Friendly staff, quick service, and the coffee tasted fresh. The restaurant was also clean and comfortable.

They serve coffee, tea, sandwiches, salads, pastries and squares. They share their space with The Niche Ottawa Gallery which showcases art from Ottawan artists. The cafe is eclectic and has a cozy community feel to it. I like it. I got 2 sandwiches there. Their sandwiches are actually from Lunchbox (which has a location close by in Orleans and a newly opened one in Hintonburg). I got a BLT and a Chickpea Salad sandwich. Both were very good. I had a bite of each. My dad loved the Chickpea Salad sandwich. He said it was interesting and different from other sandwiches that he's had. It was chickpeas mixed with corn in a mayo sauce with a hint of curry. It had some greens and fresh herbs in it too. The BLT had the usual bacon, lettuce and tomato, but also a special sauce in it, that made it unique. My mom liked the BLT sandwich. What a great discovery! It's off the beaten path, but definitely worth the detour :) Lots of free parking in the strip mall parking lot.

They sell lots of fancy pastries, with the prices to match, lol. I've tried the Lychee Rose cake $11.50. It was served in a round container the size of a small drinking glass. The lychee and Rose flavours were pronounced, but the rose dominated and I would have preferred the reverse. The top had a light sprinkling of tiny real rose petal pieces. The cake was sponge cake and was soft and moist. The cream was airy and fluffy. It was tasty, but a bit pricey for the portion size. I've also tried their Korean macarons ($3.90 each). Korean macarons are like French macarons except there's a lot of filling and it's a thick buttery cream. I'm not a fan of the filling. It's too rich for me. However, if you like these types of macarons these are well made. My overall assessment is that the desserts look pretty, the taste is good, but you're paying more for the aesthetics. Service is courteous and efficient. The cafe is also really pretty inside. Very Instagramble ;) It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking. (25)

I love the first Dao location that opened in Ottawa…read more Maybe I expected too much for this location which is a a 3*, A-OK, in my books. We went on a Saturday around 5p. The seating and tables weren't being attended to, so there were crumbs at and on every available seating/table combo. The garbage in the seating area was overflowing. Customer service at the cash was cheerful and reasonably efficient. The barrista failed us, as, with only our order, it took a while to receive it. My flat white, which should be smooth with a slightly sweet finish was bitter and acidic. Sigh. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The pastries are as stunning and tasty as at the other location. This location is also quite beautiful with an airy feel. Nice space for a chat. The seating along the window is likely best suited to singles, or under thirty crowd, as, to have a conversation, you either have to put a leg up on the bench or crane your torso and neck. I found it a bit uncomfortable. And since that was just about the only seating left...I'm wondering if others may have had similar experiences. This location is much closer to home for us... maybe I'll keep my Doa fix for when I'm in the west end of the city.

I ordered the Passionfruit Latte, which was an intriguing blend of tropical notes that was actually tasted through the strength of the espresso. I liked that even though the drink was simple, the aesthetic was not neglected from the dried citrus garnish to the perfect gradient of the cup. I really enjoyed all the floral decor in the cafe to help beautify it as well. Their brunch menu is massive and full of interesting items that I wish I had more stomach space to try; definitely in a future return! It's a cafe and a flower shop, with flowers everywhere and everything is pink. Very Instagrammable decor. I was served by the loveliest barista. He said it was his 4th day on the job (I was there mid/late December 2023). He made me the tastiest Peaches and Cream Fog (not on the menu, but should be, lol). They use Sloan Teas and the Peaches and Cream flavour is peachy and creamy with a subtle hint of floral. It wasn't too sweet and I loved it. Their croissants are flakey and buttery. Their carrot cake is good too, although the icing is too sweet for my liking. Really cute cafe! Street parking or paid parking lot parking only, which is the norm for places in the Byward Market. I found the decaf Americano had too sour an aftertaste for me, but the orange chocolate chip cookie was good. The Long Version: I've heard of the Ottawa Bike Cafe and have been meaning to try it for some time now and have finally gotten around to it. My husband and I were on one of our "food and drink weekend adventures" where we go to a bunch of places that are new-to-us and get a little something to share at each place. Like a food crawl, lol. Anyway the Ottawa Bike Cafe was one of our stops. We got a medium decaf Americano ($3.70) and an Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie ($4). My husband liked the coffee and he rated it 4/5. He's more of a coffee connoisseur than I am, so his assessment on coffee is likely more trustworthy than mine, lol. I found the coffee bitter with too much of a sour aftertaste, but I'm one of those people who like flavoured syrup in my coffee (whereas my husband thinks flavoured coffee is gross and drinks his coffee black. We got the coffee black by the way). I enjoyed the Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie, although I only had a few small bites as the hubby ate most of it, haha. I liked that the orange flavour was noticeable. It was a nice twist on the traditional chocolate chip cookie. It was a bit too buttery for my preference and a tad too crumbly, but otherwise a pretty good cookie. Service was pleasant. The place was packed. Decor and ambiance I would describe as hipster cool. If you like popular places that are bustling, this is the place to be. I personally like quieter places with fewer people (although sadly this usually means that places I like don't always stick around). Our visit was in March. I imagine that this place is even busier in the summer. It's on the stretch of Sparks Street that is pedestrian only, so great for people watching if you sit by the window or on the patio during the warmer months when they have outdoor seating. Street parking only. Review #54 (2026)
