What a wonderful little local coffee shop. They roast their own beans and make delightful trendy drinks. And why not support local? The service was excellent and the shop was so clean (in fact they were sweeping and mopping while we were there - not intrusively but taking pride in the place). My girlfriend had a hot chocolate which they made with great care and design. I had a Winter Special with a Juniper berry flavour. Now I hadn't tried that before and they were very good about letting me try the syrup before making my drink. I also loved the cups - no handles but nice and thick to keep your drinks warm! We also split a Raspberry Pistachio Croissant. I totally could have eaten the whole thing on my own it was SO good. The filling was amazing and the pastry was so flaky- a must try. Gorgeous natural light, clean and thoughtful space, wooden stumps, minimalist decoration, wood and plant accents, bare bulb lighting, lovingly crafted drink ware, delicious caffeinated beverages, friendly service. Monogram has it all. I have a friend in Calgary that loves coffee, possibly even more than I. On a trip up to Canada, he suggested we visit Monogram. As per my friend and a friendly barista, I learned that Monogram used to be a pop-up shop and having acquired the small space, is still growing, bit by bit! The space is beautifully lit with natural sunlight and decorated with care. Truly an Instagrammer's delight! I love the space. It reminds me of San Francisco, but much warmer. For a group of four, we ordered two condensed milk lattes and two cappuccinos. The condensed milk latte is unique and delectable, should you be in the mood for something sweet. The cappuccino was aptly strong and delicious. All drinks were enjoyed. The mugs they use have heft and feel heavy and warm and comfortable; my friend has one and she loves hers. They also have small bites, but I did not try them. Monogram sells various coffee goods, including brewing vessels, grinders, small and large mugs, glass keepcups, freshly roasted beans and more. They also have these cool coffee arabica plant kokedamas (see photos). I bought a bag of beans, as I often do when I travel and visit coffee shops that I like and they have fresh beans. A friendly gentleman sporting facial hair and a hat and I spoke a bit on travels and cafes and roasters in San Francisco. I really like being able to talk to coffee enthusiasts and baristas about what's great locally and abroad when I travel. A+ to you, good sir! Stars are for wonderfully friendly service, tasty coffee, a welcoming space, and a variety of goods which I appreciate and would have liked to buy all of but could not. Went on a small bike tour around town with some friends, where I was lead to this little gem. I've driven by dozens of times as it's on my work commute. It's a very hip little coffee shop. No real bells or whistles other than freshly made to order caffeinated beverages ( decaf too). It is so no frills they use the square for card payments. Not many edible offerings. They sell small packets of their own coffee. The baristas are amazing at their craft with the foam designs. The drinks were smooth and overall it was busy but quite quiet and relaxing. Drinks are in the $6.00 range. I tried their honey milk latte. It was great! read more

