This place may be "cheap" but they also charge for everything - I felt like I had to get coins just to use a urinal. It feels retro but that's probably because they have not updated it since the 70's... I mean? Streamers on the ceiling!!! And light balls from the 80's!!! I get it that this place is probably a staple of the olden, and I mean, olden days of Plano West, but seriously? Paid $1000 for a public skate event. Paid in advance and KC the gal at T-Bird botched the event so bad, it never happened AT ALL. So far they refused to return the $1000--even tho' I received NO VALUE for it. KC was a very unpleasant person from the word go! WILL NEVER do business with them again! So heads up! read more

Honestly, I love this place and I'm so grateful to have a good roller rink somewhat near me. I make sure to come here at least a few times a year and it gets more fun overtime! It is only $8 to skate, and $6 if you bring your own skates, making this not only fun but a cheap activity too. The big downside is how old/ rundown it looks. It could be a lot worse, but does need some sort of update. Besides that, the staff is great and skating is super fun! read more

Cute venue with great roller skating vibe and lots of energy, but staff and service leave a bit to be desired. We had an injury which revealed staff is not versed in dealing with a situation like this. They did not know what to do, one female staffer told my daughter she was fine and the ankle she hurt was not broken (we went to the ER, the ankle was broken), and they could not figure out how to clear the rink. It was clear that there was no procedure in place and no one knew even the most basic first aid. Once we got her off the rink and to the car, the parking lot (now it was closing time) was a sea of disorganization. Cars were honking, no one could get out and we were trapped behind a van, that turned out to be the manager's, blocking a main driveway out of the venue. I certainly hope there is never a larger scale emergency here, as I don't think they could deal with it! read more

Of course I'm gonna 5 star this place! If you love to skate, looking for a fun day (for a good price), or a super duper fun birthday party then this is the place to go to! Actually I'm a party host here at thunderbird and have been working here for about 2 years in December! I love the kids and enjoy working with the parents! I see some reviews say things about the building's smell, and the look, but you have to remember this is a very old building! It's one of the oldest rinks around! I believe they opened sometime in the 1970's! We're doing our best to get some renovations done! And for a secret spiller some new renovations will take place around the beginning of 2016! The new management had been trying their best to up this rink's name! I'm so excited for the new things to come, they will really make the rink look nice. If your looking for a party here, we have wonderful party hosts that will do everything in their power to make sure your kids have the time of their lives! We try our best to adapt to the situations given to us and we hope you be flexible as well! Sometimes parents get upset that they only have about 30 minutes in the party room, but it gives you enough time to eat pizza, sing happy birthday, then eat cake! (Not open presents) and most of the time after eating pizza the kids are begging to go out and skate! It's a hassle to even keep them to stay and eat cake! Anyways, Then they will skate until called to the money machine! Where they are given about 30 seconds to catch as much money as they can! No matter what other parents say... Kids always have a wonderful time, it's the parents that get overwhelmed with everything to be perfect but I just recommend that they relax and enjoy their kid's party! I've never had a kid complain about their party! Nothing against the parents! I Promise! But it is in the parents nature to make sure their kids are happy so I will give them that. But anyways! Only heard one song that was up to date while i skated today, most music was older than me and I'm 20. Any songs that came on from the 2000s were either Katy Perry or Taylor Swift. With many teens skating and it being a Friday you would expect better music targeting the younger audience but that wasn't the case for the thunderbird this playlist would've been good 30 years ago maybe. We had our daughter's 5th birthday party here and they couldn't of been nicer! It has a very retro feel to it. Reminded me of skating when I was a little girl. The DJ was so nice to our daughter and made a point to ask what games and music she wanted since it was her birthday. The party room is a little small and prison feeling, hence the loss of one star, but overall, we will be back soon! read more

Goin retro! Stop number 2 of a friends birthday bash we decided the best thing to do after filling up on sushi was roller skate, the logical choice. The usual 70's-80's roller rink look was present here although the floor is in great shape. Skates are a little worse for wear and they don't carry half sizes. Also not credit card so get cash first. DJ wise they certainly seem to cater to the tweens but not too bad. Reminds me a most rinks i've been to:) read more

