I've never touched a bow in my life but I was totally comfortable with everything as it was taught and presented. We got to shoot so much during the class and we also got to stay after class as long as we wanted until the range closed to keep shooting. I loved it. Fyi: The Intro class was only $20 & it's only $15 for open range including renting a bow. And you can stay as long as you want. The people are so friendly, welcoming, and inclusive. I love that there are so many women involved. Apparently women are badass archers! I've been back to shoot now at the open range and there seem to be no egos; there's a great supportive vibe. Everyone just has fun while focusing on honing their skill at this really addictive sport. The archery shop has a good selection, lots of bows, arrows, targets, all kinds of stuff. I asked about getting set up with a new bow and what I like is that they were very honest about the cost of getting started, they didn't try to up sell me or give me the hard sell like so many places would've have since I'm 1) obviously super eager & 2) relatively clueless about archery. The shop is set in a tricky to find place the first time, for me at least. It's set behind a storage unit place. There's a long driveway but you just go past the storages/garages, there is at least one sign (a burma shave/garage sale style sign) that says Archery with an arrow towards the shop. And the shop is easy to see on the left once you drive by the storages & other businesses. Parking is easy. Tl;dr: I feel safe and welcome at BowDoc. :o)

We ended up at the store to have our bows properly fitted (our local big sportsman's store setup turned out to be extremely sub-par), and our experience there was the same - instructive, informative, and patient with all our newbie questions, despite a very low total to our transaction and bows purchased elsewhere. Our two subsequent visits have been the same, and over the hours we have spent in the store and on their range, we've seen all the other customers' experience similarly. On those visits, we purchased upgrades to the elements of our starter bows, but these were both initiated by us asking about them - they've never made a suggestion that would cost us more money for the upsell (other than the obvious and otherwise-inevitable upgrade to a Mathews bow in the future - haha). There are several archery stores which are closer to us, and I'm sure most of them are fine, but Scott, Rich, Brandon and the rest of the staff have all been fantastic to work with. We'll keep going back here, thanks!

They know what they are doing and what's more is they help you when you need it. We reserved our time, rented our gear and we were good to go for the hour. It was something I dabbled with, casually taking a few lessons on a recurve, but not really applying myself to the craft. I decided to visit my local archery store, Top Shot, to take a few more steps in that direction. I was greeted by Dana, who was wonderful, and knowledgeable about helping a beginner like me get started in the intricate world of bows and equipment. She helped me decide on a good quality, beginner compound bow (Elite Ember), then she helped me get my new bow ready for practice by determining the best draw length, pull weight, and arrows for target shooting. She also referred me to a great resource for lessons and open range practice. I'm definitely recommending Top Shot for great customer service and then selection of equipment.

It reminds me of the fun I used to have taking archery at camp when I was a kid in the summer. They provide great equipment if you don't have any, so even if you are just curious about the sport, you can just try it out. After a few sessions, we were hooked! Now with COVID, they have implemented new procedures and cleaning processes for equipment to ensure safety. I highly recommend trying this out and seeing if you get hooked like me!
