Well, thank those who created and founded this parkway. I haven't read the other reviews but finding like a place to park and walk is a pain in the ass. I gave up and parked on lathrop road where it's intersecting the Tidewater Trail and theres a traffic light that has that trail name. that's the only traffic is the possibility of pedestrians and maybe a parked car(s) in this ditch or something whatever it's called but i didn't want to park there because of this private property sign. I parked on the side of the road (close to the intersection) where the cavalry community church food distribution center is; the opposing side has no parking any time signs, and so does the side that I parked BUT on the left of this church entrance which is like a half a mile or so down. And actually there was a car parked already too. I want to say it should be fine where I parked. I left about 8 and it was still parked there. Anywho, I was Walking my small dog on a leash, and got onto the trail. It's funny because i see this trail almost everywhere on some streets seeing the tidewater bike trail arrow signs. Finally, I walked on it. There are other people walking and also on bikes. There are posted signs with guidelines at each street intersection. There are dog walkers too and yes there leashed and big ass pit bulls where wanting to get near my small dog growling; I walked on the opposite side and I'd be sure to glance back here and there, and keep your headphones volume low just in case. I came across a park called northgate park and there's a walkway "bike trail ends" which leads into the park. And I seen a softball game with kids, cheering and applauding and a few spectators on the trail also. It's pretty recreational and I just may choose this park next to just go on the trail. Anyhow I continued walking and this goes a long, long long way, 7 miles!! And I only walked just 3 miles one way and walked back to my parked car. This is indeed a bike trail, and I'd want to get a bike soon. And there's low star reviews on here complaining that the trail/road isn't good enough For their skates or skateboard. Pshhh gimme a break. There's a small skate park for that, which is also on the trail too. Trail isnt hard to miss, just look for arrow signs at each intersection when crossing the street. I'm looking forward to more of my future walks here. ...........damn 24 hourfitness had to close which I only had membership so this is how I exercise. read more

Tidewater Bikeway is a North to South oriented paved Bicycle Path located almost in the center of Manteca. IMO, Tidewater Bikeway is an inappropriate name for this Walking / Jogging Path. The paved Bikeway extends from the center of the city at the NorthWest corner of Wilson Park to the northern part of the city at around the 700 block of Lathrop Road, probably a total of less than four miles. The Southern part of the Pathway is at Moffat Road. The Pathway parallels Moffat Road for about two miles down to Spreckles Avenue. The route is really not challenging enough to classify it for someone with wheels would use, whether it be Skates or Bicycles... it's just too short a route, and there are mandatory stops at all major intersections. And that break from Center to Moffat... you can literally get lost! At every major intersection there are Pedestrian Push Buttons that control the operation of Traffic Lights. Water - There are Drinking Fountains, usually located at the South side of the intersection of every cross street - sized both for kids and adults. I usually fill up my water bottle at the Lathrop Road drinking fountain before riding back to Lodi. Rest Stops - There are benches to sit on, located intermittently at the side of the paved Bikeway for those that need to rest up. The intersections also provide a minute's pause before continuing on... Safety - I've biked the Bikeway every time I've ridden my Bicycle to Manteca and unlike most Parks which are just magnets to transients and the like, the only people I've seen are actual Walkers, Joggers, or Bicyclists. Even though I've never been there at night, the Bikeway seems to be lit at night with the numerous Light Poles that line the Bikeway. At the center of the Bikeway Path, about ten feet West of the Path itself, is a Phone which is encased in bright Yellow plastic attached to a pole which can be used for Emergencies - unfortunately, there's only one... and you have to know where it is... Convenience - A user can get off the path at any of the major intersections to get to Main Street within just a few blocks East. And there's many Parks and Baseball Fields within a few steps of the Bikeway. The Path, itself, is only ten feet wide, but the path is directly in the center of a strip of land about 20-30 yards wide that is essentially a narrow Park. It is immaculately landscaped and maintained... every time I rode through the Bikeway, it's been clean as a whistle. But not very many people use it, it seems. ***** - Joggers, Walkers *** - Bicyclists, Skaters - despite my criticism, though, I've used the Bikeway every time I've ridden to Manteca... maybe it's not so bad after all... Update: 07-30-2010 This year, I've noticed that there's evidence of Budget cutbacks in Manteca that results in reduced maintenance of the Bikeway... extensive weed and grass growth, reduced watering of the lawn portion of the Bikeway, and evidence of burrowing mammals taking over certain parts of the Bikeway. But the citizenry of Manteca in certain portions of the Bikeway, especially in portions that is adjoining to a residence backyard, the residents have used their own water supply to hydrate the lawn area! I normally bike from Lathrop road to middle of town and back, never saw a problem on this trail. there are stops for water and benches to sit. theres a couple of emergency phones, I've seen volunteers patrol this trail during the day. Closes at dusk read more

