..) then requested a title from the state as the insurance company was working with them to have the van towed. My first time at this towing yard. Excellent customer service!! Eric was working the office/front window. Nice, funny guy. Moved us through fast and efficient. My old car was stolen and abandoned on the west side freeway. Highway patrol had it towed here, to Pro-Tow. If you relinquish ownership to Pro-Tow, they wave the cost of transporting and storing your car. Since mine was completely torn up, inside and outside, and not drivable, I transformed ownership to Pro-Tow. Eric took us out to the car, so we could get anything that was left inside. We came away not having to pay anything. In and out in under 15 minutes. read more

My vehicle was towed from my apartment complex this morning. When I called to ask what I needed to get my vehicle back I was told a valid driver's license and proof of ownership. Upon arrival I seen a sign that said impounds cash only- which the lady NEVER told me over the phone the two times I called. When I asked the lady about it she said she's not sure who I talked to ( from what I seen she was the only female on the premises, and the only one in the office) but if it was me I would have told you. The lot is located a ways behind a baseball park and can be a tad confusing, and inconvenient when you are having to make that trip two times. In addition to that once I paid, I had to wait with a few other customers for someone to take us to out car, which I understood okay cool. However, after one customer was helped the two of us where just sitting there in the heat just waiting. After seeing multiple tow trucks leave and no one coming to help us I went to the window. No one came to the window to help but an employee miraculously appeared and we were both out of there in less than five minute. Overall I hope I never have to deal with a tow company again, but specifically this one. read more

I would have given no stars if that was possible. There is nothing Professional about Pro Tow. The staff is extremely unprofessional. They charge for fees not listed on the form given at time of tow, and then state they have to charge these fees by law. Sounds fishy to me. The secretary or receptionist had a wrist band on that clearly said the F**K word on it. When given my total, I went to pay in cash, and was told they don't have any change. What business that takes cash doesn't have change!!! I was told over the phone I would be able to get my stuff out of my car. I told her I have allot of stuff in my car. I was told, no problem. But it was a problem. They wouldn't let me drive up to the car. They had it 100 feet from the gate and it was very muddy. I had to walk thru the mud to my car and carry everything back to the car. They let the rain destroy most of the contents. They would not let us bring our other into the lot to remove our stuff from the car and would only let 2 of us back at a time. Pro Tow is now located at 1669 Harmon Ave. Pro Tow is passing counterfeit money!! I paid 150.50 to get my son-in-law's car released from Pro Tow's lot. I gave the guy who cashed us out 160.50 and I received a $10 bill in change. I gave the $10 to my son-in-law so he could put gas in his car. About 20 minutes later, I get a phone call from the son-in-law who was at the gas station.... the $10 bill was counterfeit. I called Pro Tow to tell them that they gave me a counterfeit $10 bill. The guy who answered the phone said, "well it came out of our cash drawer, so someone had to give it to us." Yeah, no offer to exchange it, no apology, no nothing. I'm out $10. read more

Lowest of the low here. My car got towed from the spot that I've been parking in for months right by my apartment. They broke 4 laws according to the Ohio Revised Code and towed my car for practically no reason with other cars surrounding mine that they said were towed when they obviously weren't because they were sitting right by mine long after mine was towed. They told me that a sign said that I can't park there but no such sign exists, I should know, I live right there and I looked around for it after I got my car back. That is one law broken. They charged me a storage fee which is against the law before 5 business days of storing my car. Legally, they were supposed to give me a letter explaining what to do if I was wrongfully towed (which I was) but that was never given to me so another strike against the law. They are also 2 miles from the nearest COTA bus station, also against the law to not be within a reasonable distance from public transportation, so if your car was towed there, you can't use public transportation to get there. I don't have much money and I had to sacrifice feeding myself to get my car because they towed it illegally. Horrid people, horrid business. Never go here. read more