Service is great. No attitude. Music enjoyable. Clean modern atmosphere. Americano gets only 3 stars. Asked for 1/2 cup + extra shot. Still a bit thin. Doesn't linger on your tongue for a second. Don't feel like I have had a good time with my morning coffee. This is my second visit and I would say the experience has been consistent. I had a pumpkin something slice that didn't leave me wanting more. It was okay, filled the spot but I wouldn't order it again. My sister actually found this place and told me I had to come check it out. The first time I went I wasn't too impressed only because I have a very high standard and what I was served fell far below. However! I went back because, though I wasn't impressed with their steamed drinks, I did like the coffee. They also had some drinks I wanted to try that sounded really interesting. I'm hooked. I've tried their iced coconut latte, matcha latte, and an iced matcha/soda drink (I forget what it's called). The coconut latte was like buttuh, oh man was it good! I was expecting it to be disgustingly sweet but there was no sweetener in it, just espresso and thick, rich, creamy coconut milk. I could bathe in this drink :D The matcha was very good as well, no added sweetener. Delicious. The iced matcha/soda drink was SO GOOD. It was crisp, refreshing, light, lemony and yet still very "matcha-y". Thank you for introducing that into my life! I'll be back for that on a hot summer day. Their beans are also delicious. I often visit this place when I'm in the area and am never disappointed. However I showed up at a busier time on a Saturday afternoon and through an honest mixup I bought an aero press which had a piece missing from it. I called this morning and the gentleman who answered the phone made no fuss about it and told me to swing by and pickup said piece and when I arrived he actually gave me a free set of filters for the press. I see others here saying they frequent this place because of the wifi and proximity to their home, but they're selling this place short on what really matters: the coffee. I'm a certified coffee snob and it's rare that I find a cafe in Canada that doesn't serve that bitter, over roasted tar they've been trained to accept by the Green Monster. Monogram serves a smooth, well balanced cup that preserves all the notes of its origin. The barista who served us was very polite and made eye contact, unlike most of the douche canoe baristas I've encountered in Canadian cities. I go here because it's very close to me. Really it's the wifi that brings me in, but I always get a cappuccino too. The cappuccinos are done well, small cups, not too much foam, etc., with excellent flavor. Their baked goods are very good, for the small selection they tend to have. They are a bit on the pricey side though, but maybe that's just Calgary. It can get very busy, very quickly and there isn't a lot of seating, especially when it's cold out. The space layout is a little wonky too, but it seems to be good for socializing. It does have the best cappuccino that I have ever had. Perfect size and flavor, and the pastries are good. There's a reason it's so popular. What blows me away about the place though, is how popular it is. What I mean is, where are all the people coming from? For 40 years that little strip mall was dead, nothing really stuck, except for the small convenient store. I'm super happy Monogram is there and doing well, I'm just still in awe every time I go and see so many people. Better late than never, I suppose. Oh, they have excellent morning hours of service, even on major holidays they're open for a little bit in the mornings. read more

Cool little cafe, with a slightly awkward setup inside. As you walk in, the sort-of till is in the back, with the space between the table and wall narrowly fitting one person. I say sort-of till, because while the staff hang out there, the orders are put through several floating ipads with the square POS. Kind of confusing when you first walk in, but not a big deal. The menu is also a tiny 3-4 standard paper size... uh papers I think that are hung at chest level across from the weird till area. Kind of hard to see if there's a line. Anyways, slightly weird layout aside, the coffee is quite excellent. No surprise given other reviews, but typically "good" coffee is way too acidic for me. The aeropress'd coffee I had (can't remember the bean details) was pleasantly flavourful, and not super acidic. My friend also recommend trying the almond croissant, and it was certainly a good recommendation. The croissant was delicious. Crispy on the outside, and soft on the outside. The outside has almond slivers, and the inside had some sort of delicious filling. It's quite the heavy snack though. I shared it with my girlfriend, and we were both reasonably satisfied after having one half each. Highly recommended. The reason for only four stars though is due to the service. The service was excellent at first, but after being given the ipad and deciding not to tip after being billed $17 for two coffees and croissant, the girl's smile disappeared and the rest of the time she had this aura of annoyance with us. She didn't even respond when I said 'thank you' as we were leaving. I know some people will think I'm a jerk for this, but oh well. Let's not get into a tipping debate on Yelp :). Overall, quality goods but a tad pricey. More of a once-a-while sort of place. read more

Hello Monogram! You are my new favorite cafe in Calgary. Their Condensed Milk Latte is oh soo good. Their lattes are well done, and packed with flavour. I love that they partner with local bakeries to provide their guests with unique sweets to compliment their unique beverages. They attend to small details like incorporating their branding to their ceramic coffee cups. The only downside of this wonderful cafe is their small venue. This is the only reason I didn't give them their earned 5 stars. Trust me, size does not matter for these guys. They've really maximized the use of their space. Tip: Now that summer is here, I recommend that you walk over two blocks to Altadore Park with your tasty delight in hand, and bask in the glorious view of downtown Calgary while sipping on a warm and wonderful cup of Monogram. read more

