Rip off! Don't buy. Don't support crooks. Rude, confused, crappy construction, liars, poor loan officers. A total joke!

A+ Construction & Remodeling ADU Builders - ADU

A+ Construction & Remodeling ADU Builders

I used A+ Construction to build our 2-story ADU in Citrus Heights. I did a lot of research online…read morecomparing contractors and also asked our neighbors that have built ADUs for their input. Honestly, our motivation to add a backyard ADU was primarily for extra square footage of living space. Our oldest child had just finished college and was returning to the Sacramento area to look for work. After 3 years away from home, it was starting to become apparent that our oldest was still our child and that it would be nice to have some extra square footage of living space for all of us. In time, we hoped that the ADU would generate enough rental income to offset part of the mortgage but that was not our initial motivation. This company did not have a "salesy" feel to it. We had already decided on a rough idea of what we wanted to build and did not need someone to try to sell us all of the upgrades. Many of the upgrades seemed to add a lot of cost for little return. Most of the communication of my contact was with Irene (ADU designer and architect) and project manager Andrew. Since our ADU is attached to the main house in the corner, good light comes in while not making the unit too large for the backyard. This was not the construction that I worried about it was the parking. We have a very narrow driveway and was actually the part that I worried the most about during the construction of the ADU. And it looks better than I had anticipated. The ADU looks better integrated than I thought it would. My son moved in a few weeks ago and he is happy!

We were specifically told solar would NOT be required for our ADU size, and that if we signed before tariffs took effect, material prices would not increase. After taking our deposit and multiple payments, they later claimed solar was suddenly required and attempted to pass the added costs onto us. After we pushed back and pointed out the misrepresentation, the company became extremely adversarial instead of acting like a contractor working for their client. They then started introducing change orders, additional fees, and attempted to replace the original agreement with a new contract containing major changes to homeowner rights, stricter payment terms, increased fees, and language designed to protect the contractor -- not the customer. At this point we've had to retain legal counsel and file a complaint with the Contractor's State Licensing Board I strongly recommend that anyone considering this company carefully review every document, verify every verbal promise in writing, and consult an attorney before signing anything.

When multiple plumbers and even the local sewer company told me that my main pipe was no longer any good because of roots and collapsing, i knew it was time to take action. I decided to get at least three quotes for the job, and even looked into the trench-less method and completely digging up the old pipe and replacing it. Fortunately, my parents recommended Valentin, the contractor who built their beautiful house in East Sacramento. I gave him a call and he immediately scheduled a time to come out and assess the job. Within hours, i had a bid in my hand. I received a total of four different bids, but Maxton Builders' bid was the lowest and the stated completion date was several days sooner. When the crew arrived, they not only fixed my main pipe, but they also helped me with a few other repairs, fixing the substandard work done by a previous contractor. The difference between the previous contractor and Maxton Builders was like night and day. The crew was professional, efficient, and did an outstanding job. Maxton Builders has proven to me that whether it's new home construction or repairs to older homes, they are the only choice in town. You can't beat their price and the level of quality they provide. You'll definitely use Maxton Builders for all your construction needs in the future. I give them your highest recommendation.

I called Maxton and spoke with Valentin, who agreed to help me even though this job was smaller than most he takes on. Let me tell you: the work he did for me was an absolute lifeline. He took care of all permitting needs and got my project finished promptly and for a fair price. I went from being up the creek to feeling taken care of and confident with the work. If you're considering a remodel, Valentin and his company will do right by you.

