My last review was in 2020--man was that a tough year for everyone! Since then, I've been back numerous times, especially since we get a BOGO coupon in the local paper. I'm happy to report that we haven't had a repeat of our 2020 experience. Over the last two years, we've only had great visits. The employees vary, but some are genuinely funny, and all have been kind, courteous, and hardworking. When it comes to simple subs, Thundercloud really hits the spot, especially at the right price point (and when one is free!). read more

I work directly across Grand Avenue Parkway, from this location. I generally food prep but, I remember Thundercloud fondly so, I decided to let my food prep sit and get a sandwich as a treat. I ordered online and picked it up. The staff were genuinely super sweet! I got the Austin club on French bread. No additions (wait, I asked for salt) with provolone cheese. I ordered a small. To be honest, I was disappointed. I'm so sad to say that! This used to be my favorite sub shop when I lived in Cedar Park. Half of my cut sandwich was missing meat and cheese. On a super positive note, the guacamole was NOT lacking! Most sub shops are super lacking as avocados are expensive. The bread was okay and soft enough. The lettuce was a bit old and slimy. The condiments were minimal. So were the veggies, meat and cheese. However, I must note that the cost was quite low for a sub. It's definitely cost effective and, I love that! I also ordered the potato salad. I won't review that as I think I'm a bit too picky and that wouldn't be fair. All in all, I can't say that I will go back. I have a colleague that frequents this shop and absolutely loves it!! He either gets the meatball or the Austin. He raves about this location! I'm sure that he has a reason to as he orders frequently. All in all, I'm bummed. Having a great sub shop, close by, is an asset! The music was rad, as a side note! :) read more

What kind of shit is this!? Ask for a club sandwich and this is what I get. The service from the drive thru has gone down horribly. read more

I've been coming to the place since I was a kid, I'm in my 30s that should speak volumes! Hands down the best cold sandwiches in Austin. My go to is the large club on white and it never disappoints. The service is always friendly, because it's made to order it can take a bit especially during lunch hour. The vibe is real cool and chill at all the locations I've visited. read more

I come here often and I've been violently ill, I send my boyfriend to grab us some food that I might be able to keep in my stomach and then his water bottle accidentally got my sandwich soaked, he went back on foot might I add, and asked if they could replace the bread....Now I have to spend 6 more dollars on f***ing break with cheese instead of them just replacing my bread/sandwhich or selling a damn replacement bread for my food I haven't even gotten to eat! I'm am truly disappointed with this establishment and its employees, I'd recommend going anywhere else! EDIT: The employee who wanted to create and facilitate this terrible experience goes by "J.T." So beware this location and this employee!!!! read more

My go-to place for a sandwich or salad in this area. It's so easy to order online, but easy to order at the counter, too. Everyone is always kind and helpful. I'm a big fan of the Texas tuna. Additionally, they have smoothies (made with apple juice.. no milk! Halleloo! ) that are blended especially for you! So good on a hot summer day. Thundercloud is an easy option for work lunch. Easy, healthy, and not expensive read more

It was fresh and delicious as always. This is one of my go to's for a great sandwich...

Thundercloud has been our go-to quick, easy, grab & go meal for years and it never disappoints! (Literally went to a location down south after the alter in 2005). There are plenty of seats inside and outdoors. The staff are cool and friendly, their service is pretty quick (we mostly take advantage of their drive-thru). Their bread is not the best bread, let me tell you that, but overall their sandwiches just hit it for us. It gives me the old school sandwich vibe, and I like it. Our favorites are Office's favorite (egg sandwich), I'm not sure if it got its name because many Thundercloud employees love to order it or it's meant in a sarcastic way because no one in the office likes it when you bring boiled eggs for lunch (fish is even worse ). We also like their California club, and Turkish Delight. All in all, we love this place, any location is consistent and the flavors are on lock. Austin native or visitor add this to your restaurant repertoire. Enjoy! read more

My first time ever trying thundercloud was at this location. I loved the food it tasted fresh and the service was great, I can't remember her name but she was really nice and helpful since I had never been before. I'll definitely be back! read more

Great great place with a crazy nice owner. We ordered catering online for a function and when we stopped by in the morning, everything was ready and delicious. Even though it was bitterly cold and raining that morning (it was during Austin's last cold freeze in January of 2024), the owner was incredibly cheerful and hooked it up with all the sides / sauces. Well recommended! read more

Had a school fundraiser coupon to this location only so decided to stop by and redeem it and get my fave egg salad sub. Once entering we noticed workers were masked. Patrons were socially distanced. They took our order and was prompt and efficient. Kind. Workers looked like students but knew what they were doing. They messed up with the coupon though but got it corrected right away and was apologetic. They did our subs well. Delicious! Roast beef and cali turkey. After our initial visit we ordered ahead the next time and picked up at their drive through. Easy peasy. Wouldn't mind coming back to this location if we are in Pflugerville. Thanks guys! read more

