Well... Hate to give a bad review because I do understand the difficulty in running a restaurant however this place just fails on so many levels and the food wasn't even one of them! Was kind of excited to try this place because food pics looked great and most reviews were good... However, let me detail my experience. Arrived at approximately 10:45 am for breakfast... Was seated promptly in a comfortable booth... The first thing you notice is the noise level. Place had a couple of large groups so I get that can make a difference but really an investment in some baffles or other sound diffusion would go a long way. Coffee arrived quickly and we placed our orders... Which DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 11:25... I do not understand how some eggs and pancakes can take 40 minutes to make it to the table. Portion size was good but everything was bland. Potatoes overcooked and had an odd taste... Bacon was burnt... Oh and I forgot to mention the coffee... I think they must have just waved a coffee been over some warm water because it was basically tasteless. Try this place if you must but we will definitely not be returning.

Was in the area for a Sunday drive and found this place after turning to yelp for a breaky suggestion. We were told to find our own seat right away- 1/2 star, by a very unhappy server and were brought not so great coffee right away. Order was taken pretty quick by earlier mentioned unhappy server then things started going downhill pretty quick. As I'm writing this review, it's been over 1/2 an hour since we ordered. The coffee lady has been by only once and there's no one around to ask about the status of our order. Food finally came and they got my order wrong so back it went. *sigh* It quickly came back corrected and looked pretty good however my now hangry mood would not allow me to fully enjoy my breaky. Portions were generous and food was ok...I'll give 1 star for that. Soooo, 1 1/2 total stars, I would not recommend and will not be returning.

Grand slam

Came here on a Sunday around 1pm and it wasn't too busy so we got seats right away. I ordered the grand slam which has 3 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pancakes and home fries. The good: The home fries were the highlight for me, they were fried, well portioned and yummy. The service was friendly and they always came to check on us and refilled our coffees regularly. The bad: I was sitting in the long booth by the windows and I guess the cushions are really worn down because when I sat down I sunk in and it was an awkward angle for me to eat when the food came. The sausage was just a tad too fatty for me and the pancakes kinda came apart when I poured syrup on them. The coffee was also a little too watered down for my taste. Overall, the portions were good and the service was good but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.

French Connection, about $13

Probably a bit more inclined to give this place a 3.5, but hey, their service was friendly so I'll classify it as a 4 :p My boyfriend said he used to always come here with his dad when he was younger, so we decided to go for brunch the other weekend. Very traditional looking diner, felt a bit like I was transported back in time haha. Very similar to Fran's Restaurant in Toronto for those of you who have been there. The place is almost divided into two stores (apparently they bought out the store next to them at some point and expanded). In my opinion, I think some of the furniture is in need of being revamped, which can be done while still maintaining the classic diner look. There are booths available for bigger groups, but we just got a regular two-seater. Started with coffee and tea (coffee is only $2 and you can get as many free refills as you'd like!). We decided to split a french connection - 3 eggs, French toast, bacon, sausage, and home fries for $13. It was plenty of food foe us to share. He also ordered a chocolate milkshake (as he claims they're the best he's ever had), which I only tried a sip or two of, but from what I could tell, was awesome! It was a pretty cool place, if you're looking for a decent breakfast (or even lunch as they have a menu for that too) thats not overly expensive, I'd pay a visit here :)

I have been anxiously waiting to review this Diner for the longest time. I now been here several times for brekkie and find the food very consistent and delicious. The home fries are deep fried and crunchy. Add some fried onions on top and BAM! Pure breakfast bliss! There is plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. I hear the diner gets really busy during prime time during the week and on weekends. I usually show up around 930 to 10 and always get my regular booth. The have the space for big groups too. The head chef Peter is a great guy. If he isn't busy take the time to talk with him. You have got to check this place out! Peace out Yelpers!!