Monogram Coffee has upped Calgary's coffee game. This place is in a middle-of-nowhere strip mall with ample parking out front. Don't let it's location deceive you...the coffee here is magnificent and it's probably my favourite coffee place in Calgary. The espresso is divine and the lattes are perfectly poured. Also, there's a great selection of pastries to go with your coffee. It's probably the Asian in me, but my favourite drink is the condensed milk latte. I can't get enough of it! If this place were closer to be, I would definitely be here every day. This place used to be tiny when I first went but it has since expanded and it is much more comfortable to sit and hang out. There are articles highlighting the founders accomplishments and they don't begin to bring the simple, clean lines with a bohemian feel to the space. Super impressed! Monogram just opened their first permanent location (their pop-up shop is at DDaDe) in the Altadore neighbourhood, which is nice and close for me but might be in a weird spot for some people as it's sort of buried in the neighbourhood. It's a pretty small space, with a long communal table down the middle, and the bar in the back. They take your payment with Square (no debit!) and get your name and you're set to go. They've got a pretty good menu of drinks, and my SO and I both tried out a latte, and I had a peach muffin (was pretty good!) and she had a sweet bun (which she also liked). The milk was perfectly steamed and the espresso was pretty mild, altogether, a pretty great latte. I also picked up a bag of the Arnaud Coffee which I proceeded to make using my Aeropress setup at home. Was really nice! A pretty light coffee in which I could definitely taste the Transcend Coffee influence, having lived in Edmonton for a few years. Altogether, a cool spot! I look forward to it settling down so I can come and hang out there with more regularity but I get the feeling it's going to become a neighbourhood staple. read more

When I first visited Monogram's 16th Street location in the fall, it was very tight on space but they were in the process of expanding seating into the next storefront. One of my favorite coffee shops in YYC. The coffee is solid and ALL the baristi are knowledgeable. I'm happy to support the establishment as they provide a beautiful setting and their offerings include vegan and gluten-free options. My only criticism is I find the pricing a bit high- but this is reflective of a bigger issue in YYC where the cost of living is (in my opinion) high for a non-coastal city. A loyalty program would certainly help to lessen that sting and reward your frequent patrons. read more

Really good little coffee joint. Kind of a bit out of the way, and it's a bit small to just hang out there. But if you want to grab a coffee and wander around, it's a great stop. I don't have the scoop on who roasts their beans or if they do that themselves, but I can say the nut milk latte is divine! I am not even dairy intolerant, all I can say it the nut milk here is magic, and it kicks a latte up more than a few notches. For those that are off dairy, whatever magic they use makes a thick and creamy, silky texture that is so much better than store-purchased almond or soy milks. I understand it's made local by some kind of wizards. seriously. try the nutmilk. read more

This tiny space was packed when my bf and I visited on a Saturday early afternoon. Unfortunately there isn't much space to hang out inside, but enough seats for those waiting to pick up their drink order. Instead of having a person at a cashier to take your order and money, we had a young lady ask us what we would like and entered it into her iPad. My bf ordered an Americano, and I changed my order last minute when I heard someone else asking for a flat white. It's the first time I've seen the flat white on a menu in calgary. Monogram's milk was smooth and light, as FW's call for "micro foam". I was very surprised that the espresso is also very mild tasting, which I didn't expect. I notice most coffee shops in Calgary use a very robust, borderline acidic bean. Some may not like this, but for me it was perfect. Monogram also offers a few treats , coffee makers, custom cups with their logo on it, created by someone in Canmore, I believe, and classes, both group and private teaching how to make drinks. Although it's no where close to where I usually am, I'm definitely going to come back to try more of the menu and see how this brand new shop develops over time. Love supporting Calgary businesses! Hands down my favourite cafe in Calgary. Both the downtown and Altadore locations are great and quality is consistent.
