Went there for new years eve. The experience was underwhelming. There was nothing that would indicate there was a new year coming, except for the menu itself. The food was okay, not amazing, the ambiance was meh, we didn't really feel any particular effort to make this an enjoyable new years eve, except for our waiter who was fantastic. We had read great things about the restaurant and that it's "not just for tourists" so wanted to try it out, but very much did not meet our expectations. We had a 7pm reservation and were seated right away at a nice table outdoors, with a beautiful view of the water, and next to a heat lamp which was nice. We then sat at our table for 20 minutes while not one server came over to our table. There were at least 2 busboys that were standing around the bar and definitely saw us sitting there but no one was sent over. We finally waved down a waitress and she went and got our waitress. When our waitress finally came over to the table there was no apology about the wait. The food was fine, but definitely not worth $50/person + 5% surcharge. The tortilla soup was the best part of the meal, very tasty. The soup and chips and salsa say "served upon arrival", however we received ours 30 minutes after arrival. The fish was fine. A weekend at Paradise Point Resort was just another part of my birthday present from my girlfriend. She encouraged me to find a nice restaurant and make a reservation for us - and this is how I found Tidal. We arrived about 35 minutes ahead of our reservation and we decided to take advantage of the last few moments of happy hour. I ordered a glass of wine and she ordered a margarita on the rocks. The bartenders were great and he offered me a sample of the wine before ordering. At 6:30 PM promptly, the hostess kindly approached us and informed us that our table was now ready. We were seated at the best table on their patio - overlooking the water from both sides and with a direct view of the beautiful sunset. The company , the celebrations, The service, our server, the ambience, the setting, and the food was beyond excellence! I started off dinner with a second glass of wine along with another margarita for my girl . We ordered a Caesar salad, octopus and fresh Hawaiian rolls appetizer. For dinner, I ordered the 8 ounce filet mignon and she ordered the scallops. This was by far one of the best dinners that I've ever had. Everything about our night was perfect. Awesome view, service, and dinner! Came here for our anniversary and easily made reservations online specifying it was for our anniversary. Easily found parking despite the crowd (Saturday has weddings and lots of families in the area) and were seated promptly at 7pm. We had a beautiful corner spot and the whole deck overlooks the bay. Absolutely gorgeous for sunset! Our server Logan was awesome and the staff was highly attentive all night to make it special. The food is a little pricey but worth the money as it is fresh, perfectly portioned, and delicious. The Hawaiian rolls are what you expect but it is the guava jam and pineapple butter thing that is delicious. I wish I could package it and take it home for breakfast. LOVED the scallops and the salmon my husband ordered was delicious as well. They even brought us a special dessert that wished us a happy anniversary at the end which truly captured the end of the night! Although we were stuffed, we couldn't pass on the sweet gesture. Super cute place. Apparently they went through a total renovation and it used to look completely different. My friend had her wedding dinner reception here and we got to hang out in the lounge area while they took pictures. As we were waiting we decided to get some beverages. It was happy hour after all. The bartender suggested the monkey see monkey do drink since I wanted something a bit sweeter. The drink was amazing! Honey, bananas, rum, etc...and I couldn't even taste the alcohol which might have been a bad or good thing depending how you look at it. The food was decent. Not the best but definitely not the worst. I'm not sure what the price per entree was so it hard for me to say was it worth it money wise. We had appetizers (cheese board and chicken liver mousse nom nom), either a salad or soup, entree and dessert which was definitely enough food. The ambiance is nice. Despite my reservation weeks ago, and my telephone confirmation a day in advance, my requested and CONFIRMED inside window table was given to another party. As it turned out, as there was a large party with two screaming babies at a nearby table, I would have then requested to sit outside, as the actual dining area in the restaurant is quite small & limited. 2. Our outdoors table upon seating was NOT clean. There was a film of sand and salt (from the mositure likely) on the table, bread plates, and napkin setup. Likely there was the same film of sand on the chairs, but we didn't notice. 3. Bread service requires an order, for either 3 rolls, or 6 rolls. What's the point of putting bread plates on the table if you don't provide bread, NOR inform the diners that it's a la carte??? 