My Bradford Holy oaks clock which he fix the case made of real solid oak wood not veneer
    Art J.

Well this is the 1st time using Father Time since I hear them being advertised on classical music radio 98.7. I was familiar with them before because I used to be into antiquing and Belmont avenue had a lot more antique shops in the mid to late 90s. Anyways the reason why I came here is because I had a Bradford clock that I bought in 2008 which was made out of real oak wood the case or the frame. It had been service both to Bradford as well from another competitor called a Chicago clock company. Unfortunately I was not happy with Bradford clock because they use a German quartz movement called a Hermele. Bradford clocks proclaims that they are us made in regards only to their case which is real wood they use I bought an solid oak wood one and paid $300 back then in 2008 but unfortunately Hermele quartz movement made in Germany even though it's battery powered had faults of chiming the wrong time in Westminster chime. I ended up taking it to Chicago clock company and Clarendon hills and they put another kind of movement and got rid of that homily although I spent $200 for this Japanese one that had Christmas carols Westminster chime every 30 minutes and Westminster time every quarter of an hour as well as some other music it plays. Unfortunately it needed service again not because of the movement but because surprisingly the oak wood frame or case cracked when a Merry maid came over to clean our house for the first time I was not so happy. Usually after Thanksgiving I would set the clock to play the Christmas carols. When I took it into father time in which I spoke to I believe James he had mentioned that he could fix it the frame and he thought that the movement was broken it was like oh no I don't think so because I just fixed that movement with Chicago clock company and I had brought the batteries and it was still ticking and attacking including the movement of the pendulum. All he needed was to repair the case back because it really cracked but I'm surprised cuz it fell from the wall to the floor I don't know what the maid was doing. The reason why the four stars is he did a professional job putting it together and he finished it before Christmas which I gave him praise for the four stars. Why not five stars is because although it was the frame I think it was a bit too pricey almost as much as the clock I paid for Bradford original despite having it served so many times since 2008. But I do recommend coming here.

This place is fantastic and the owner is such a fun and witty guy to chat with. I can always find…read moreso many cool, one of a kind items here for my home and all at reasonable prices. It's nice not to have generic pottery barn or CB items like all the Joneses do. Over the last few years I've been able to find cute knick-knacks for the house, tables, and an antique Eastlake piece that I'm using as a bar. This place is a gem and everyone should visit. Places like this are why I prefer to shop local.

Have you ever walked into someone's home and thought to yourself, "Hmmm... Pottery Barn catalog,"…read moreor ditto, Crate and Barrel? I'm not dissing those stores, no, no, no. I love them! They stock the staples of good design. On the other side of the ledger there are antique stores, where there are always surprises, one-of-a-kinds and the smell of old wood. What's not to like? And then there's PRAHA: A rich collection of new and old, unusual pieces of decorative and architectural elements from Europe and the US, from dovetailed wooden boxes to large furniture pieces, linens and treasures of all types, jams, jellies and dip mixes, antique Shanghai Ladies posters, cottage style furnishings, lamps, trunks, European and domestic enamelware... on and on it goes... For me, PRAHA is like the proverbial candy store, and was elevated to Favorite Store status the first time I stepped inside. Much of the store's allure is the result of many shopping expeditions to Praha (Prague), where the owners purchased furniture and treasures as old as the hills, then shipped via crate back to the US. They trek to the best flea markets in the US. They keep their radar humming 24/7; a find is a find, no matter where it's discovered. But it's not just the merchandise. It's Todd and David, shopkeepers and proprietors. They love their store. They insist on expert craftsmanship in the new items they choose to sell, and enjoy musing on the secret history of their antiques. In chatting with Todd (for almost 2 hours on my first visit!) I discovered we share a love of old enamelware, antique tins, small boxes and interesting little containers. (Talk about a candy store!) Some acquisitions never make it to sale. One such item is an old coffee tin that Todd chose to keep for his own kitchen. It's not on display; it is used to store coffee, like it has been forever. He remarked how he always thinks about its mysterious history, the stories that could be told about the family in Praha who used it for generations. "Just think of it!" he said! There are stores filled with merchandise, clerks, and cashiers. And then there is PRAHA, filled with fabulous treasures, not the least of which are its shopkeepers, Todd and David. Czech it out!
