About 30 years ago, my mother had him put a 2C Kenya diamond (?) onto her antique wedding band and I had a 1C one put into an older ring of mine. He did a great job and I still have them both even though I no longer wear that type of jewelry. My adult son was visiting from Florida and needed a minor watch repair. I suggested we drop it off there so he could have it fixed before he went back. Mr. Harris was extremely rude to him and said that he did not do watch repairs (even though I recall having some done in the past and his website advertises that as one of his services). He said he only replaces batteries so, since I had some that needed that, I asked how much that was. He replied , "as much as I can get". I assumed he was joking, but when we all laughed, he said "I don't do watches, I'm a jeweler." My son asked if he knew anyone in the area who did any watch work and he replied, "Nobody." His demeanor wasn't appropriate for a longtime business owner. I have seen this gentleman in church and have read good reviews for the business, so maybe we caught him on a bad day. I just felt the need to leave a review so that maybe he'll be kinder to potential customers in the future.

I came in to have a watch band replaced and the jeweler while asking about the watch almost berated…read moreme for buying it on a cruise and not from a local jeweler like him. He's also said that the watch was not a good brand and that he never heard of it. He had great difficulty replacing the watch band and took a long time doing it blaming it on the watch. Three months later my watch band breaks and I bring it to another jeweler to replace the band being frustrtaed that the band broke in such a little amount of time. The new jeweler told me that the post to hold the band on the watch was totally wrong and was forced into place which is what caused the watch band to break. On top of that the jeweler had a whole display of watches that were the brand of my watch that the jeweler in smithvile told me were cheap and that he never heard of. The jeweler at smithvile is either an idiot, senile, incompetent or dishonest and I will never set foot in that store again. I urge you not to patronize this store as he does not know what he is doing and in addition is very condescending. Horrible establishment.

It was a ring that had significant sentimental value that I thought had been lost. However, when I bought the ring, I needed to increase its size to what I learned at Spivak's was a 9.5. That was because when I purchased the ring, I weighed about 180 pounds more than I do now. So, having found this ring, I went to Spivak's to see if they could resize the ring to a smaller size for me so that I could wear it. Unfortunately, they could not. They were honest in telling me that trying to reduce the size of the ring to that extent would result in changing the entire character of the ring. The shape would be destroyed. They also shared that if another jeweler told me anything else, they were likely leading me astray, But, they still didn't leave me without a compromise. A ring guard! They charged me nothing AND cleaned another ring that I had with me that belonged to my grandmother. I can't say sufficient positive things about this business, the professionalism, and courtesy that they showed me. I came in just before they close for lunch at 12:30 pm and was asked to come back at 1 pm when they re-open. When I came back just after 1 pm, there were a few other customers, so I had to wait 10 minutes or so, but the actual process of my watches being fixed was very quick and was only $10 total. Service was also very friendly. I would definitely come back for any watch repair needs. They currently have a notice on their door that they are closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday this year.