Little wait to get seated, and served a menu but its nothing major. Order was quick, pretty filling for a big breakfast, I had few piece of peameal bacon, one egg and some home fries left. I did finish it but for a meal to stuff me is good. The decor had that 60 look because it been around that long or Atleast I think so. Run by greek family I think but all and all a good experience Thou I could barely fit in booth, bad idea. The decor is off setting but its good for the food. Add another yelp find to the list

The restaurant is giving cozy comforts diner with abut 20 people worth of seating. Join the waitlist as soon as you can because you can wait up to 2 hours for a table on a Sunday morning. After we got seated and our waiter came over and he wasn't giving the most welcoming energy, he seemed a little stand off ish which was weird but we assumed that's just how he was lol. Other than that that the service was good. We started with the biscuits. You have an option to have it with gravy or jam. We got jam and it came with a clotted cream like spread and a cinnamon apple tasting jam. The biscuits were nice and fluffy. We got an ice coffee too and it was really good. I always come for the party melt. It comes with their house salad and a scoop of their sweet potato salad. The whole plate was fantastic. We also for their turkey dinner and this was so delicious but we were so full we only had a couple bites and took the rest home. It was just as delicious as reheated leftovers.

With its red exterior, snug booth seating, and counter stools worn smooth by years of faithful custom, it wears its authenticity without affectation. The Irish breakfast is the undisputed centrepiece: a generous, unapologetically hearty spread that arrives with the sort of abundance one associates with a proper Irish kitchen. Portions are substantial and satisfying, calibrated for appetite rather than aesthetics -- and all the better for it. The menu is unpretentious, and the cooking honest. What distinguishes The George Street Diner most, however, is the quality of its hospitality. The service is warm and unhurried, characterised by a genuine attentiveness that is increasingly rare. One leaves not merely fed, but looked after -- and that distinction matters. It is the sort of neighbourhood gem one recommends without hesitation, and whose reputation travels well. I have done so on multiple occasions, and the response has been unfailingly positive. A treasured find for weekend brunch in Toronto.

The eggs were great but I couldn't eat the rest. I don't want fries for breakfast. The beans were straight out of a can, a tiny piece if mushy tomato, extremely dry soda bread, and the worse tasting mushrooms I've ever had. Husband had the same but with too salty sausage. He couldn't eat it. We both basically ate the egg with a piece of the soda bread. Service was great. Coffee cup never empty. But omg, SO pricey for a diner. Won't be back.

Sadly there was no chair for her to sit down on yet it didn't stop her from going to her regular spot for a Sunday brunch. She told me that she has been coming here for many years, even before it was called Sammy's. Has it been 30 years, she asked herself? Either way, she made it known that she is quite the regular. Very nice and friendly lady. These are the types of regulars that make the diner what it is. There is a sign in clipboard at the front, as soon as you walk in. You have to sign in as part of contact tracing in case there is an outbreak of COVID linked back to this establishment. Make sure you do not block the pathway from behind the bar, I didn't block it but a large family with several kids needed a place to stand in line and wait for a big table, because servers will get very mad at you and tell you "I NEED TO GET BY! DON'T BLOCK THE WAY!" But there is no where to stand when the lineup is 20 people deep. This is something to think about once the weather gets colder and there is a long lineup out the door. Perhaps takeout would be a better option than to be yelled at by the short haired waitress with tattoos? While I did not mind waiting and I had a book to occupy my time in the lineup and at the table before I was given the menu, I could see that this was obviously a rush time, prime time lunchtime at the diner, maybe others might be a little more impatient than me? I could watch a snail crawl for hours, patience is a virtue. The wait is very long to get seated and even longer to get food. While the food was pretty good, and the other server was very friendly, attentive and nice, I think they were short staffed that day and nothing is ever as instant as fast food. My advice would be to go here when you have the time to wait. Don't come here if you are in a rush. It's better to only come here when you have lots of time to wait.

Home style food well prepared. Lots of variety in the menu....Staff are good people too.read more