I've been seeing this trail as I drove on Lathrop Road and Louise Avenue, but I'd never been able to try it, since I was at a motel where it wasn't really conducive to walk. Being blocks from downtown, I walked over to the trail at the end near Center and Elm Streets. I couldn't tell whether it goes further south or not. I'd love to see it connected to other trails throughout the county, the way trails in Seminole County, Florida are connected. I walked it up to Louise Avenue, where there was a water fountain. What I didn't notice was any place to park a car, which means to me that a lot of people won't use it. (I was always amazed in Florida that so many people would dress in expensive athletic gear, and drive to a trail to show off, rather than ride the one or two miles to the trail. I suspect they didn't want to sweat.) I have no idea what the rules are because those signs were vandalized. (I was surprised by the Manteca Skate Park, along the way, and its rules, though. The Rules seem to be part of the reason it is so underutilized, though it didn't seem to be enforced.) I was also surprised to find a maintenance truck along the way, along with an industrial lawn mower. What stops people from driving on the Bikeway? There are no barriers, collapsible or otherwise. I guess overall, it's a good resource, especially for people who live along the way. Until it connects to similar trails, it seems to me to be a plan not finished. read more

Path is degrading. Only good for biking, running, or walking. You cannot skate or board down this path even on the softest wheels.

Great place to ride, walk a dog or jog! It's very clean and well maintained! Some other reviews mentioned the homeless in the area, But I've only noticed them in the downtown area of the path. The rest of Tidewater Bikeway has nothing to offer them... It's mostly used by friendly neighbors getting exercise! Enjoy! read more

We have been looking for good place to cycle with our granddaughter and this place fits the bill no cars to contend with it's a path that runs north to south from Lathrop rd trough downtown.we parked at the library downtown and theres a security gaurd there and we liked that we went north passing a skate park that had some kids and or teens saw a base ball field a little further up the path with a good sized playground and a surrounding park that was nice although there was some undesirables (rough kids ) there .so we moved on headed back down to the library where there is another small park also occupied by more undesirables (vagrants) when they started throwing I knife at a tree it was time to go All in all the bike path is great with no vehicles allowed it's too bad that there are too many homeless wandering around the downtown area making it uncomfortable for families I actually did not know that was present in Manteca but my guess is it's vertically everywhere So five stars for what the path is supposed to be zero stars for all the bums and hobos hanging around And I would have liked to see a police presence there but didn't see any police on my entire visit so not exactly sure how safe it is crime wise read more

My kids and hubby and I love to bike this trail on nice sunny days!! It's so convenient to our neighborhood and takes us safely all the way across town to the library or to have lunch in no time. It's nice to have such a beautiful trail in our little city of Manteca! read more

The city of Manteca built this bikeway on the old right of way that belonged to the Tidewater railroad, thus the name. It is a great place to walk on a summer evening when it starts to cool off. I have noticed the the number of users dramatically increases on the day after a long hot spell ends. The part that I frequent is well maintained and a down right pretty place to walk. read more

A great bike path (not great for skateboards or rollerblades) used by all walks of life from school kids in the morning to the elderly and bikers during the day, the homeless congregate in the library area and surrounding trail section so if you have a problem with them just steer away from that area, they don't really bother anybody unless you complain to them or stare at them read more

It offered a nice walk on a paved and level ground. It doesn't have very much shade given that the trees are more in the grassy areas so in the summer its too hot unless you attemot very early or late evening. There is no place to park, so we parked in a nearby neighborhood and walked over. This trail is nice, but it does start to get into a homeless area which was uncomfortable so we didn't do the whole thing, but a good amount still. read more

This trail is a gem of Manteca. It passes downtown, the library, several park spaces, and drops off near the Bean&Leaf cafe. We are fortunate to have such a space. My only complaint is that it is underused. read more
