Listen, you have to come here and get the spicy beef patties. My friend and I had a beef patty phase, and although we have not tried every single shop that sells beef patties in Toronto yet, this has been the best in our search so far. P Jay's patties are delicate soft pastry encasing melty oxtail sauce flavoured spicy beef. Warden Station Patties, who? The first time I had these patties, it was 5 minutes before closing time. I made the mistake of only ordering one, so I had to wait till the next day to pick up a dozen. You have to eat them fresh because they won't be the same the next day. The first time I tried the jerk pork it was amazing, second time it was kind of dry. The oxtail is fine, the portion is a bit on the small side but with all the rice they give you, it's still a filling dish. The rice is super extra almost-burn-your-hands hot every time so be careful. The vegetables are hit and miss. I would probably stick to the patties for P Jays. The plaza is tiny but there's always plenty of parking. P Jay's is hidden in the hallway that runs right through the middle of it. Take-out only: there is no seating here, you order your food, and you eat it somewhere else. Cash only, there is no ATM, so come prepared. read more

It's been a while since I've been to P Jay's for their delicious Jamaican food and excellent patties. With friends visiting from out of town, it was a good opportunity to enjoy some good food while introducing some new friends to authentic Jamaican cuisine. Of course, patties were a must, and P Jays makes one of the best in the GTA. If you didn't know, Patrick (the P in P Jay's) is the brother of the late Randy of Randy's Patties. You have to try these patties! For dinner, we picked up Oxtail, Curry Goat, Fricasee Chicken, and Rice & Peas. We made Coleslaw to complement this meal but we couldn't find any plantain. That would have been really good! As expected, everything was absolutely delicious, with the first-timers loving every bite! The meats were all tender and juicy with great depth of flavour. The chicken, unlike a lot of other restaurants, didn't fall apart. The food is 5/5 read more

This is an institution of the Scarborough area as it been around since forever. Finally got to try it out on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Got the beef patty with coco bread, and the meat combo with jerk chicken and goat curry. My favourite was the goat curry as it was fall off the bone and so flavourful. Not too spicy but with some heat to make it interesting. Will try oxtail next time read more

This shop is located at the back of the plaza and is only for takeout. There must be quite a few people that eat their meal right away in their cars, like I saw in the parking spot next to mine. Their menu is simple, and prices are reasonable. I ordered a small jerk chicken along with a Jamaican patty. The level of spiciness is probably okay for many people, but since I'm a spice wimp, it definitely had a kick for me. read more

Their patties remind me so much of Randy's and I have been told that the owner of this place and Randy's are related. Maybe that's the reason that their patties taste so good. They also sell other Caribbean dishes besides patties. Unfortunately, I have yet to try them. The place in a ubiquitous plaza, with no visible signage of where the place is. Just follow the smell and you won't be disappointed. Their patties have a thinner crust and the filling is not as packed but they taste so good. It's one of the best patty place in the GTA. read more

Rating 3.75/5 Con: -cash only -parking lot is very small and place is easy to miss when driving. The rice and chicken was much better than Chris Jerk. The coleslaw/salad wasn't that good compare to everywhere else. I think the salad was basically pickled cabbage. Compared to Island Flava and Nicey's, the jerk chicken has less flavour, but at least it wasn't dry. The rice however was good because they put enough ox tail sauce on it, so it's a bit on the wetter side, but not soggy, I would say the rice taste better than nicey's and Island Flava. The wait time was much faster than Nicey's Portion size: for $15.50 large I would say it does meet my expectation. I would definitely recommend this over Chris Jerk nearby. read more

Flavourful and filling! I got the jerk chicken on rice combo which comes with a a piece of jerk chicken, a piece of plantain, and coleslaw salad, on top of rice with beans. It was delicious! I like that they are a local store selling authentic meals. It does feel a little pricey for what you get, but the meal is still quite filling. read more