5. Two main meals were completely oversalted, and boring. I truly felt like sending my sea bass in broth back it was so salty (but after such a long wait to get it I didn't want to further disrupt the flow at the table). 6. Refilling of water by the server was erratic, and haphazard. He would fill one diner's glass, and not others at the table. Why not? Lazy? 7. On another occassion, a server interrupted our dinner conversation to inquire if I wanted my water glass refilled!! How inconsiderate and unprofessional...just fill it!!! Just had a really nice evening here. We came earlier in the day and I have to say the guy behind the bar was a little attitudey and could have been more helpful with drink selections (3 stars for that experience), but our server for the evening meal made up for him big time! Kennedy was friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was delicious, especially the bread with beet hummus and blood orange butter...mmm! My father and I had the salmon wellington and the fish in a bag and both were cooked to perfection with a nice flavor. Nothing too heavy. Great dessert menu too! Tidal at Paradise Point has had mixed reviews-give it a try! The hostess Kaitlin was helpful in confirming our reservation . My family enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night as the sun set. Our server, Julia, was professional and provided excellent suggestions on the menu. I had the scallops which were excellent. My daughter works at a high end steak restaurant and was impressed with her Wagu Burger. The kimchi fried rice, one served with crab and the other with duck were fabulous. So disappointed. We are currently staying at the Paradise Point. Today was our last day. Yesterday being our first day here we made reservations at the Tidal restaurant, which looked like a fancy place to eat with beautiful views of the beach and sunset. I don't want to spend much of my time writing about this restaurant so I will get straight to the point. I had been craving steak all day. Delicious, Med rare(more on the rare side) red meat. The "40OZ} ALAEA SALT CRUSTED TOMAHAWK STEAK $110.00" was what I had my eye on. I 'assumed' that it being $110 there was NO WAY it would be anything but melt in your mouth, fresh, and of course delicious. At first appearance it looked soooo good. Then I took the first bite. I literally felt like crying. I had NVER in my life first off paid $110 for meat let alone it being the most dry and chewy meat I have ever ate. Me feeling bad that my husband spent that amount, I ate half of it, he barely had two bites. It was literally taken out of the freezer and place on the grill. That's what it taste like. I would chew each piece for 10mins and spit the rest out in my napkin. It was just horrible. I mean if your going to charge us that much for meat, please let it be quality, fresh and tender. I will NEVER return to this restaurant while I stay i this resort. The service was just ok. Ps: I should have asked the waiter to taken it back the moment I put that first piece in my mouth. Just skip it. My husband and I were staying at the resort for a few nights for a wedding, and decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. The restaurant is gorgeous and had a great atmosphere. We were seated on the patio and enjoyed the glorious weather. The patio overlooks mission bay but since it was 7:30 at night we didn't get to reap the visual benefits. Our server, while friendly, was either new/nervous/or just not informed. Perhaps a combination of all three. I did appreciate that he let me try a sample of the two wines I was debating on ordering. Nice touch. He forgot the nightly specials and had a hard time answering some of our menu questions. The food was a big disappointment for me. Incredibly overpriced, bland and itty bitty portions. The best part of the meal were the mashed potatos; that's not good. Desert although good was miscommunicated by our server. Note, the coconut in the chocolate cake is not in the frosting/glaze and sutle, it is baked into the cake and very prominent. We were told the opposite. $200 later we made it back to our room and ate some snacks. I read somewhere this was rated a top San Diego restaurant; there is just no way!! read more

We came here as we are staying in the resort, which is lovely, and it was my husband's 50th birthday. We wanted a special dinner. Also, the menu had "gf" next to multiple items, so I hoped it would be a safe meal for my girls with celiac disease. The server was not very focused, but thankfully the manager was paying attention after we ordered some gluten free items from the menu. He came to check about the severity of the issue, and celiac means no cross-contact, so it is pretty severe. He told me their fries were cooked in a shared fryer, which meant they are not safe for the kids. He told me they had "just" installed a new fryer that was shared, so the reviews I read about a dedicated frier no longer apply. Since this is a very high-end restaurant, I was pretty disappointed about