I wanted to love this place, I did. Especially when I heard about it through a friend of a friend who was actually flown to Paris to spend 3 months helping David Lynch himself design and execute the space before it opened. So, of course, we simply HAD to go check it out on our trip to Paris. Anything David Lynch is part of, I want to see/experience. However, it did not deliver. Sure it was dark (it's a crazy 4-6 stories below ground), but it is mysterious & chic? Well, given that those with a membership can enter from 6p-11p and enjoy it privately and the public can enter after 11p and the public that lines up beginning at 11p kinda ruins the whole vibe, the answer would be a hard no. We arrived and on one side was a line for the dreaded "bottle service" - those willing to pay hundreds and thousands of €, to sit inside a velvet roped area inside the club, Gross. Strike one. We got into the line on the other side, where the bouncers were acting like it was a cross between Studio 54 and an exclusive rap club. They were hassling locals, making them sweat to get in. Then, when it's our turn, they immediately recognize that we're non-locals and speak English to us. They were actually cordial, but said "Good evening sir - - €25 each!" Ugh, strike two. After descending into the cavernous space, which is actually pretty cool, you quickly realize it very small and the seating is all bottle service/"VIP". Then you also realize the crowd is not the hip, creative cognoscenti of Paris, but rather the Parisian version of frat boys and sorority girls, that have zero interest in art, culture and likely have zero idea who David Lynch is. Strike three. Am I glad I went to see it, sure, but I think we stayed 45 mins tops. Ugh. read more

I've been discriminated against in my own country but never in Paris. We were a group of 5 well dressed. After waiting over 30 mins we were denied entry with no reason but we were too many. We noticed an Asian party of 4 in cue and we observed them in line we watched them get in with no problem. So we hopped in line behind them. That was when the bouncer told us because he said no before we weren't allowed. It was so disappointing to see everyone white and poorly dressed in tshirts and converse get in while we were denied. Do not go here unless you speak fluent French. With hardly anyone inside of the club and no line at the door, we thought we might have a good chance of entering when we arrived at 2300. I was asked a couple of questions by the bouncer at the door and answered as politely and as best as I could with my basic, 4yrs-in-high-school French. Things seemed to be going okay until he asked a question that I didn't quite understand, and I replied 'désolé je ne comprends pas...' Came here on Wed night by myself. It was pretty empty at 11 pm but by 1 am the place got filled in pretty nicely for a Wed night. I really enjoyed the music there! Listened to two DJs and both were great. Awesome, groovy house techno. The interior is simple yet sexy. Great cocktails. A bit pricy though. I had a Dirty Margarita for 18 euros. The crowd was super diverse. On the same dance area, there were both very young college kids and people in 40-s. I would prefer to have more of older crowd but it was still nice. I've been told this place is a real jam on weekends and I believe so. I think it's a 4 star place, but I'm giving it 5 to improve the overall rating. I asked the door man the reason and he said he's not going to let two guys in by themselves (which is to say without women). Right after we were turned away a group of one woman and two men were rejected for the same reason. It actually makes me lose respect for David Lynch to know that he supports this kind of elitism. My husband and I planned a trip to Paris several months in advance and visiting Club Silencio was on the top of my list of things to do. You can imagine our disappointment when we showed up on a Saturday evening (10 minutes before midnight), with absolutely no line whatsoever only to be told by the bouncer that the club is "members only". No sooner did I reply "it isn't members only after midnight" than the bouncer literally turned his back to us so that he no longer had to communicate. The gesture was as if to say we weren't even worthy of an explanation. I inquired before the trip with the owners of club Silencio, and they assured me the club is open to the public (not just members) after midnight. I so had my heart set on visiting this place that I ended up crying on the way back to our airbnb :( Call me bitter, but why weren't we let in? I've heard you must be "worldly" (I'm American, my husband is English and we're both very well-travelled) and fashionable (I know who Camille Bidault Waddington is and I wore an amazing vintage dress I bought in Paris that day!), and work in an artistic field (I work on film sets, my husband is a writer) so what gives? We are in our 20s, we were cordial, well dressed, and polite. Was it because we weren't oozing wealth? Needless to say I'm entirely over it and all that it stands for. After spending the afternoon in the fantastically weird world of Diane Arbus at the major retrospective exhibit at Jeu de Paume (totally recommend), it only made sense to spend the night in the strange and surreal world of David Lynch - but how? I knew one thing about the club, and that was that it was members only but granted non-members entrance after midnight. The rest was a mystery, including whether there was a cover charge, or a dress code, or how many non-members would actually get in on a Saturday night. After searching online and reading several articles about the design, décor and live acts (which i won't go into here because it is covered so extensively by media) we decided to just arrive at midnight and see what happened. I am by no means a club person, let alone a "behind the velvet rope" person, so I was slightly caught off guard by the doorman, who, right as we walked up, stepped outside and told the 8 or so people standing out front that he was very sorry and just doing his job (I assumed we caught the tail end of the news that he wasn't letting anyone else in). Then he noticed my husband and I were new arrivals (it was about 12:30a) and asked where we were from (London, U.S.) and