Off the dock in the harbor.

It truly pains me to give such a low star rating as our hosts were wonderful and quite funny, but I can't in good conscience recommend the Tidewater very highly for many reasons... Let's start with being charged twice for the rooms in a mix-up that arose from the manager not communicating with the employee who checked us out. Then, let's move on to the rooms (14-16) which are underneath a (not-at-all-padded) stairwell. So when the adventure-club-yeah-dudes gathered for breakfast at the top of said stairs at 5AM - their heavy steps, high fives and "Yeah, bro's!" had me awake for the better part of the morning. It is LOUD everywhere - walls/floors are paper-like. Next stop: the Internet bus was broken down and in flames on the side of the superhighway, people. It worked for 3 hours (ONLY) out of 4 entire days. So yeah, notsomuch... The furniture is in similar disrepair, though being a charming New England shantytown, they can get away with the "decrepit-shabby-chic-by-way-of-the-fleamarket-down-the-street" aesthetic as far as I'm concerned - as long as it stays clean (and it was.) The plus column: right near the (only) store and restaurants. Beautiful views (see my pix). Bagels and coffee. A hilariously grumpy innkeeper, bikes and kayaks to rent, a fair number of TV channels, (tho you have to watch it on an 11" screen from the 80's...) but dude, you're in one of the most majestic landscapes on this EARTH, so why the hell are you watching TV!? GO FOR A WALK or at least read a book... Come on, y'all. In summary, the endearing lack of skills at maintaining a motel is exactly why you go to a place like Vinalhaven - I don't want a friggin W Hotel here, EVER. That said, for $200 a night, off season, I at least expect quiet and working Internet - is that so much to ask...? Please stay grumpy and irreverent - it works, just get the charm to work for you instead of against. You can rent houses here for probably a lot cheaper, I would do that if you can... I'm just sayin.

We enjoyed our stay. Close to everything. Clean. We could hear and see the water and the owner was great. Highly recommend.

It is a cozy place to hang out- we rented rms 14 and 16 and shared a giant deck overlooking the harbor.

We booked a room at this hotel and went to check in and asked for room change after seeing the…read moreroom. The person at the front desk named Jeremy was extremely rude and we ended up leaving the hotel without staying. Daniel (the other person at the front desk) was nice and much more pleasant to deal with. We do not recommend this hotel as we find the attitude in general being too rude (it is not only the north east attitude, we lived in the northeast for decades. This was way worse). Again though, thanks Daniel for being nice and helping us with our refund. For Jeremy: learn a thing or two about customer relations.

I love a cool boutique hotel--when I can afford them! Taking advantage of off-season prices, I…read morechose 250 Main when I headed up to Rockland for a long weekend toward the end of March. It ended up being one where we had a pretty big storm, and that actually made this hotel an even better place to stay. Basics: great location right downtown (if you look at the map and it looks like it's a bit out of the downtown range, it's not; this is a small town and you can walk from 250 Main to the heart of it within 5 minutes). The hotel itself doesn't have parking, but there's street parking or you can park free in the harbor lot across the street (you may want to check this if you're coming during high season). The welcome vibe is immediately evident not only from the super nice and helpful staff, but because check-in time is also when 250 Main starts its happy hour wine social downstairs, which is perfect! And if you reserve directly with the hotel, you get a complimentary glass of vino. I literally met friendly people from the minute I checked in, and we hung out with a glass of wine for awhile before heading out. You can purchase from a small menu of wine and beer until around midnight, which turned out to be a great thing when the storm rolled in the next night of my stay. With the warm and relaxed vibe, hanging out in the lobby area is part of the experience. My room was a queen room with a small balcony overlooking the harbor--which on their website is described as "small," but it definitely is not! Fantastically comfortable bed (which honestly seemed larger than my own queen at home); big bathroom with an awesome rain shower, heated towel racks, and robes; plenty of space to move around in the room itself, which also had a desk and a little sitting area. Oh, and super high ceilings and HUGE windows. While I neglected to get a pic *inside* the actual room [insert facepalm here], check out the cool views of the snowstorm from the windows and balcony. If you don't want to venture out for breakfast in the morning, there are light options available (croissants, yogurt, fruit, etc.)--with delicious coffee from local Rock City Coffee. Huge points too for keeping a coffee and tea station open in the lobby all day and night. With the term "boutique" being tossed around these days willy-nilly, I'm always thrilled to find a place that lives up to it. 250 Main is definitely worth the splurge!

We actually were able to get a wifi and sporadic 3g signal from out on the patio there. In the morning, we sat out in the chairs just outside our door and listened to the lighthouse foghorn off in the distance and the low rumble of the early morning fishing boats humming around the cove. Our room also had a television and was very spacious for our family of four (I had my two young children with me). Suzen is simply delightful. She truly enjoys cooking, and has taken it upon herself to fix up this place after it was in rough shape before she took it over. She's done a remarkable job. If you're looking for the Ritz, this may not be your place. This is Maine at it's core. Rugged, rustic, beautiful and raw. This is a place we hope to return to every summer.

Granted you need to hope for good weather, but my cousin was a very lucky lady in late September. I liked how big the property was - plenty of room for people to spread out, enjoy their food, or be on the dance floor. The sunset over the water was epic! We even saw bald eagles flying & fishing off shore. This location is so picturesque (heck even the bathroom was cute for selfies). The bride and her parents were blown away by the overnight accommodations too! I saw pics with the view of the infinity pool. Staff was wonderful, everything was spotless clean, and best of all the crowd & bride and groom had an awesome time!

The grounds, gardens are stunning. Infinity pool is so inviting. So why the rating of a 4? Well for the price of the room I would expect a coffee maker in the room. I did ask and the staff, oh so accommodating, gave me a French Press set up. Good thing I was familiar with it. So I suggest and did suggest they have coffee makers in the rooms. Otherwise you'll need to wait till they serve breakfast at 7:30a. Ladies don't expect a makeup mirror in the bathroom, there isn't one. It's the little things that make your stay. Otherwise, a lovely facility and the staff couldn't be friendlier. Breakfast was delicious.
