What I love about this park is the non bark/sandy area! So easy to take my 1 to and she can't put anything in her mouth because the ground is made of that rubber bouncy material. There's a toddler play area, and then a bigger kids one. Clean tables, with plenty of trash cans. There are no bathrooms the only negative. This is the biggest general park in Ripon. It is a pretty large scale park with an upper and a…read morelower area. The upper area has 4 horseshoe pits and bocce ball courts. There is a small kids playground by these courts. Another part of the upper area consists of a large lawn area, which is plenty big for several different sports. There are two baseball diamonds and a medium size playground. The bathrooms are located by the baseball diamonds. Near this area is also a butterfly garden. When you walk to the lower area, there is a large gazebo which is nice for parties. There are two volleyball courts that consist of sand. The remaining area is fairly large and consist of lawn. The park parallels the Stanislaus river and there are several access points to enjoy the water. This park can get fairly busy on the weekends.

When the water is low it only comes up to your knees in most places and deep areas up to your waist. This part of the river is mostly sandy instead of rocky. The city keeps the park well maintained and there appears to a community center along with public restrooms, a butterfly garden, a large gazebo area and a volleyball area. Went on Labor Day and was surprised there were no crowds, especially since there is no entrance fee. You can either park in the park and walk to the river or you can park in a city parking area with paved trails leading towards the river. No BBQ grills or tables near the river but they do have lots of garbage bins so bring your dog, camp chairs and a picnic basket and soak in the natural beauty.

The other park in town with a large splash pad area is large enough that I felt the need to follow my kiddos around. The picnic areas here are way nicer because they have good established shade. And, for potty training parents - the bathrooms are literally right there. Across the large flat field (perfect if you want to play soccer) there was adult exercise equipment, basketball courts, and tennis courts. They even had a handicap swing and one of those cool ones for both baby and an older rider, that face eachother. 10/10 reccomend this park! As we got into early afternoon, the park got super busy and there were lots of rough older kids. We decided that the crowd was getting a little too rough for our littles so we decided it was time to go. I would say that if you have toddlers, morning hours are best before it gets super crowded.

This is a pretty new park even though it's been open a few years but I would say it's a better park…read morethan any other Lathrop park. It's near an elementary school but not as close with a whole grass field between. The pathway that's between the school and park is wide and shady, filled with places to sit, workout and eat. There is a restroom at the park and on the Slate Street side closer to the school. The water splash pads runs continuously during the day in the summer because the water is recycled and filtered. They have city workers that check up the area regularly. I see them in the mornings when I go for a walk sometimes. They added a new pergola type area next to the tennis courts. More tables to enjoy and a bbq pit I believe The parking is pretty much street parking but it seems that a lot of the visitors are from the area so they most likely walk to it. Ice cream trucks, well vans come by and sometimes the school would invite Kona Ice usually on Wednesdays sometimes. Kona would usually be on the Slate Street side FYI

However, through the years, the neglect of this park is starting to show dramatically. Roads are torn up, overgrown trees oftentimes scratch RVs and way too many stray cats. Our last two visits with friends were ruined due to faulty electrical equipment but worst of all sewage backup into the camp site. This is unacceptable but more importantly, pretty sure the health department would find this to be in several violations. We would be so disappointed to have to stop coming here but these issues are happening at different sites, not sure we want to be part of a crap shoot. SJ Parks department, please do better for your customers. UPDATE: Someone came and sprayed the area. All he accomplished was to spread the sewage leak to a bigger area of the campsite. EWWWWW