Per Bob's response:…read more Bob claimed that I turned his workers away when they showed up as scheduled on multiple occasions. This is not accurate. On several occasions Bob sent workers on days when I had not been informed they would be coming (Saturday and Sundays) . Although this was unexpected, I still welcomed them and allowed them to work. While not expected I thought it was a sign that they were ready to get the job done quickly. Bob also scheduled a potential replacement tile tradesman to come look at the job without notifying me ahead of time. I had to leave church in order to meet him, and I did so because I wanted to keep the project moving forward. The only time I asked his crew not to come was when our family was on vacation from the end of July through the beginning of August. This trip had been planned months in advance, and the bathroom was originally supposed to be finished by the end of May, so there should not have been any scheduling conflict. In contrast, there were many days where I expected people to come to my home to work and nobody showed up. Sometimes for multiple days in a row, leaving my bedroom without a door, and debris all over my bathroom. Bob also claimed that I requested nearly a dozen changes during the course of the project. This is not correct. The only adjustments that occurred were either suggestions made by his tradesmen (such as adding a transition between the tile and carpet) or "pivots" needed to address mistakes made. In those situations, I tried to find solutions that would save both time and money. Once the project was bid, we did not request changes to the original scope other than those mentioned above. I do not understand why Bob made this claim in his response. Bob also stated that the tile pattern was extremely complex. As can be seen in the photos, the floor consists of hex mosaic tiles and the walls are standard 3x6 subway tile. Both of these tile styles have been widely used for over 100 years. We discussed the tile selections before Bob submitted his bid. In fact, this same tile combination was installed in another bathroom by Bob's crew the previous year, and it turned out beautifully. Aside from a small issue with the floor that was quickly corrected, the finished bathroom looks fantastic. I love that bathroom, which is why I hired Bob again for our master bathroom project. Because of that positive experience, I find it surprising that he now describes this project as extremely complex. Based solely on our first bathroom project with that crew, I would have recommended Bob without hesitation. Bob also claimed that I did not give them the opportunity to fix the grout issues on the floor. I have text message threads showing that I requested these repairs several times and it was not corrected. Eventually, the situation became tense. Bob even told me that his workers did not like me. He later walked that statement back and said only his foreman was frustrated with me. At that point, I did not want to continue asking for the same repairs repeatedly and risk further conflict with the foreman, so I ultimately accepted the result and moved forward with finishing the job. (aside from his foreman being frustrated with the situation, I found all of the people that came to work at my house to be very nice and enjoyable people). Bob has stated that he is confident the shower is completely waterproof. However, the corner of the built-in shower niche has pulled away from the wall, leaving a large crack and gap in the grout. I have had to recaulk this area twice. I hope that there is no water behind the wall, but the issue is concerning. Additionally, there is a screw in the shower faucet that can be pulled out because it is not threaded into anything. I have not yet had time to investigate this further, but it raises additional concerns about the integrity of the installation.

I have done a lot of work over the years and am happy to say that if you live in this area, he is your guy. He was fair and honest from the get go. The price he gives you is the price you will pay. I never received any surprise "change orders". As contractors go, Omar was VERY open and communicative. No problems ever getting him or his crew on the phone. He had great suggestions on all things we discussed. Always seemed to know a lot about his work and various things people like. The project was a big one, and I am super happy with how fast it went. He even got started for us over Thanksgiving and Xmas, and his crew would show up on Saturday or Sunday sometimes to keep on working (which was fine with us!). There were no subcontractors involved... everything was through Noor Construction. If we had any minor issues that needed correcting, Omar would come and look at it and tell his crew what to do. We really appreciate the details, crown molding and trim was superbly done, and the tile was just amazing, we are very impressed with his team. I mean seriously anyone who has attempted to do crown molding in the past knows what I am talking about. For details if you've made it this far, our story: Where shall I start. I suppose we start with the idea: build a bedroom in the second floor space of our "great room" which has really tall ceilings... like 30 feet plus. So basically add a bedroom in the second story "empty space" above the first floor. Easy right? Well, after getting ghosted by several contractors, I finally called Omar. He informed he thought we were probably getting ghosted because the architect had told him that footings were needed to support this new bedroom which would be sort of like an island in the middle of the house. We live on a hill, so these support columns would have to go through the first floor, basement, and then under the house. This added to the cost, but we really wanted a bedroom in that space. Omar gave me a price. I told him no thanks, my wife and I thought well maybe we changed our mind as the cost came in higher with the footing work. After a few weeks, we talked it over, changed our minds. We really needed the bedroom. I called him, thinking "gosh he probably won't want our work". Omar came back, no change in price, same deal as before, he didn't even bat an eye, he was ready to go, and this was like 4 weeks later after I told him no. So yea, it was project that I was told was too much for people, everyone didn't want to go get permits or deal with the footings... Omar told us what to expect and stuck to the plan. He dealt with the County and the inspector always came and said even himself "these guys know what they are doing". We passed all inspections. Omar even was super flexible about adding things to the project as we went along, as you know I get ideas about what I might want, we added some carpeting and shelving, and additional tile work that he added at no additional cost to him. He really just knows what he is doing and is super on top of things. So go with Noor Construction if you have the chance, you won't regret it!