what we did (designer, writer) -- and then nodded and let us in. (I was so caught off guard by even being asked and the implications of our answers that I just blurted mine out.) A very unhappy woman retorted at this "Oh, seriously? My ex-husband is creative director for Dior, is that what matters?" Whoa. What in the hell kind of world were we stepping in to?? I knew this club would probably be overpriced and pretentious, but the door man's questions and the woman's reactions really blew my mind. But we didn't question it and wandered inside, down the dim spiral steps, checked our coats (€2 charge) and got some drinks (€28 for two vodka/soda waters). From what I read, I expected it to be bigger. The "black forest room" was really more of a nook, and the "theatre" was a room just off the bar area, with a step down to small stage (and doubled as a dance floor when the plastic chairs were cleared). We just missed the live act for the night (a magician). There was plenty of diverse seating (not much of it open at the time we arrived) and it was well placed, offering views of comings and goings, the bar, and in areas that were more private. The DJ offered everything from Lykke Li (who apparently had her own show there earlier in the week) to Missy Elliott. The atmosphere was upbeat and the crowd was a mix of sophisticates, art elite, club kids and people who looked like they wandered in after work at their office jobs. As a non-regular (and a very regular looking person) I found no discrimination from bartenders in drink ordering, to my surprise. All in all it was an awesome experience. I can't imagine finding myself there regularly (if I lived in Paris, that is), but as a Lynch fan and for a special occasion I found it to be a fantastic little foray into a bizarre little underworld. Note: We tried for about an hour to get a taxi outside the club (and for a quarter mile in every direction) to no avail and had to walk back to our hotel about 2 miles away). As I descended the dark stairwell, down, down, down beneath the city street toward the lower level entrance door, I felt myself falling hook, line and sinker for this mysterious member's club designed by David Lynch. What did me in? It was so simple and yet so surreal-- the silence that surrounded me as I walked down the stairs, as if I was traveling through a tunnel with just the faint echo of my breath accompanying me. I mean, what a way to enter a club! No shoving, no music, no distraction, just me having this intense experience because of the total silence of the space. I definitely felt like I was being filmed and that at some point in the evening my image would be projected as part of a film-within-a-film not unlike that creepy scene in Lost Highway when Bill Pullman watched that video of himself doing things that he had no recollection ever doing. No doubt about it, Silencio is a true Lynch masterpiece. I was invited to a b-day dinner by a club member on a Sunday night for cocktails, nibbles and piano music and we almost had the place to ourselves. It was amazing being able to run around and explore the various rooms of the club (cinema, fumoir, reading room, bathroom, theater) without having anyone around. It felt like the place was all for us! Apparently that's how members are supposed to feel, like this space is their plush, luxurious, slightly surreal home away from home. For something like 65E a month per couple, it actually seems like a sweet deal, especially since you can attend free concerts, films, and dj sets, while kicking back some of the best cocktails in Paris in hands-down one of the most comfortable, original clubs in the world. read more

Quite simply the best way to spend our last night in Paris, it was magical (without sounding too cheesy). Once you get in (after midnight and initial banter with the bouncer) - it's a beautiful experience, with painstaking attention to every detail - from the furniture to choice of books, to the lighting (make sure to look at your pupils in the bathroom mirror). Lynch's design fingerprint is apparent everywhere you look. The signature cocktails are pricey but a work of art, each drink takes several minutes to create - consisting of many unique ingredients (so don't order a vodka soda - you'll miss out on one of the best parts of Silencio). There's a club in Chicago, called the Violet Hour, which is a similar experience, but both have unique differentiation. It's a modern day speak easy, and we were really happy to be able to be a part of it. read more

It's been a while since I've put on my dancing shoes, and there's no better place to get back into the groove than a place like Silencio - dark, mysterious, and oh so chic. I knew we were in for a memorable night as we descended down into David Lynch's lair. Like the elusive and often daring film auteur, Silencio feels "different" from regular clubs in the states and feels like you're a part of a secret society. The vibe may be a little too cool and exclusive, but once the dance floor starts filling up around 2am, all pretensions and attitudes disappear as American pop and hip-hop stars like Beyonce and Drake dominate. You either like it, or you don't! Personally I think this place is probably the place where I want to be when I go out at night in Paris. Beyond the tasteful beauty of the place, what unlocks the perfect experience is this carefully put together melody that plays throughout the night. During my night there, I really felt welcome. A bit like when I party in NYC, L.A, Miami or Chicago... I felt home, welcomed, and didn't get the impression people where posing, or looking (staring) at each other all night long like people do in many of Paris' nightclubs. Our proudly self designation of "I am Parisian, I like Rien" (read: nothing for rien) doesn't apply in here. People seem to come here to truly party; respectfully and positively melting within the crowed ends up being everyone's attitude towards a globally shared and successful evening. The staff is very polite, nice and respectful; that is truly appreciable even if you are naturally entitled to expect nothing less from such place. We had a fantastic night at Silencio... Entered without invitation nor membership the club without any problem at 12PM. No entrance fee to pay. The club is not a big or posh mega club. It feels cozy with different places to lounge and to chat. Around 1am the crowd, not packed but enough happy people to create a nice atmosphere, started to dance... the music was just perfect... Electronic, dance, disco, funk, and old eighties song, r&b... the sound was great and not painfully loud. We will definitely go back next time we're in Paris! read more

