Especially because it was so cold outside, the Chai latte was probably one of the best if not the best I've ever had. Their croissants are so perfectly flakey, and I especially enjoyed their strawberry croissant. The jam inside was the perfect touch of sweetness. I had such fond memories here that I was craving their latte even on the last day of our Banff trip. It's located inside a beautifully lobby of a hotel, so there's plenty of seating!

I've also had their bacon breakfast sandwich, which was good but a bit greasy. I wish they reheated their baked goods since they didn't taste fresh when we had them -- the ham & cheese croissant and hazelnut chocolate croissant were a bit stale despite getting it in the morning.

The Westin had their own $30+ breakfast buffet. 8:30am Friday, we walk across the street from our Westin Hotel in downtown Calgary, to Tim Hortons, one of more than a dozen Tim Hortons in the downtown area. One of those fast food restaurants with menu on the overhanging billboard, together with pictures. Don't even have to speak English, which can come in handy if you're one of the countless mainland Chinese tourists. Just point to the menu and nod or shake your head when the employee names the item. Only don't point with your middle finger! We see a pair of tourists from our tour group there, and ask for their recommendation. Short line at the counter. I order the hot oatmeal with mixed berries. Wife was going to order that, but I got the last one. She ordered the plain Greek yogurt with granola. That together with a maple syrup coated donut for only $5+ USD. We order tap water, and are probably the first people in a week not to order coffee! Service is instantaneous, and we take our orders back to the table next to the window. The hot oatmeal with mixed berries is heaven sent, delicious. Just what you need on a cold Canadian winter morning. A bit too sweet for the wife. Wife likes her white Greek yogurt with granola. Cold breakfast in Canada? It was 88 degrees in Calgary yesterday September 7. We split the maple syrup coated donut, the first we have tried in Canada, and it is also very fresh and flavorful. We are about to leave, with the line now stretching the entire length of the building. There are about 70 Tim Hortons in Calgary alone and over 3588 Tim Horton fast food restaurants in Canada, or one for every 10,000 residents! Exact number is uncertain as Tim Horton will build up to 500 new restaurants in the coming years!

The first time I went, there was a trainee barista which was very kind and patient but unfortunately they don't do pour overs anymore - when I pressed them about it, the reason was Covid. I'm not sure what covid has to do with anything since it's a pretty easy thing to keep on the side with low operating cost (I have one at home - total cost about $80) I ended up getting the drip coffee which was quite delicious- they were serving an Ethiopian origin coffee which was bright, fruity, floral but quite acidic. The next day I went back and met another barista who was clearly not interested in being there and was making conversation with another customer about how he hated Calgary and wished he never moved here (apparently from vancouver). While I can understand his sentiment being from Calgary myself and then moving away, it's not really a great way to start the day. The negativity was filling the air. He seemed like a knowledgeable enough guy but I don't think I'll go back if he's there. I ended up getting a bag of the Ethiopian coffee and I'll just make it myself when I get home If you're looking for a place to get a great cup of coffee and go, then definitely check this place out but don't expect to leave feeling energized by the environment. 4/5 bc the coffee and donuts are delicious

My server was also super friendly and nice, both were super helpful in providing recommendations to visit in town. 10/10 would come back again for the good vibe, good service, good people, and good drinks!