The ethicality and legality of this company are highly suspect. It is the practice of Pro-Tow Inc to send drivers through privately owned residential parking lots and tow vehicles with expired license plates. Once towed, you must pay greater than $100 ($90 being the state maximum for the tow itself, before tax) and come to them with an up to date plate/sticker. Additionally, they charge an accumulative storage fee daily, making a towing that takes place over the weekend $160 after taxes. The apartment complex did not report the vehicle. The legality of this is suspect given that it is not against the law to own a vehicle with an expired license plate, it is illegal to drive such. If a car is parked in a residential parking lot, it would seem that there would be no evidence of a violation. What is particularly interesting to me is that being from Tennessee, our stickers only have the year displayed on them. So either the driver took the time to run the out of state license plate, or he towed it without bothering to investigate. I include this detail only to suggest the level of effort it would take the driver to tow someone for an expired tag. Legality aside, the ethicality of taking someone's vehicle from their home because of an expired license plate and demanding payment for its return deserves to be examined. The state maximum for towing companies is $90 per tow and $12 per day for storage fee up to the amount of $150 (before tax). Which if, incidentally, you make minimum wage in Ohio to date, that equates to 20.38 hours of work before taxes. Perhaps I'm an idealist, but it concerns me that Pro-Tow not only practices this predatory parking-lot-cruising 12 miles from their lot, but that they choose to charge their victims the maximum amount allowed by law per tow. I cannot help but view this as a corporate decision to inflict as much financial punishment on the public as they are legally allowed to get away with and I have no reason to suspect that were the law not in place they would charge at minimum the price of the automobile for reclamation. And this type of behavior ought to bear heavy on any individuals who work for such a company. A company that uses the simple mistakes of others to bleed them dry as much as legally possible. I say all this with the absolute understanding that I made a mistake by not renewing my plate in a timely manner. In perfect honesty, I simply forgot to do it. And while I would have been frustrated to be pulled over by a police officer, I would have accepted that it is their job to enforce the law. However, that is in contrast to the opportunistic behavior of a towing company unelectedely enforcing law by way of crawling around parking lots. When my wife awoke in the late afternoon, ready to go off to work, she found her car to be missing from our parking lot. My first assumption was that the car was stolen. A few days later, I remain convinced that not only was our car stolen, but we were extorted for payment in order to have it handed back over to us. The legality of that is, in my mind, not nearly as important as the lack of decency and understanding that causes someone to act in the cruel and exploitative nature of Pro-Tow. It is my opinion that a company who behaves in a predatory and coercive manner ought to be avoided when one has the option to choose a towing service. read more

