It was pretty straight forward to get a tag and saw. The direction you walk is determined by the type of tree you want. There are trees of various sizes - width and height. The selection probably is better the earlier in the season you go, but I found my perfect tree today, one week before they are scheduled to close for the season. I appreciate the owner (I think) and the gentlemen assisting being super friendly. They make sure your tree is secure which was a concern for me traveling an hour away on the highway. Tips: have cash; have something to protect your roof (tarp, blankets).

Anyway, about 5 years ago we had a couple of incidents with one of our dogs at the time and she knocked our tree over twice...and in the process we lost a bunch of my wife's ornaments (a tree full of santa ornaments each year). Needless to say, the tradition of having a real tree ended that year. Well THIS year, we're trying again and we went back to our old tree hunting grounds...Beaverbrook Tree Farm out in Sussex County. This place is great, even if it is off the beaten path. We showed up this morning at about 10:30 and they already had cookies out for the kids (free) and the cider was warning up. While it sounds odd, what I like about this place is that you actually have to walk quite a ways to get to the trees (over the hills and through the woods) so you can mix in a LITTLE bit of exercise in the process. Luckily we found a tree very quickly and I had it cut down and dragged to the path for the guys to come pick it up for us. So now I have to get it onto the minivan and tie it down right??? Nope, these guys run the tree through the webbing to make it tight, put it on the roof of the vehicle, and tie it down for you. Worth every penny I paid for it and best of all I know it's fresh. And in case you're wondering...yes, the darn thing was too big again and I had to cut 6 inches off the bottom and the top so it would fit. Support your locals! Give Beaverbrook Tree Farm a shot for your tree this year!

Fresh garland wreaths, roping, Christmas accessories and railroad gifts are also for sale in the barn, "Christmas Junction". Dave and Lynn Beck are good family friends so even though there are 3 or 4 other tree farms close by, we always go to Beck's. It is a tradition to go after church on a Sunday afternoon and pick our tree. Um, most people drive home with their tree tied to the roof of their car. My family is NOT like most people. Dad feels it's much easier to uh, drive our John Deere tractor/wagon here and load it up in the wagon so we can forgo the hassle of tying it to our car. It's been a little different since my brother and I left the nest as the tree is usually up when we get home from Penn State or DC, respectively. When I moved to DC and bought a fresh tree 2 years ago, I was astounded by the $50 price tag. A 4-5 foot tree for $50!? Not the case at Beck's. I believe the price is between $40-45 for a 6 or 7 foot tree which is amazing. Beck's also has a huge pile of garland behind the barn that patrons are free to take as much as they want. Mom usually takes a few pieces to assemble mini trees that she puts on our front porch as decorations. Go to Beck's for your Christmas trees. It's worth it. But you don't have to bring your tractor...you can just bring a regular car or truck ;-). [PHOTOS] http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/7p4m-QZKoAeVDK99Cvw1vQ?select=OwrLyYk8B0y7UkQxUPzfAg

It's definitely WAY out in northwestern N.J., but it's a pretty easy drive. Lots of very well maintained trees and different species depending on your preference. They charge $8 per foot so it may be a little more expensive than the place we went last year, but it was worth the extra few bucks. Only downfall today was that they don't have a tractor driving around helping to pick up trees...they have wagons and plastic sleds for you to bring the trees to the location where they wrap the trees. Worked out fine for us. Guys and the kids wrapping the trees were great and they will tie the tree to your car for you. They also provide free cookies and hot chocolate! I really like that they wrap the tree with twine instead of plastic netting that never degraded in a landfill. Kudos! Yeah, we'll be back next year.

It is a great place to take a day trip with the whole family and choose and cut your own Christmas tree! There are many different tree species from spruces to firs and they also sell wreaths and other Christmas decorations. Yes the prices are high at $60 any tree but they are reasonable considering you could cut down a 16 foot tree for $60 where as other farms price it by the foot. There is even free hot chocolate and cookies. I highly recommend glenview farm to anyone who is not looking to just get a pre cut tree on the side of the road and wants the full holiday experience! It is also a very beautiful place that is always kept very clean and nice year after year.

There was a great variety of trees, the details can be found on their website. It's very organized upon arrival with workers who show you where to park and point out the areas of different trees. I love how they put tree carts and hand saws all throughout the farm, so they are easily accessible. The trees are nicely spaced out so they are able to grow. They seem very healthy! We purchased blue spruce, and were very happy with their selection. There are many areas blocked off, I assume since they are still growing and need to mature. It's probably best they do this, to ensure proper growth and health of the trees. They have a cute store with freshly made wreaths, and all things Christmas related! It was SO cute! I'll be sure to purchase my trees and wreaths here moving fwd. The prices are a little higher than what we are use too, but I assume it's because of the care they provide to the trees and quality. Worth it to us. FYI- There are no dogs allowed or electric saws. They accept credit cards, which was nice as we didn't have cash. They shake, wrap and drill a hole into the trees. I would also wear boots you don't mind getting muddy. Thank you!!!

It wasn't easy finding trees over 9 feet. but we found it.. it cost $267. There are popular sprayed trees as well. Keep in mind they don't allow tailgating which isn't good considering we are coming 2 hours away and everyone is hungry. Apparently a few customers ruined it for the masses. We drove back home to go out to eat.