what to order for the kids. Their children's menu is all gluten so I was forced to order from the adult menu, and was worried that without fries, there wouldn't be much filling-them-up for the price. The manager got creative and offered to fry they fries in a pan with oil. We thought that was fun, and very nice, so we accepted. The kids LOVED the fries (I thought they were burnt around edges and taste pretty different, but was glad the kids loved them). We were there towards the end of the night and all the delays with the server, and discussing food with manager and chef, left us at the tail end of the shift for the server. You could really tell, as she pretty much ignored us, did not fill our water or check if we needed more cocktails (I did!), and I ended up walking across the place and ordering from the bar directly. Having been a server and bartender for a long time, I do get frustrated at bad service, especially in fine dining. The server obviously was making friends or already friends with a table across the room, and she may have been a little tipsy, but there's no excuse to ignore a family dining on a very special occasion, especially when the table is ordering alcohol, because that pads the tip ratio. The place is very pretty and right on the water, by the marina. The potential for an amazing meal certainly exists... But it did not come all together for us that night. We ordered a rib eye for the girls to share, and they absolutely loved it, steak is their fave. I ordered a chef special item and it was very good. My husband ordered off the regular menu and enjoyed his food, but not as good as one could hope. I feel like the menu is trying to hard, as they are really pushing a fusion aspect that borders on WTF. Outside of the weird fusion options (Kimchi omelet?) the rest of the menu was limited. The prices were VERY high. I am not afraid of a pricey menu and have eaten at some of the best restaurants in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and anywhere I travel, but for the price, and especially in a major foodie city like SD, I expect greatness. I was left wishing we had just Ubered to a better restaurant in the city proper instead of walking over to this restaurant on site. My wife and I were married 18 years ago at Paradise Point on Mission Bay. We love to just go there and walk around the bay, usually mid-week, and eat at the Barefoot Bar & Grill. Last night, we joined 2 of our friends for a meal at Tidal, what we thought would be a more upscale dinning experience. I made reservations through Open Table for 4 at 5:30. Upon our arrival, we were asked if we wanted an inside or outside table. We requested outside and after too much time looking at the computer screen and a consult with a manager or assistant manager, we were told by the hostess there were no outside tables available. Looking outside, all but a few of the outside tables were empty. When we left after our meal, most of the outside tables were occupied, however, there were plenty still empty. Unfortunately, the inside dinning experience was not pleasant, with poor acoustics amplifying the loud crowd noise inside preventing a normal conversation with our friends. A lot "what did you say" and leaning in to hear what was being said at our table. Additionally, you could not hear the live music outside, which was one of the reasons we chose this restaurant in the first place. Now for the food. The menu is designed for a one price per person for a set menu. Depending on which night you choose to dine you will have entre choices while the salad, starts/appetizer, and dessert will all be set for a set $46 per person. We dined on a Wednesday which is essentially afforded us a choice from 2 fish (fish & chips or scallops), 2 meat (pork or beef) and, a vegetarian pot pie dish. Three of us had the fish & chips, which was a Dover Sole breaded with a potato batter. Don't expect chips (fries) as the batter double as the chips for this entre'. The consensus was the fish & chips were okay and that the potato batter, while an interesting concept replacing the chips, fell short with a rather bland flavor. The scallops were also just okay, with a tasty chorizo puree, however, make sure you eat plenty of the starters and salad, because you only get 3 medium-sized scallops on an oversized plate. In other words, this dish was long on presentation and short on satisfaction. The STARTS for this menu were also not very satisfying. The Shrimp Louie was overloaded with chunks of sun dried tomatoes, the squid ink risotto had zero flavor; the smoked mushrooms were under seasoned but, the cauliflower potato puree was a hit along with the Pan Frites both of which allowed for some taste satisfaction. The dessert, a lime brule' pie, was inedible. First bite gave a heavy tartness and then bitterness. We all left our dessert mostly untouched. I would have given this restaurant one star, but the service was very good. Overall, as long term San Diego resident, there are plenty of restaurants on or near the water that will give you great, not okay, experience. I recommend passing on Tidal and you wil find a better way to spend $150 for 2 for dinner. read more

