I've been talking about wanting a new bike so I can start to ride some distance for several years…read morenow. A friend of mine has started riding century rides and other craziness, so I thought I would ask for his advice on what to get. Since he lives up north, he got his bike from Buck's about 3 years ago, so while visiting, we decided to head up and take a look. I kind of knew what I was looking for because I have a friend who does exactly what I'm wanting to do. I knew I was looking for an entry-level carbon road bike, but I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. I had no clue what size, so actually being about to touch and get on the bikes was definitely something I needed to do, and Buck's was the place to do it. I arrived on a Saturday about 40 minutes before closing. There were a number of other people in the store, so we started walking around and looking at the frames. We looked for about 20 minutes, got bikes off the racks, got on them, and had walked into another area of the store before anyone even acknowledged we were there. Granted, they were busy and it was almost closing time, but I would have liked some form of acknowledgement, especially as we started pulling bikes off the racks. By the time someone came up to us, I had pretty much made my mind up on what I wanted and that I would do some research on the bike before I purchased it. Had someone come up early on and spent some time with me, I might have walked out with a new bike yesterday. My friend needed a new tube for his bike, and since they were right next to the cashier, she was extremely helpful. The store is well laid out with a great selection - almost overwhelming to someone like me who really thought there was only one kind of bike until recently. In all fairness, I'll be back here because it's a local business, they have a great selection, and I've heard you can wheel and deal on older model stuff. I'm also certain that they were busier than normal because it was one of the first nice days out and everyone else was shopping for a bike, it was Saturday, and it was almost closing time. Just expect a bit of a wait if you come in when they're busy.

I waited almost 5 minutes for a staff member to approach me while I waited in the showroom. And they tried to talk me into buying a much more expensive electric bike when I specifically said I didn't want an ebike. Crummy customer service and bad business practices.

Amazing friendly customer service and a totally different experience at Bike Stop Cycling compared…read moreto another local bike shop. I took a vintage road bike into Bike Stop Cycling last week because I was having problems with the chain skipping. Customer service was amazing! The young man that helped me immediately put the bike up on the rack and looked at for me. They told me it would be about a week and I fully prepared not to hear back from them for a whole week. They called me just a few days later to let me know that the freewheel was actually worn and needed to be replaced and told me how much it would cost for a new one, $30, so I told them to go ahead with the work and a couple of hours later they called me back saying the bike was ready to be picked up. Never expected such fast work like this. When I went back to pick the bike up someone who may have been the owner had held the door open for me as I was leaving and I started chatting with him about the bike and how I had been trying to figure out the maker of the frame since the bike had been repainted by someone and had all the headbadge and stickers removed from it. It had some high end parts on it, yet it was a mystery as to what kind of frame it was. I had only paid $35 for it so I was intrigued as to what kind of frame it was. The man that helped me spent a couple of minutes explaining to me what he thought it might be, possibly a Miyata and why and explained that it was a pretty good find for $35. He was genuinely interested in talking for a few minutes and was so friendly. I would like to also say that I was simply blown away at how little they charged me for labor to install a new freewheel. They told me the freewheel was $30 but when I saw the receipt they literally only charged me $5.00 for labor and then sales tax. I know it takes more than a couple of minutes to do that kind of work and never expected to be charged so little for labor costs. They basically only charged me for the part and almost nothing for their time. I would have gladly paid more and fully expected the bill to be higher. I just started working on another vintage bike I found and I'll be going back to them for help and to have some work done on the newest bike I found because they are so friendly and helpful and really know what it means to give good customer service with such a friendly attitude.
