After the owner changed the battery in my Michele watch, the watch (about a year old) stopped working about 3 days later.

disclaimer: i have a similar business myself, but have used their services as a outsource repair venue, hence this review. my late father, who started up our business in 1948, gradutated from the horological institute at bradley university, and was an excellent watch and clock repairman. after he developed a neurological disorder in the 90's, he had to stop repairing and we had to outsource our repairs to various repairmen. we used timekeepers for a few clocks, thinking they were the perfect go-to shop, closer than our downtown alternatives. they were very friendly and courteous, hence the stars, for attitude and demeanor. that being said, of the four clocks we gave them to repair, only one ever worked correctly. i took back one clock three times, to no avail. i'm not a confrontational sort, so rather than returning and becoming increasingly frustrated, i just outsourced to one of our usual repairmen to have them all re-repaired correctly. costly, but ultimately, customer satisfaction is worth it. never once was their attitude less than cordial, but i really wonder about their expertise. read more

I went in about a year ago to have a watch battery replaced. The guy was personable and after about ten minutes he'd replaced the battery. I paid him and left but within three days the watch again stopped running. I suspect he replaced by battery with a used one. I never returned. Live and learn. read more

There are not too many places like this where you can get old clocks repaired. In fact, in this age of cheaper global products, people are more reluctant to have things fixed vs. buy a new one of whatever it is that is broken. Although I did reach that modern conclusion about my old dead clock from the 1930's, I did enjoy my visit here. And my first impression was how it would make a great setting for one of those old Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock Hour episodes (except that everything is in color.) But it's the kind of place where the old guy keeps you distracted while he winds back all the clocks and the next thing you know, it's the 1940's outside. Or some stranger comes in wearing a suit, but he's the devil, trying to buy your soul! I guess I watch to many re-runs. But they are helpful and friendly here. I brought an old clock in here about a month ago, to figure out if it was worth fixing. I spoke with the gentleman who is not the owner/repairman, and he gave me a wonderful history about my clock, a la "Antiques Roadshow." He couldn't give me an estimate, so I left it behind. He wrote me out a very scrappy little claim check and told me to call or check back with the owner. When I did, I was given an estimate of $180 to "fix it up nice." But since I can probably replace it on Ebay for about $40.00, and having little or no sentimental value, I declined. The owner offered me $5.00 for the non-working clock. I declined that, too. So, sorry I can't really tell you much about the quality or speed of repairs here, I can tell you that there are a couple of old guys working on a great set, in case you want to re-make a Twilight Zone episode on West Belmont. This place is great! I have had four watches and an antique clock repaired, here. In every case, the work was done quickly and perfectly, and the prices were unexpectedly low. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I found the owner to be very appealing: blunt, no-nonsense, but very friendly. He knows what he's doing and is happy to give advice. His phone persona may not be what you like, but, then, watches don't get fixed on the phone, and he is a busy guy. Give him one star for phone impressions but five stars for the things that matter. read more

Amazing service! I stopped in on a weekend for some repairs on two watches (broken metal clasp on one watch and a metal strap that came unhinged on another watch). The owner fixed BOTH watches for an incredibly reasonable price while I waited! On a weekend, no less! Got my watch fixed when I could not find no one. Gentleman charged me $4 to replace a spring bar on my band after it fell off and I lost it. I called manufacture, they wanted me to mail back my watch. I'm sure that would have been more expensive and time consuming. read more

Stay away as many other posts have stated ahead of this one. Loyalty means nothing to this shop. I have spent hundreds of dollars over the past six years living right around the corner from this shop. Changing batteries, sizing new watches, etc. at $12-$20 (depending on how they feel), adds up over 6 years and at least a dozen watches - never mind all the people you refer! My mother-in-law brought in two $100 (maybe) Seiko watches 3 months ago that this shop fixed for $40 each. When she brought the watches home, one of them broke as a result of the same problem. When I brought them in today, he tried charging me an additional $25.00 (and I forgot to mention I gave him another watch to replace another battery). He said the watch was snapped, handled incorrectly. Funny, she had this watch for 20+ years and had the other watch which still works for 20+ years, without issue. It's too bad! Very honest service. I've brought several watches here over the years and have never been disappointed. I recently brought in a watch that was losing time. I figured it was the battery, since it had been a few years since replacing it. The gentleman behind the counter took a look at it and asked me to come back in 30 mins. I came back and he told me that it wasn't the battery, which was in great shape. Instead, it was the mechanism itself. He could have easily lied and said it was both and charged me for a battery. Instead, he replaced the mechanism, gave me the old part back as proof, and now my watch runs like a charm! read more

I have spent more money on my grandfather's clock since I moved to Chicago 6 years ago than at any other time in its life - all due to this company. I had the pendulum worked on in September and it never worked correctly after that. I have called these people repeatedly and was told to call back later. When I call back, I am told to call back. I recently brought in my Regulator wall clock for repair, and Timekeepers did fine work for a reasonable price. While there, I learned they also conduct house calls for larger clocks, so I scheduled service for my Sligh tall case (grandfather clock). After 25 years, it was in bad shape since I was not aware they should be cleaned and lubricated on occasion. Now it works and sounds like brand new. He then said the watch's set mechanism was broken when I brought it in- which was false. He refused to do anything about it and sent me walking with my old battery (which he agreed needed changing) and with my broken watch. Stay away from this guy!!! read more

I brought in an old mantle clock that has been in my family for many years but has not worked for at least the last 30. The owner gave me a great history and description of the clock (learned it had a timer built in and was designed as a kitchen clock). He looked at it and was able to repair and clean it in about a week and now it works great, When I picked it up, he gave me a short lesson on how it all worked and how to maintain the clock.