This food was extra delicious and authentic! My wife and I got the jerk chicken and oxtails and a couple beef patties. Everything was seasoned and prepared as if they wanted to eat it themselves. And that is the true test for me. It's hilarious reading a couple of these reviews of people that obviously don't know what jerk is supposed to taste like. It makes me wonder about the motivation. Chris jerk is ok. But, it's obviously a business decision catered to milder palates. This place had excellent flavor, great rice and peas with gravy! Definitely coming back! read more

When I crave Jamaican food, this is the place I think of! The Jamaican food here is sooooo good. This is definitely a hidden gem in Scarborough, tucked inside a small empty plaza. It's a small store that focuses on the food. I ordered the chicken fricassee and the ox tail. The meat is so juicy and tender, it just falls right off. It is also saucy and full of flavour, and comes with 2 sides, the plantains and the rice and peas. The plantains are the best!!! I've never tasted anything like this. Sadly, you can't order a whole box of these, which I wish they had because I can just eat this for an entire meal. Tip: Go early! They ran out of the rice and peas and the jerk chicken...which I've also tried and loved. They also make amazing patties. read more

Wow. What a fantastic meal. As others have already pointed out, it is a hidden gem, tucked away in an unassuming strip mall past Huntingwood. I got the mixed dinner combo (oxtail and curried goat on top of rice and peas with a side of slaw) and added a jamaican patty on top of it - which are Randy's patties I believe and was delicious btw. I was hoping to buy an imported ginger beer to complement my meal but unfortunately they dont carry it anymore. My meal came to around $15 and it was absolutely glorious. It is truly only a take-out joint, so no seating. I will be returning way more often since it is within short driving distance of where I work. Highly recommended place! read more

Scarborough is such a great foodie heaven. Some of the best foods from all nationalities are found here and P Jays is no exception. P Jays has been here for a long time and its been a few years since I've been here to my dismay as they make some fantastic Jamaican fare. Located in a dying old plaza where most of the stores have closed, stands a gem where some delicious oxtail, curried goat and jerk chicken and pork are made. The menu is limited but the stuff they do make is fantastic. I ordered a mixed combo entree of oxtail and jerk chicken over rice and peas accompanied by fried plantains and small salad. Dang it was freaking delicious! The oxtail was ultra tender and the jerk chicken full of flavour over the rice and peas. The meal brought back many memories of my high school and university days...sniff:) The place is really tiny and there are no seats so its definitely a take out place. They also sell patties but I forgot to ask which brand they carry now as they use to be Randy's Patties. Its almost impossible to find as the signage is almost nonexistent so keep an eye out for the old plaza. Trust me, once you find it your taste buds will never forget again:). read more

Overall the food was really good! The Rice and Peas with gravy amazing!! Not giving it 4 stars because of the price... Paid $29 for 1 small jerk chicken dinner and 1 medium oxtail dinner and drinks. Given these were small take-out containers... we both felt it didn't deserve 4 stars. Jerk chicken and oxtail were both good, however my brother and I both felt the Rice and Gravy were definitely above average - mostly the gravy tho. I wouldn't mind coming back again, even tho it was expensive.. but Chris Jerk is still my first choice this type of food. In my opinion, better Rice and Peas, better oxtail, and cheaper price... No recommendation from me, but would return. read more

Excellent. This is not a trendy "it" place. It's an old-school hole-in-the-wall mom-and-pop joint. A bit hard to find (it's deep in the "tunnel" in the plaza). Goat curry: very tasty. Oxtail: tender and delicious. Jerk chicken: moist (not spicy though). Patties: very nice. All in all, a great place for people who seek out good food (not for trend seekers). read more

