The use of traditional elements, paper-cut window designs, red Spring Festival couplets, old-style newspaper wall coverings, and exposed brick adds a strong sense of nostalgia. It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. Prices are reasonable for the generous portion sizes and the unique restaurant décor.

The highlight is the Iron Pot Stew (Tie Guo Dun), an interactive, communal dining experience where a massive iron pot is integrated directly into your table. Diners gather around as meats, seafood, and vegetables simmer in a rich, flavorful broth, filling the air with enticing aromas. Beyond the immersive stew, the restaurant shines with large portions of classic Dongbei dishes and flawless, homemade dumplings. The rustic, nostalgic decor successfully transports guests to a traditional Chinese village setting, enhancing the meal's authenticity. Service is attentive, with staff expertly managing the stew and adding fresh cornbread dough to the pot's sides, which steams to perfection. Happy Valley Village is a must-try for groups seeking great value, a festive atmosphere, and an incredibly satisfying and novel way to share a meal

It's located in this small unassuming plaza with many south asian businesses. I came here for lunch on a Sunday with a group of 14 people and they were super happy to accommodate. We made a reservation in advance. The inside is small dark yet cozy. No real interior design but that's typical for a Hakka Chinese restaurant in Scarborough. There were two other groups already eating before we all arrived. The staff were very nice and pleasant and even adjusted all their portion sizes so that instead of serving 13 pieces as the default they would give us 14 so that everyone had one. We ordered the wonton noodles, crispy breaded shrimp balls, chilli chicken, chilli fish, preserved lime fish, vermicelli, and white rice. Overall, the flavours were good but nothing blew me away. This is your standard Chinese Hakka restaurant but with very accommodating service.

A very friendly gentleman brought out the menu and some tea as we scanned the well-priced lunch menu. Since we both came for chili chicken, we tried 2 versions of this lunch special; one on crispy chow mien (extra) with a soft drink and one with hot and sour soup and steamed rice. The lunch combos come with a spring roll and a choice of soup or a soft drink and was around $14. Our food came out pretty quickly and it was piping hot which is always great! The hot and sour soup was very good and it actually had a nice kick to it with chunky tofu and veggies morsels. My friend took a spoonful and found it to be too spicy for her, but I have a decent heat tolerance and it tasted perfect for my palate. The chili chicken on our lunch looked equally good, but fell short as the chicken pieces were small, dry and tasted of old frying oil which was unfortunate because the gravy was so good. Maybe next time, I will try a different protein to see if that can earn the restaurant the rest of the stars. Looking forward to coming back to try other items here soon!

This dish was spicy and it goes well as a appetizer along with beer or alcohol to share with friends and family. Signature Free Range Chicken with Red Onin Sauce (half chicken) $18.99 was tasty. The chicken was tender and juicy with burst of shallots and green onion flavours. The sweet soy sauce pairs well with the chicken. This is one of their signature dishes and I recommend this dish. Braised Goose Feet in Abalone Sauce with Snow Pea Leaves $27.99. The goose feet were huge, nicely braised and full of collagen soaking up the rich abalone sauce served over snow pea leaves. This is a special dish and definetely worth trying. Overall I enjoyed this place and have tried other dishes here too previously like beef fried rice, eggplant with minced meat, pork shoulder with veggies, etc. 4 stars and I would definitely come back for more!

While parking isn't the greatest (most parking is at the back, shared with a supermarket), there isn't usually a wait here which I appreciate. Their BBQ pork with noodles is only $12! A steal even compared to most BBQ places, and it tastes great. Not dry at all. The other dimsum items, even the staples like har gao (shrimp dumplings) and BBQ pork buns were good. I do wish they had more variety but most dimsum places are the same anyway. Not sure if it was because we were seated in their basement, but service was very good, unlike other spots. There was one dedicated staff member who came by often and was very helpful and funny. She was so approachable and our table even had a few short casual conversations. This is definitely one of my top 5 at the moment, and my family's current go-to.

We arrived around 1pm on Saturday, and this place was full. They have only 5-6 tables. Pork with Crab Meat Steamed Bun D7: Pork and Celery Dumpling (boiled) P1: Pan fried pot stickers N3: Braised beef brisket noodles C11: Black fungus in vinegar sauce Food came fast, and our small table got full of food!! EVERYTHING was great. I love the wrapper of each dumplings, each has own "wheat-y flavor" itself. Each dumpling wrapper hits a perfect thickness/thinness. And they were flawlessly/carefully cooked - boiled/steamed to achieve soft and chewy texture, pan fried to execute crispy, soft and chewy texture. The each filling hits perfect seasoning balance - and juicy! Delicious! B12 Crab XLB & P1 Pot stickers are the must-order items. If you don't know which dumpling to try, then I highly recommend D7 (Celery and Pork, boiled). Juicy with this refreshing crunchy celery texture and gentle grassy aroma. Full of juice! Careful :) N3 noodle was also tasty and generous. The noodle texture was chewy and had a nice bite. A LOT of meat pieces. Last but not the least - C11, black fungus was soooo refreshing. Every bite was enjoyable. Very mildly seasoned with vinegar based dressing and garlic, mixed with freshly chopped coriander. Simple and delicate, showing their culinary confidence. I will come back, I cannot wait to try other dumplings!