First time tryin them out.......last time also....very disappointed in the whole meal. Potato salad was bland and "dry"(how can that be possible????)....I really love potato salad and this is def. in the top 3 of worse ones I've tried.....got the pastrami sub w/wheat...the bread....wow, flat and very discount store quality.....the meat...yea, I don't know what it is with sub places here, but this was typical pastrami from the area.....lean, dry and little flavor......very little amount also...overall, not worth it in any way shape or form..... This place has failed in every way possible.......def. not fat man approved..... read more

What a rude interaction I had today with an employee. As I was ordering my sandwich the man at the drive thru with long hair and a full face mask makes a comment saying "you sure are loading up on the toppings aren't you". In disbelief I asked excuse me what did you say & he proceeded to repeat it again saying I'm ordering so many toppings. I order this same sandwich often and have never had such a terrible service experience. Why was that unnecessary comment given unprovoked? Especially considering I'm paying for everything and should be able to get the food to my liking. Definitely do not appreciate this and will not be returning. read more

This Thundercloud location is my absolute favorite. Subs are fresh and delicious. It is their consistently smiling and courteous staff that always delights me. Wow. I've been going to Thundercloud subs since 1995 when I first landed in Austin. Lots of great sandwiches consumed. I just picked up a couple of mediocre sandwiches from the Pflugerville location. It was poor enough that I checked to see if the company had been bought. No such luck. The feedback...the bread (whole wheel) has changed to be a tasteless mealy bread. Little meat, no flavor, no joy. I had been thinking about a thundercloud ny sub for a couple of days, and actually cheated on my diet to indulge! Blah blah bland. read more

Great sandwich. Soft bread. Pleasant staff. Can't go wrong with a quick lunch here. It's in a small shopping center with a gas station. They do have a decent parking lot area on the side. A few tables outside. Just happened to be a nice day, so I sat outside to eat. About the sandwich, like I said, the bread is soft. I ordered a turkey sandwich with mustard, American cheese, comes with shredded iceberg lettuce and tomato. I added avocado for an extra fee. The sandwich was cut in half which makes it easier to handle without falling apart. Great location, great sandwich read more

I have had these guys sandwiches when flying out of AUS airport and always enjoyed them. This location is on the complete opposite side of town from us but since we were near downtown today we decided to give them a try. I ordered the New Yorker and my wife ordered the Turkey sandwich dressed. I really liked mine and would have loved it if it had just a little more mayo on it. My wife did not care for the shredded lettuce on her sandwich and when she pulled it off you could tell it had seen better days. She said it was very good once that was removed. This place is probably a shade better than 4 stars but not nearly worth the last star. read more

After twelve years in Austin, Thundercloud still floats my boat. Let's be clear, Thundercloud is heads and shoulders above all other sub places, and I love it's place in Austin history. Oh, and they have vegan and vegetarian options! I'm a big fan of the Nada chicken. My only beef (har har) is that the prices seem to keep going up, and more and more options end up in the "extras." A pretty simple sandwich can end up pretty expensive if you aren't careful! Thundercloud is great if you want a quick food that makes everyone in your group happy, a quick lunch, picnic food, whatever. But nothing I couldn't make at home. Keep those BOGO coupons coming, and I'll keep stopping by though! read more

So we started coming here shortly after the pandemic hit because we had had it with the Round Rock location. We had repeatedly been let down by the RR location. We would show up and be told there was no wheat bread. Most of the time it was that there was no large wheat and they couldn't substitute two small whites for the large wheat. We do order sandwiches every Sunday evening so I get it that there can be a common element of potentially running out of bread before the beginning of a new week. The way the locations handle it is the difference. Anyway, this Grand Avenue, Pflugerville, location has yet to let us down. The staff is always very polite and if they run out of large wheat they CALL US ahead of time. I have to admit that the fact that they have a drive through is a plus and they encourage the use of the drive through after a certain time of day. The sandwiches here are always well made with fresh ingredients and they nine times out of 10 have large wheat bread in stock. The one time out of 10 that they do not have large wheat bread they at least have large white. The main thing is THEY TAKE THE TIME TO PICK UP THE PHONE TO LET US KNOW. I don't exactly know the management structure of this company but if it is different managers at different locations this is critical! My husband and I used to own a business and we felt that customer service and customer communication were critical aspects of running a business. My hat is off to the manager of this location. I see no other explanation for such vastly different ways for employees handling the very same situation. read more

Great veggie options which most sandwiches places don't or what offer is meh. Bread is delish but in the very small side. I need something that takes more than three bites to eat a half sandwich. Service is amazing and sandwiches are tasty. read more

Went to Thundercloud Subs in Pflugerville last week. A young man named Drew showed us the lay of the land. My first impression was that he knew what he was doing and that he genuinely wanted us to have a pleasant experience! My husband had a California sub. He loved it. I'm a bit (lot)) more high maintenance. Drew listened to everything I asked for and perfectly prepared my sub. He asked if we wanted to eat in or to take it home. When I said I wanted it to go, Drew smiled and told me that the restaurant was closing in 1 minute anyway! He had treated us like we had come in at noon...not like we would make him late! So, if the subs had been meh we would have returned if only to be treated so well again by Drew!! read more