Friends were In town and wanted to eat somewhere on the bay. The view and the patio are amazing but the food was inedible. Not only is the menu very limited, but the prices are absurd. Waiter tried his best, but the food was terrible. My one friend had the $37 for scallops plate. No sides and the portion was so small it wouldn't be enough food for a child. I got the Caesar salad for $17 and a $25 hamburger. If I owned this place I would be embarrassed to serve it. The burger was so Plain and then had to wait 15 mins for ketchup and mayonnaise. And SALTY! So salty it was like licking a salt container. After tax, 3.5% surcharge, and mandatory 18% tip, it came to $70 for a plain burger, salad and a coke. My other friend had the steak special for $51 and it was ice cold and the mash potatoes were so salty they were inedible. Last night we ate dinner at Tidal for the first time in a little over a year. We were staying at Paradise Point for the weekend and thought we would end our trip with a nice dinner. Well this place has definitely changed. Unfortunately the dinner was awful, the food was terrible actually with the exception of the dessert. It's a fixed menu (very limited) and more like a BBQ pit now, Very expensive for terrible food. The same reaction of disgust was happening all around the restaurant and it was very sad, we used to LOVE this place. We felt bad for the waitress, she was very kind and trying to help, but it definitely was not her fault. Undercooked food, very greasy and just gross. Let's begin with Deb the manager, she is amazing and knows how to take care of people who are in distress while calling from the road after a competitor's (the Marine Room) disastrous customer service. Deb was extremely professional, extremely customer service driven, and just so down to earth!!! No surprise that her entire staff followed suit of her stellar perfection in caring for their guests. The views are spectacular, the food is exquisite, both the waitstaff and the bus help are outstanding. We had Logan who thoroughly entertained us with an abundance of stories about wine and appetizers and entrées. Prior to coming here we were told at Paradise point and the Tidal restaurant is a stuffy place. There is nothing uncomfortable about this entire operation. The have a wine corkage fee if $20 not horrible but not cheap either. What's interesting is the wine We took to the restaurant was actually a gift from the Paradise point Hotel which we were staying at -we figured we'd take it to dinner. When I called to ask if they had a corkage fee, the person asked me what kind of wine it was? So it makes me think if the wine was perhaps more expensive maybe the corkage fee would have been more? I don't know, and to top it off our bottle was a twist top imagine that!! Anyhow the food was absolutely delicious and very filling this was a great restaurant on the premises. Truly a Hidden Local Gem Fit for Foodies. The meal we had was undoubtedly one of the best meals we have had in years. I was impressed to find Micronesian Dishes on a menu in San Diego, so asked to talk to the chef. Andrew Reyes is an artist in the Kitchen and has created a fusion of traditional Micronesian dishes with a local and Mexican twist. The flavors are unique and they had my favorite dish from Guam, Chicken Kalaguen. If you visit this is a must. My husband and I were enjoying a short stay-cation and some delicious appetizers and a bottle of Caymus. It was a tasty small piece of toast with mushrooms on top that was tasty. Drinks came out quickly and were good. I ordered a cucumber mule and my husband had a Hendricks and lime juice. The server went over his recommendations off of the menu. The menu offered good options and some different experiences. We opted to start with the Octopus off of the starters menu. Which when it came out it presented nicely and it was a decent serving, came with a chorizo jam (odd right?) but it was amazing! I ordered scallops that came with 4 huge scallops over a bed of a grain (I don't remember what exactly but it was good) they were perfectly seared and tender! Definitely was enough! My husband ordered the shrimp special, came with 7 shrimp and a side and he chose the mashed potatoes. The potatoes were perfect, creamy and smooth. The shrimp was cooked perfect! Don't bother . If you are a foodie go elsewhere. If you enjoy quality food and a good chef go elsewhere. If you work hard for your money, please go elsewhere. You will feel taken advantage of otherwise. Over priced holiday meal. Service was terrible, we saw the waitress four time through the entire night and there were only twelve tables full over the course of two hours. It took fifty minutes to get entree and an hour forty to get desert. The quality was fine but pre made cafeteria style. (Very bad wedding style). The view was amazing over the water but again it was embarrassing. Please go elsewhere. San Diego has some great places to eat. read more