P Jays is hidden. Even all these years that I've driven on Kennedy road. The tiny undesirable plaza it resides doesn't appeal to too many people as you see the barebone convenient store, a few chiropractors, an office here and there and less than a handful of take-out restaurants. P Jays is hidden as it doesn't face directly from the main Kennedy road. You have to walk-thru an open internal pathway and during dark nights it can be your trial-runs for the true ghetto-ness of more southern regions of Scarborough. P Jays closes roughly 8pm, so it'll never get dark enough but there might not be too many souls around if you travel alone. 3.5'd Definitely the typical west-indie carribean take out shop setup: old-school analog register, fridge full of west-indie beverages, a basic handwritten blackboard menuboard, swing-door leading to the kitchen, and the hot pepper sauce bottle next to the register. Same old same old. Mix(2 choice of protein $11.00 tax included) - From a choice of Oxtail, Curried Goat, Fricasse Chicken, Jerk Chicken, Stew Peas(Fridays only), I got Jerk Chicken & Curried Goat which came with Rice & Peas, Slaw and a couple pieces of Plantains. Curry Goat has good overall spice flavour not too overwhelming while the meat is tender enough without falling apart on it's own. The Jerk spice on the BBQ Chicken was just as good and the Chicken was BBQ'd nicely. Slaw is a-ok'd. Small complains making the meal hard to chug was that the Rice & Peas were quite mushy. Secondly the Jerk Chicken was chopped into 3 pieces which created some miniscule bone shatters, so please do not chug but rather chew carefully. Enjoy. Ting's brand Old Jamaican Ginger Beer($2.00 tax included) - This is a Jamaican brand Ginger Beer but tasted more like Lemonade sweetness with small hints of Ginger kick. Unlike the ones I've had before where it has enough kick to make Scotch Bonnets feel weak. The sweetness and fizz definitely makes this a Ginger Beer for the uninitiated. read more

Amazing authentic Jamaican take out place. There is no seating whatsoever so be prepared for take out. Their patties are great and the jerk pork, jerk chicken, oxtail is all great. I prefer their oxtail over Chris Jerk's oxtail. I just wish they had vegetarian options since I converted now but when I was eating here all the time, I enjoyed it a lot! Highly recommend this small local OG business. read more

You could walk by or drive by P Jays and never notice it. It's located inside an alley in a small plaza on Kennedy Rd just North of Huntingwood Dr in Scarborough. It's really unfortunate because the food is really good authentic Jamaican food. I ordered a small jerk dinner meal ($8.75 tax included) with rice and peas with oxtail gravy over it. The chicken was fantastic, perfectly done skin and seasoning and the meat was tender and juicy. The rice and peas were nice and moist and the oxtail gravy was rich and flavourful. The plantain was also really good. The only thing that wasn't too good was the coleslaw which wasn't creamy enough. If you are looking for good authentic Jamaican food in upper Scarborough at a reasonable price, definitely try out P Jays. read more

This place is my first experience with Jamaican food. I first tried their jerk chicken with fried plantain, and I loved it. The chicken is juicy and tender. I tried a different thing each time, and nothing had ever disappointed me. My wife and I are suffering from food poisoning from our lunch today (Nov 13, 2018). After all the rave reviews, she picked up one order of oxtail to bring home. She had a few bites and admitted that it was way too spicy for her. She insisted I eat the rest and to not waste it. I obliged as it did smell exceptionally good. It tastes as it smells and I had no issue devouring it. An hour later my wife runs to the bathroom and is singing to the toilet gods. In my head, I thought the spice got to her. Two hours later I was getting the burps and the farts. It's the initial sign my body likes to warn me that I ate something bad. Two hours later I'm shivering in my hoodie and jogging pants, nauseous and weak, with my heaters cranked. My wife has the exact same symptoms. I hate to give this restaurant a bad review but tainted meat masked by the curry sauce is not my cup of tea. Unless the chefs knew, it is hard to blame them if a tainted item gets past them. PS: Perhaps this is a one-time ordeal and my wife and I were the lucky ones to get sick. Please don't think this one post will stop you from continuing to frequent this place, the food is tasty same with the patties! PPS: I skipped breakfast today and ate on an empty stomach. read more

