Had a good time at this higher end restaurant in a vibey spot in Guadalajara. Some dishes were good, others were really good and the cocktails were consistently great. Unfortunately the overall meal didn't blow me away and I don't think it was worth the hype it received. If I did come back the steak was my favorite dish cooked to perfection (if you like rare steaks). The pork belly in both its entree preparation and its appetizer preparation was really quite good. The scallops were my favorite starter by far and are a must get! Unfortunately many of the other dishes were just good enough like the tétela, octopus, and duck. "Favorite restaurant in Guadalajara," exclaimed one of our friends about Tikuun. With that endorsement, we went and left disappointed. Here's our experience after dining here on a Monday evening in August around 8 p.m.: 1) Food: The menu skews seafood, but it has a few vegetarian and beef dishes. We ordered the artichoke dish, babaganoush, salad, and beef dishes. The salad and the beef dishes were wins! However, the babaganoush lacked flavor and definitely was NOT proper babaganoush. And the artichoke dish was just okay. 2) Drinks: They have water, soda, beer, and lots of wine in bottles and a few options for glasses. 3) Service: It was pretty bad. They forgot several items on our order, took a long time to bring our food out despite it being almost empty when we ordered, and lacked attention. 4) Space: With one dining room and outdoor balcony/patio seating, it's well decorated and inviting. Came here for a pre wedding celebration with a big family group. We were excited to hear about this place. I ordered a steak and unfortunately, it was just way too raw when I ordered medium, way too much fat and cartilage and I was only able to eat half of it. The ambiance is great though and the rest of the items that we ordered were alright which a few of them exceptional. I would try this place out again but I would order something else just in case it was a fluke of a day. read more

What a neighborhood gem. The ambiance from when we walked in to the welcoming staff. Tiki UN had the most delicious and savory food. The duck was moist and cooked perfectly. The shrimp with the corn absolutely divine. I will definitely return on my next visit to Guadalajara. We love this place and can't wait to come back. From the sweet service to the oh, so delicious food, we can say enough positive things about it. We had a bottle of French rosé and the tuna tartare to begin, and it was the best dish of its kind we've ever had. We then shared the fish of the day and the Thai mole pulpo (octopus) and things got even better. The seafood was extremely fresh and the flavors were interesting, creative and decadent. We had to finish with a dish of chocolate ice cream which was, of course, sinfully delicious. So glad we found this spot. We'll be back again and again. read more

Tikuun doesn't live up to the hype. The issues start with their booking approach--the entire restaurant filled at exactly 7PM (first seating time). There was only one server. As hard as she worked, it just took a long time to get an order placed and then food served from the overwhelmed kitchen. We ordered 5 apps including two specials, all of which were served at the same time despite a request to course them out. The pork belly atop a sopa was a little dry and tough. The duck confit quesadilla was excellent with a delicious mole sauce. The pulpo y queso special was ill-conceived, with the cheese overpowering the octopus--but the accompanying fresh tortillas were excellent. The tuna tiradito was fresh but the sauce didn't have enough acid and the crispy string toppings, while providing textural contrast, were disproportionate. The pesce Aguachile special was fresh with complimentary herbs. The standout was the Birria entree which was fork-spreadable in a rich broth. Not being conversant with Mexican wines we accepted the server's excellent wine recommendations. Overall it was a good, but not exceptional dinner. read more

Simple, adventurous food in an upscale but blessedly unfussy restaurant. I stopped here after a long day of walking around the city, planning to have a quick snack and a drink. The menu promised so much more and I ended up staying a few hours. I tried the octopus and shrimp ceviche. It was dressed with squid ink, tiny tomatoes and paper thin slices of tomatillo. Tostadas were served on the side. It was delicious and the presentation was perfect. I also tried the flautas con conjejo. I wasn't into the idea of eating rabbit but my server, Alma, assured me it was really good. She was right. It was crazy good. The flautas rested in a pool of tomatillo mole and crema, with dehydrated tomatoes, little circles of cabbage, some crumbly, aged farmer cheese and some delicate greens on top. The perfect thing to eat along with a beer (try the Colimita). I also ended up getting dessert as well--a deconstructed brownie thing with choco-peanut praline and guava ice cream and mandarin gel and and and... It was rich but light, a perfect balance of flavors and textures. Honestly the experience was so memorable I didn't need a single photograph to recall every detail. It was a pleasure to write this review. Plus, the service staff was A+. Very attentive and genuine, and I was grateful for their patience with my broken Spanish. This is a lovely little restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. I especially liked the option to order a smaller portion of the entree. That meant I had room for dessert!
