K, I've seen all the great reviews. I look at reviews to see if I'm on point or an outlier. In this case, I'm apparently an outlier, but it's what I experienced, so whatever. This was not good. I stopped by for breakfast. The place is attached to a gas station. I've had some great food from similarly arranged restaurants, but... not this time. I had a veggie omelet with hash browns and OJ. I tried to figure out what order to talk about these in, since they were all really, really bad. The veggie omelet... it was bad. The green peppers, if I had to guess, had been prepped a few days earlier. They were greyish-green. Not close to fresh. It was just nasty. The hash browns.... they were bad. I've literally never had bad hash browns until I ate here. There was just this flavor.... it wasn't good at all. The OJ was sour. Yelp says to talk about the ambiance. There were some really offensive people playing dice at one of the tables. They were regulars. It was a pleasant distraction from the food. In short- don't eat here. read more

I stopped on my way by on 94 and Yelp is the reason I stopped. I started with the steak and potato soup which was creamy and delicious. Steak was soft and well seasoned. The review of the Reuben motivated me to get it and I am SO HAPPY I did. I wanted to lose myself in that sandwich. Tender meat that melts with each bite. It was well balanced with the flavors. I got the American fries as a side which were crispy they way I like them. Just as the other review stated it was a very filling meal. I took half home. From the warm greeting at the door, to the nice waitress who took our photo at the table, to this delicious food, to the very reasonably priced check, to the thank yous and pleasant farewells as we exited, this was a top notch experience. Timber Valley restaurant is inside a gas station/convenience store. We chose to eat here because of its proximity to the RV park we stayed in for one night. Even though you enter the restaurant through the convenience store, the inside of the restaurant looks like a nice stand alone restaurant. The waitress greeted us quickly and took our order. I ordered the meatloaf and mashed potatoes and she asked me if we were sharing. My reply was, "No, I'm eating it all myself." My husband ordered the fried walleye. When she brought our meals I then understood why she had asked the sharing question. It was two huge pieces of meatloaf. It was okay meatloaf but my husbands walleye was wonderful. Don't let the thought of a truck stop dissuade you from eating here! Super clean restaurant and bathroom. Waited on immediately. I was torn between the taco wrap and Rueben. Waitress said they are known for their Rueben's. I can see why! Best Rueben I have had in all of my 64 years. Could only eat half of it and still we had no room for pie. Clean, rustic, excellent service and very friendly staff. After reading previous reviews, we decided to give this truck stop restaurant a try. So glad we did! Food was served fast and hot. I had a Rueben melt with a cup of chicken vegetable soup. Soup was full of veggies but pretty ordinary. The Rueben was amazing! Stacked with grilled, shredded corned beef, fresh sauerkraut and a delicious dressing on marble rye. Definitely a 10/10! Husband had blueberry fritter French toast and declared it excellent. His side sausage patty was large and also excellent. We plan another stop in before we leave town! read more

This is the cleanest, nicest, least racist truck stop restaurant I have ever in my life encountered. The truck stop itself is the cleanest, nicest, least racist truck stop I've ever been to. And it is roughly half way between Milwaukee and Minneapolis, a trip I make not infrequently. Although their best meals are the not-healthy American breakfasts, they have great lunch and dinner choices too. More importantly, great pie and coffee. This is one of the best authentic White American cuisine restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I could tell just peeking in the window getting gas (good prices) because all the customers are White Americans. Waitstaff friendly without being fake, efficient, and attentive. Although this is the sort of place where eating to being uncomfortably full is the norm, they also sell Amish chocolates, smoked meats, and other snacks for the road. read more

I travel between Milwaukee and Minneapolis regularly and the Hixton Travel Plaza featuring the Timber Valley Restaurant is the must stop place. The food is top notch. Really. I've had some of the best meals at this little gem. I found this by accident pulling off the interstate in a terrible storm 4 years ago and this is now my go to place on the road. I was astonished at the Prime Rib. It was on par to some great steakhouses I've eaten at. Very surprising for a combo gas station/restaurant. The server was pleasant and helpful. Outside of the "truck stop" feel it has a family restaurant vibe which is very homey. Prices were in line with an off the interstate dining restaurant. read more

I agree with the other comments... just passing through and a nice place, awesome customer service. Although nothing spectacular on the menu, it's just done well. Very clean, fast service and reasonably priced. On a last note, the coffee, black, nothing added brings back a childhood memory of my dads coffee he used to make... funny how this brought back a memory I wasn't expecting, but there you go... must be the brand but good stuff. read more

It used to be that Timber Valley Restaurant was the place to go. They had good portions and the food was outstanding. However, lately the food has not been as good and the portions have really went down. They are still a good place just not great like they used to be. read more

I have to confess, I have a weakness for diners/diner food. When we stopped for diesel I could tell from the ice cream cone sculptures on every gas pump that there was something special about Timber Valley Restaurant. Don't be fooled by its modest exterior. The food is great. Homemade meatloaf, real mash potatoes and gravy, homemade bread (!!) and pies. My husband had the meatloaf open-face sandwich and I had the turkey. We split a pecan pie. Perfect. A true hidden gem, we checked the reviews when we stopped for diesel...our food was amazing! My husband had the corn beef hash and eggs, the corn beef is in house made and was delicious. I had eggs over easy, bacon, and pancakes, the eggs were perfectly cooked and the pancakes were light and fluffy as all good pancakes should be. This is a great place for breakfast. Large portions of food. 4 real pieces of bacon come with the meal rather then a couple of thin slices. The corn beef hash breakfast was great.
