While in Paris for Sven Kirstie's Tiki Pop in Paris show, I had to check out the first Tiki bar in Paris, France. I was not disappointed and the drinks would make Jeff Berry proud.

    Missionary's Downfall & Painkiller

Great music and delicious cocktails! We especially liked the Missionary's Downfall and the Painkiller. Happy hour is a great deal--some cocktails are 6 or 8 euro, which I think is pretty cheap for tiki drinks, especially compared with Dirty Dick in Pigalle, another tiki bar. The music and decor are spot on. I just wish it hadn't been quite so dark so you could see what a cool place it is. Le Tiki Lounge is a nice place to relax and chat without having to fight for a spot. The staff was friendly too. Can't wait to go back!

I went to Paris' first tiki lounge to see what was up. For those of you who haven't been to one, tiki bars are by turns venerable and fun, busy over the top polynesian style bars, often with cheesy decor and bad umbrella laden drinks. The fact that France colonized places like Tahiti makes it a bit of a surprise that noone had thought of opening one before. Anyway, it seemed fun enough, the drinks were cheap at 8€ (some seemingly without alcohol, others fire breath inducing) and the deco was pretty funky and the bartender owners were friendly. I liked it. Not sure I4d go back often though, but I think as it gets a bit of a time worn patina, it could be pretty cool.

Our first set of drinks. I don't remember hers; the farther away of the two is a zombie.

So the little red door has a cute red door but the bouncer lets you in through another door (novelty observed haha). The man takes your jacket and umbrella (what a gentleman!) and sat us on the second floor. While the space between the couch and the seats were rather small, we were able to manage. I got the permaculture and resilience. The resilience is a club favorite and my favorite too! The way the sorghum, pineapple sage (syrup), pasquet cognac, and savanna rum all tied together was a blessing. I was going to get a third but I was tipsy by my second drink. My first drink was the permaculture and while I was considered it would be strong, it didn't seem strong to me. I love clarified dairy in alcohol so this was a win in my book. It consists of chestnut, butter, wakaze umeshu, avallen Calvados. The bar let's you stay for an hour but if you sit elsewhere, you can stay as long as you want. 5 stars and I hope to come back someday!

The bar exudes an old world charm with oak paneled walls adorned with vintage Hemingway photos and memorabilia. They had an impressive lineup of signature cocktails, but in a rare flash of memory from English Lit 101, I felt compelled to channel Hemingway's Jake Barnes in The Sun Also Rises, and chose Champagne instead. As expected the service was flawless. Immediately upon being seated, a young lady brought us olives and mix nuts in a divided dish. The waiter soon followed to take our initial order. Pro tip- They open at 5 pm so get there 10-15 minutes before to stand in line. We got there at 4:45 and there were several people ahead of us. It's a small intimate bar that only seats about 20 something people and it filled up within minutes after we were seated. We saw multiple people getting turned away and when we left, there was a long line at the door. Cheers!!