My car was towed Thursday by the most unprofessional tow truck driver i had ever met for starters he did not ask me for the key like every tow truck driver does so they can put it in neutral so the transmission does not get messed up no my car was on jack stands and the tire was underneath it he proceeded to drag my car wher the oil pan scraping the ground my front end u heard popping and cracking due to me having to drop it the night before my router was dragging front bumper etc. This man has caused me so much damage to my only means of transportation he was extremely rude my wife told him the parking break was on due to the back tires locked in place he replied no it cuz of this pointed to my rack n pinion catching the lift gate I have 5 kids and lost my job due to my car being towed and I have to be out of the house I live in by Jan 1 the officer said that it was up to him if he would put my car in my back yard he looked at the cop like really i kno u didn't offer me to do that after me begging and pleading with the man not to take my only means of transportation that I would louse my job and I have to be out of my house by the 1st he could care less my wife has the hole thing recorded and pic. Not only do these guys charge you a ridiculous price for a tow ... but James also made sure to be passive aggressive with me when I told him that his prices were way too high over $200 to tow my car 15 minutes away. He decided he wanted to break down everything that he pays money for which supposedly explains why his prices are so astronomical compared to the competition which is a normal price of $70 flat fee and five dollars per mile. Which you can Google and look that up anywhere that is the normal going rate. He claims that because he hast to pay his insurance and employees etc. that's why the prices are so high... I hate to tell him but I think everybody has to do that and they still don't price gouge people. Then he decided he wanted to be so passive aggressive as to remind me how to spell tow , I was using talk text and instead of the proper spelling of tow it spelled out toe .... so apparently he got so butt hurt by The fact I called him out on his ridiculous pricing that he needed to "put me on my place" and correct my spelling LOL I would not advise this company to my worst enemy. Awful! My car got totalled and my husband had to use this company because it was next on the Columbus Police "list". The driver was rude and charged $125 instead of the $90. They charged $45 to sweep the street (my husband could have done it! ) Thetotal for a 2 mile tow to our drivway was $189.20! Then the driver didn't put it as far back as requested. Were it possible I would give this company less than 1 star on the rating. I completely agree with Dan K. His review is 100% accurate and right on target. Somehow this company manages to get away with a legal form of theft. Legality aside though, the practice of stealing cars that are parked legally with valid plates and registration stickers and then forcing their owners to pay to get them back when they have done nothing wrong to warrant the tow in the first place, is highly unethical! Yesterday, 12/03/13, I left my apartment near Lincoln Village to go to the Post Office and ship a Christmas gift to a friend overseas. When I got to my parking lot my car was GONE!! I have an old beat up rusted P.O.S. Nissan but it is all mine. It runs just fine for being a 1994 car. It is not derelict or abandoned. The tires are inflated. My plates are valid & legal. My registration sticker is up to date, just put a new one on at the end of September! I was parked in a standard parking place, unmarked, unreserved, NOT handicapped, right in front of the building I live in. I did nothing wrong, except live here, and they stole my car and held it for ransom essentially! Side note here: I am disabled. I am currently fighting a court battle to win SSDI payments. While my husband is at work, this rusted out old Nissan is my ONLY means of transportation to my doctor appointments, therapy sessions, etc. I live 2 miles from a hospital, and unless I'm dying, I can drive myself there faster than an ambulance can get to me, and without the fee! However, I cannot walk the 2 miles. I cannot walk and stand at a bus stop. I rely on having a car at my disposal, should I need to use it. Otherwise, I'm a housebound, disabled, housewife. I only go out when necessary, or on the rare day when I feel well enough and able to go out with my husband. This company, Pro-Tow, is nothing but a heartless predator. I begged to have my car back, I offered to pay for a return tow, and they flat out REFUSED. I get treated like a criminal because I don't drive my car that often, thus don't move it that often. But they are the ones stealing, demanding ransoms, and victimizing innocent people. read more

We were driving across country in a rented moving truck, towing our car on a trailer (not a two-wheel dolly), and the trailer blew a tire and the tow bar bent. The trailer had to be replaced so we could get back on the road. The rental company contracted with Pro-Tow to bring us a new trailer. Chuck, who seems to be a manager or owner, came in on his day off to help us; I don't know what their staffing situation is, but I thought that was cool. They did take longer to arrive than we would have liked, but I think that is the rental company's fault, not Pro-Tow. Chuck and his coworker (didn't catch his name) were extremely helpful and friendly. They told us that the trailer that was originally given to us was a piece of junk and we are lucky there was not more damage when the tire blew. They helped us with unloading and loading the car, and moving the truck in the parking lot since we are not experienced truck drivers. I would use Pro-Tow again and would definitely recommend them. Considering this was a job that we were not paying for, they truly went above and beyond to help us when they did not have to do anything but deliver the trailer. read more

They came out to the house to do service work on my car under an AAA referral, then refused to take a check for the work. Said it had to be cash or credit card. When I went to pay by credit card they tried to apply an exorbitant fee for a credit check. As soon as I called AAA they said they would waive the fee. Apparently their business model is to generously enhance the bottom line by charging an absurd fee for the credit check. And yes, you guessed it....they made no mention of the credit check fee until AFTER the work was completed. When I talked to their management the next day, it was explained to me that many (most?) of their customers are unsavory and try to rip them off, so they have to respond in kind. Great business model. Avoid this outfit like the plague. read more