Ok, probably the worst experience I had. First of all do not believe in any emails that they send you claiming that the club is open for non members after midnight, don't waste your time, many members here were turned down after they received same email I did. And here's what they are going to tell you: "it's a misunderstanding, and we will fix that" well based on the other member who was in the same case you will understand that this misunderstanding been going on for a while. Basically they tell everyone that, and they chose who they want to let in. I was not only turned down but called names by the bouncer, and decided to just leave without getting humiliated any further. I wonder how Mr. David Lynch associates himself with this type of a place, he is bright and have clean name, specifically after I've been in his lectures on TM, I am very disappointed So on the nutshell, do not expect to be treated with an ounce of respect if you are not a member, you will be humiliated and sent back home like a nobody. I was invited to Silencio by Parisenne friends during fashion week. The decor was very dark and trendy and the music was so so on this particular night. The club was packed to the hilt and you could barely see where you were stepping. My friends and I immediatley started searching for the nearest emergency exit signs as a precaution and when I walked closer to inspect the nearest exit sign it was directing you to go in the opposite direction to exit. This is very misleading and an extreme hazard. A few of my friends left because it was too crowded to enjoy themselves. Eventually I was invited to sit at a small table with two of my girlfriends. At this point I do have to mention that we are all Black, as I think what happened next was due to blatant racism. The two gentleman left their table but invited us to finish their remaining vodka. Before I could consume one drink, an angry and very rude cocktail waitress/employee demanded that my friends and I get up from the table immediately as it was reserved for another party. We verbally acknowledged her demand but I wanted to take a picture with my friends before we had to battle our way through the jammed club. The irate waitress snatched my phone out of my hand as I was taking a picture and did not give it back to me until we left the table. We all know that this would never happen in America and she would never have snatched a phone from a man or a white person. Needless to say, I did engage in a physical confrontation with this miserable woman as I was attempting to make my way out of the club before seecurity escorted me out. Not only Blacks and Americans should avoid this club at all costs but anyone who values their safety should stay way as the club layout is poorly designed in the event of an emergency. Silencio is a great experience. Visually and acoustically amazing. The walls are designed like the walls of a high end recording studio and it is very obvious in the sound quality. This place sounds very good and the music choices are excellent and fit the theme of this very unique space. I really like Silencio. The staff are incredibly courteous and well mannered and the bartenders are true artists. Watching them make drinks is like watching a beverage ballet before you eyes. I'm not a smoker, but if you smoke they have a special smoking room with what looks like artificial vines coming down through the space that hold small tables with ashtrays and places for your drinks. If you don't there are several areas that will appeal to you. I went the first night with two friends from Paris and we had a wonderful time. You have to realize that in Paris clubs don't get going until around 11:30pm and last for quite a while after that. We stayed until 5am and Silencio was still going when we left. Went back the second night, this time on my own, and Silencio was just as special . The crowd is eclectic and amazingly creative, yet you feel right at home instantly. Silencio is a magical place that is not to be missed. PS: Silencio is a private club and does require a membership to enter or you have to be the guest of a member. The negative reviews here were mostly posted by folks that don't agree with this so they have never been inside and don't really know what it's like. Silencio discriminates, even if you are invited by a member... I am the only black person of my team. Surprisingly, I am the only one who: 1. had to spell my name and the name of the member I was joining. (yeah like in spelling contests for kids) 2. had to insist and beg saying that I was joining my CEO and my boss. And Again spell their name... This is fucking ridiculous and humiliating specially when you end up saying this to your team and they all tell you that none of this has happened to them. Guess what: I think I was too black! Awesome mixology... they prepare your drinks with so much attention to detail and fresh ingredients... I felt like I must sip my drinks very slowly as it took so much effort to make them Lol. If you are an American, don't bother. We went on a Tuesday evening and were dressed as well as or better than those entering the club. Other reviews reference physical appearance as well but that wasn't an issue with our group. There was no line and we arrived after midnight. The door guy initially told us that there was a private concert and non members were not permitted. Once my friend arrived (who spoke French) she inquired and was advised that wasn't the case but that the door guy didn't like Americans. From there his rudeness only increased. Thankfully everyone else we encountered on our Paris vacation was lovely but it is people like this pitiful door guy that perpetuate the stereotype. As a huge fan of David Lynch, I was looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere he created. I wish I wouldn't have bothered.
