I am not going to lie, I am a bit biased for this review. But I will try my best to stay neutral. When there are those days when I am looking for something to fight that craving. When I have a moment I really want fried fish and fries. When I have those moments I want a large combination fried rice. There is one place in mind when I do not want to drive out to Chinatown. The answer will always be Timmy Chan's. This has been my neighborhood spot and I would not think any different about it. But one thing I like that has changed is the inside of the store. The change for the dining/lobby area is really nice. I know COVID had it closed for safety reasons. But the small upgrades made it nicer. It will forever be a staple of the city for Chinese takeout. We called this location & found that they are still not open for dine in seating. So we placed an order for pick up. They have a very small notice on the door that says you have to go thru the drive thru for all pick ups. We maneuvered thru the parking lot to get to the drive thru window. The people were friendly & was fast picking up & paying for the food. Picked up the food & headed home. It wasn't as delicious as last time. The food wasn't bad....just very average tasting. Egg rolls were very mediocre. Crab puffs & General Cho was ok. The shrimp was ok. They may be short staffed at this time? We'll stay away for awhile and then try again at a later date. read more

I'm not the type to give reviews but this place is horrible. Waited in a drive thru like for well over 25 minutes just to be super disappointed. I got the general chicken and rice and it was without a doubt the worst food I've ever had. The rice looked and tasted days old, and I couldn't even chew through a piece of chicken. They gave me day old rice! I got a six piece with shrimp fried rice and as I opened it, it smelled funny but I thought I was trippin. Once I moved all the chicken and started mixing the rice it was slimy. I went to eat a shrimp and it just mushed in my mouth, no crunch, and the most awful taste ever. If you're going to Timmy Chan's, know in advance that the only thing TRULY worth getting is the 6 piece wings and rice. It's their calling card and they do it well, the portion is massive, 6 wings and half a take out tray of rice will fill you up QUICK. The prices are good for everything here, don't expect a five star restaurant when you show up. Timmy Chan's hasn't been "S-t-a®bucked", so don't expect to come into a hipster joint. A filthier restaurant is hard to find, the restaurant had a stench about it - questioning whether we really wanted to eat there. The food was mediocre but plentiful for the price. The counter help was somewhat nonchalant and clueless as to the product. To top things off I went to the restroom, I told my wife to leave everything and we left. Truly the health department should pay a visit. I really can't imagine that the Houston Health Department awarded them a 92 out of 100 as posted on YELP! Best Timmy chan ever , I order a beef with broccoli with fried rice before going on a trip to San Antonio to go and my mom my two sister and me all ate thought the 3 hour trip and yet still we ate some again at night and it still wasn't done , all for 13 dollars . Sometimes you have to take it back, way back into the hood. I do this so often and always end up at Timmy Chan's because although a bit dangerous, I know I will always find great tasting food. My go to order is always the chicken wings and fried rice. In fact I don't think I have tried anything else here. The chicken wings are some of the best I have tasted as they are breaded and fried to perfection. The fried rice is like no other and goes really well with the chicken. I will always enjoy some Timmy Chan's. It may not be a hot spot or popular dining place and I really don't mind that it has not made it to any list of top restaurants in Houston. After an eight car wait in the drive thru and spending almost $17 for the order, my appetite was cut short after finding a hair in my eggroll. $17 straight to the trash. Horrible experience I ordered general Tso wings and when I gave the first bite I felt as if I had a wet dog next to me and the taste to my food was horrible and will most definitely will not be coming back make sure that your food is freshly made because the supposedly chicken they gave me was very old. I Don't recommend this place at all!! Absolutely delicious! Got 4 wings and a plate of fries with a biscuit for $5! Chicken was well seasoned!!! Also got a side of fried rice for $2.. It was ok but tastes better with siracha sauce.