I've been here several times since it's right next door to where I live... and so it's time for a review! The review is mainly due to the employees because I always have great customer service when I'm here. Sometimes I order inside and sometimes I order outside (it's so awesome that they have a drive-thru!) and every time they are very detailed about my order and are always really friendly. Thundercloud Subs definitely has an Austin vibe to it. The food is always fresh...I normally order their veggie sub with the hummus and sprouts which is very good and not heavy at all. Or a salad. I like their carrot cake, too ;) The only negative is that their intercom in the drive-thru kind of sucks...So sometimes I have to repeat what I'm ordering several times lol read more

Hands down, the best local sandwich joint in town. Straight up. IDK why people even go to Subway. Bleh. No yoga-mat breads here, let me tell ya. I've been a fan of Thundercloud for years, and bounce from the RR to PV locations, and have yet to be disapointed. Every employee that Ive come across has the best attitude, and give the best Austin-vibe to the shop. My favorite sandwich is the California Club. Despite not really being a fan of many things "Cali", it is the best sammy. Avocado, bacon, turkey.. get it on wheat, with Thundersauce, spicy mustard and the veggie fixins.. You'll be hooked. Top it with some Salt and Vinegar chips, and one of their cold pickles.. DELISH! (damn Im really hunrgy now) Keep it up Thundercloud. Stay funky, and keep it local. read more

We generally eat here and love the food and great service. Today was a little different. 10 minutes ago, I parked right in front of the door to see at least two signs saying "masks required to enter" and other signs saying ToGo service only. I go to the counter, one customer ahead of me. He turns after receiving his order, NO mask and wearing an obnoxiously loud Trump2020 cap - go figure. While I order, I notice he's setting up at a table. I ask the kids serving me what's happening with the other customer since signs say masks required and no dine-in, only to be told "the manager hasn't had time to deal with that but we have to wear masks behind the counter." Seriously??? This is food service, signs indicate masks required, no dine-in. I'm so shocked, almost furious, I'm shaking. We will NOT be returning to this store until signage is enforced. Very disappointing. The guy had his 4-5yo kid with him, I hope the kid learns to read better than his dad. :( read more

Location was clean but not as fun as some other ones....we're not in Austin anymore, toto! Employees were kind and helpful with suggestions. It was lunch rush and they had a great system of getting everything rung up while getting the sandwiches out. I had the egg salad (the only 'salad' sandwich without celery) and it was delish. Egg salad, sprouts, yellow mustard, onion, and provolone. Carrot cake could use a little more frosting or a little less cake. But still good! Convenient location for us northerners but I wish they'd have a bit more of the 'weird' vibe going. read more

I think I love it so much because it is such a representation of Austin. With consistently good food in a casual environment and it's good for you! There is nothing quite like a Thundercloud sub. Twenty minutes later and we finally left with 1 sub and 2 smoothies. It was not busy at all and there was at least 5 employees there. It appeared the guy helping me and my husband was new, but also every action he took was just slow. With the amount of employees there, it would have been awesome to have 1 doing smoothies while he did the sub. We called in an order over the phone. The woman helping me was very thorough and friendly and I was pretty confident our order would be correct! Unfortunately when I got home, our sandwiches were made completely wrong. I also had walked in during a time where they were shift changing so I think they were unaware that I was standing there to pick up an order, so I was waiting a little longer than I should have, which didn't bother me at all. They were still nice enough to give me a drink on the house which was not necessary but very much appreciated! This was my first visit to this location and slightly disappointed in the sandwich I was very much looking forward to! This Thundercloud is very near my school in a shopping center that includes an Anytime Fitness and a gas station. It is across the street from Graham's Central Station and a nail place. In other words, there aren't many eating choices in this neck of the woods. On our professional development days, the ladies and I are always looking for a healthy, inexpensive, quick place to eat. Thundercloud fits all of these criteria. My friend and I ate lunch here last Tuesday. I had only been to the drive through previously. The woman who took my order was very friendly. I ordered the veggie sandwich and the green chili/ corn soup. Both were fresh and delicious. Much better than your average fast food. The interior was clean and bright. The girl today who made my orders was incredibly rude. She was unfriendly and acted as if I was wasting her time and an inconvenience. Not only that, the sandwiches were subpar. My girlfriend always gets the Italian with sweet peppers and there were literally three on her sandwich. The rest of the toppings were also slumped on but for some reason this girl felt the need to supply us with an over abundance of mayo and mustard. The final note is the lemonade and the soda fountain were both out of syrup. My girlfriends lemonade was just pink dyed water and my soda was just carbonated water with a hint of sweetness... not appetizing.
