Coffee- I ordered Americano and Flat White (used Oat milk) and found the coffee was about weak. Pastries - They were both amazingly delicious. The Chocolate pastry and a sour cherry yoghurt pastry caught my eye and those were both good choices. There were also good food and pastries offering. I grabbed my coffee and let them know I'd be waiting outside. 15 minutes later and I had my food delivered to me in a brown paper bag that was nicely packaged. I got home 15 minutes later to have patatas bravas and damn they were still delicious. I believe all the food there is made at Le St Laurent. Staff and service are really nice and I plan to head back for something more substantial next time. Not only was service and beverage quality great, but last time I was there, my barista shared the narrowest of details in the crafting of my pour-over! On my return, I've enjoyed the perfectly roasted beans I purchased there and done a respectable job of making an above average pour over in my home! The cake was sponge cake and was soft and moist. The cream was airy and fluffy. It was tasty, but a bit pricey for the portion size. I've also tried their Korean macarons ($3.90 each). Korean macarons are like French macarons except there's a lot of filling and it's a thick buttery cream. I'm not a fan of the filling. It's too rich for me. However, if you like these types of macarons these are well made. My overall assessment is that the desserts look pretty, the taste is good, but you're paying more for the aesthetics. The seating and tables weren't being attended to, so there were crumbs at and on every available seating/table combo. The garbage in the seating area was overflowing. Customer service at the cash was cheerful and reasonably efficient. The barrista failed us, as, with only our order, it took a while to receive it. My flat white, which should be smooth with a slightly sweet finish was bitter and acidic. Sigh. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The pastries are as stunning and tasty as at the other location. This location is also quite beautiful with an airy feel. Nice space for a chat. The seating along the window is likely best suited to singles, or under thirty crowd, as, to have a conversation, you either have to put a leg up on the bench or crane your torso and neck. I found it a bit uncomfortable. And since that was just about the only seating left...I'm wondering if others may have had similar experiences. This location is much closer to home for us... maybe I'll keep my Doa fix for when I'm in the west end of the city.

Instead of going for the Old Fashioned Breakfast, I went for the Bastard Benedict, which happened to be two poached eggs smothered in Hollandaise sauce on a sourdough English muffin, with their house salad & a hashbrown. Along with it I had smoked salmon. The mistake I made was that we were there for only a couple of days and by first ordering the Bastard Benedict, there was no way in the world I was going to try anything else in this shortened time. The Bastard Benedict was one of the most memorable food experiences I've ever had. Had I been able to stay longer I would have tried everything on the menu. If the Bastard Coffee House was in Toronto, there'd be line-ups to get in full-time.

Later on, we heard they had run out of eggs. Although it is an interesting place, with an eclectic menu, and it's not next door for us, I would not be in a hurry to go back. I would give it one more chance, though, in a while, hoping they get their staffing issues sorted.