I was there today... and the Veggie patties were SUPERB!! My faves! I tried another place that is highly regarded... this place hands down was better. I hate using cliches so calling a place a hidden gem generally makes me cringe, and although this place is not really a "gem", it is no doubt hidden. Although bookmarked since forever, I've never really had the time nor the energy to look for this place so when I chanced upon it when I was visiting this plaza, I was uber excited. My mother was complaining about me walking around the plaza and not going with her straight to the doc's office, but wandering sure has its rewards. I ordered a small take-out oxtail with rice and peas and a small take-out jerk pork with rice and peas. As another reviewer said below, the rice and peas are a bit mushy, but i do think they taste the best this way. The jerk pork was definitely not as good as the jerk porks I had in Jamaica - not as tender and not as juicy. But the oxtail and its gravy were mouthwatering good - just writing about it now makes my mouth water. It's not super cheap at $9 for a small (including tax) but the portion was more than i can handle though my brother says a small would not generally be enough for him. So together, two smalls was enough for the two of us. Don't get me wrong: although it's not a perfect place with every facet and every dish being 5 stars, I am still giving this a five-star rating because it's not easy finding Caribbean food this good in this neighbourhood. read more

My favorite place for ox tail! I've tried most, if not all, places that offer ox tail and P Jays take out is by far the best. Their ox tail is meaty and big. Other places have ox tail that is small and bony which makes it exhausting to pick out and eat, but this place doesn't. Also, the meal comes with rice or rice and peas, plantain, and coleslaw. The plantain is amazing with the ox tail and usually comes with two pieces. Service is pretty fast. The price for a large ox tail meal is around $14 and a small is around $12. You have to try this place at least once if you like ox tail. read more

You know the place is authentic when it's highly recommended AND you can barely find it nestled in a run down retail complex. I got the mix of oxtail and chicken, and it was SO good. The oxtail was really flavorful and moist, and the seasoning on the chicken was fantastic. It left me inspired to try to make it at home, but also hesitant to fail at recreating such great flavors. The beef patty was also really good - sort of like a Jamaican empanada, but bigger, flatter, and spicier. I even got a dozen frozen patties to bring home with me! read more

I haven't have a lot of Jamaican food but with the little Jamaican food I had was pretty good so I decided to try out this place. First off the price for the food was not bad. I ordered the oxtail and it comes with Rice and peas, Coleslaw and veggies(I'm pretty sure after reading other reviews I was supposed to get plantains but I didn't). The oxtail was really good. It was flavourful, tender and was amazing. The rice and peas were really mushy but very flavourful. I just personally perfer rice and peas that isn't mushy. The mixed veggies taste like it was frozen and it was way to overcooked. The coleslaw was not crunchy and hot but I ain't complaining because it is a takeout spot. The service was ok but quick. Overall the oxtail is pretty much what made my experience. It was so good that I'm able to ignore the mushy rice and peas, coleslaw and mixed veggies. read more

Truly a hidden gem in Scarborough, both literally and figuratively. Tucked away in a random plaza with empty storefronts around it. Been going here for the curry goat and oxtail for years (the plantain is ). Then this year a friend mentioned that their patties are the best ever so gave that a try, too. Did not disappoint! Really juicy and flavourful inside. Bought a fresh one to go ($1.75) and a box of one dozen frozen ($16). Such a great spot for Jamaican food! read more

Came here for the jerk chicken dinner and it was good tasting but the pieces of chicken were so small that they were dried out. The spicy beef patties were just a couple teaspoons of filling in the center and about an inch and half of plain pastry all the way around the outside. Also the filling didn't have much beef and was mostly some kind of gelatin gravy. Two thumbs down on both of these items. The rice and peas were ok but it could use a little more kidney beans. This place really cheaps out on meat and the lady at the desk gives you real attitude. I won't be back. Negative 3 Stars. read more

This is coming from a jamaican born and raised in jamaica. Trust me, find this place and you're happy you've found it. It's right after huntingwood on Kennedy north. Great little spot.