Stroller skating is an awesome event to get moms got, but the Miami make it I enjoyable. The facility needs to play music that appeals to their customers. The carpets need vacuumed along with the benches. It's a great roller rink, but it needs to be a little cleaner. read more

***THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO RAFAY 2.'S REVIEW ON 6/21/19*** Me and my family were there last Friday night when this hideous situation took place, and let me just say that this young man is not telling the whole story here. There was a birthday party going on, and this boy was skating way too fast. He was asked by the staff to slow down multiple times, but he continued to skate too fast. The last time one of the managers asked him to slow down, he started disrespectfully yelling and cursing at her, then skated off really fast. One of the floor guards then skated down to confront him and he grabbed the floor guard by the shirt and threw him to the skate floor, then started yelling at him as well. At that time, the Plano police officer that was on duty there was asked to go over and escort him out of the building. On the way off of the skate floor, to the back of the place to get his belongings, then back up to the front to get his shoes, he was yelling and cursing up a storm. I've never witnessed such a fit throwing! During all of this madness, the birthday parents and children, along with the rest of the customers watched in disbelief. One of the other parents even said that the officer should have thrown this boy out earlier in the night. Due to all of this, the management chose to ban him from the rink for 1 year. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially around children. I personally have never had a bad experience there, and Thunderbird will continue to get my family's business. Don't get me wrong, the place could use a few minor upgrades, and maybe replace the carpeting, but the staff is friendly, the food is good, they have games for the kids, and my family has a good time when they go there. read more

I grew up in Plano and when I was 11 through 16 I went there every weekend! I have so many great memories of Thunderbird and all my friends! I can honestly say it was one of the best times of my life! And now I get to take my 5 year old there! read more

Not very many roller tanks now adays but this one is great use the Groupon app to save money here great deals. Food not so good. But really busy all the time skates good price and nice staff. Fun games are played for everyone. And walkers can be purchased if needed skates sizes they have all pretty good place overall! read more

Parents-beware of dropping your kids and teens off here, especially at night. Rink employees DO NOT enforce rule #6 on Thunderbird's own website which states: "NO In & Out privileges or loitering around the building. When you leave, you leave. Person will have to pay admission again for re-entry." This place is dirty and employees are not helpful. read more

Went skating today with a grade school friend for my 56th birthday! I loved to skate as a kid and have been several times as an adult but not to this rink. The rink was in good shape. Had one rough spot on the floor but overall very good. Music was good, activities were good, and service was good. I had a fun time and will return. read more

If I could give Zero stars I would. The strongest reason would be the D.J., who was hardly one at all. I grew up in a skating rink. Today I decided to bring my child for the first time and was truly disappointed the "D.J" in her monotone voice just belted out commands the entire time we were there. Stop doing this, don't this, get to the side, you can't do that over and over and over. Every 5 minuets she got on the mic to say something negative. I mean when did skating get so serious and all negative. Skating is so supposed to be a fun memorable time. Especially on Sundays when it's a bunch of little kids birthday parties. At one point she even said she was going to take away the skater assists (can't remember the name) and she would make the parents pay another $3! WHAT?!?!? That's insane! You all are in the business for people to come and have a good time. Instead it was like being in school or worse a boot camp. You truly need to rethink your business practice and remember why you are there and who your customers are. It needs to be fun and upbeat. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she was trained to do that, maybe she takes her job too seriously, who knows? And I get it, safety is important. But this was never an issue when I was skating growing up. I know this will probably fall on def ears. Hope not and hope you all can bring back skating fun for kids! read more

Kids love Thunderbird Roller Rink. I give it three stars because it's not very clean, the bathrooms are run down (and in need of repair), and the party I attended was not well run by the staff. But, that's an adult's perspective. The kids didn't seem to notice....or mind. Would just like to see them improve the environment. I believe they'd get more business. read more

Probably the worst birthday party experience out of all the birthday party's we've hosted. We scheduled the birthday from 2-4pm online but they don't let you in the room until 3pm and then they kick you out at 3:30pm. I reserved a pizza party for 25 skaters and my guests were forced to eat pizza cake and drinks in 30 minutes. When my guests arrived, they just had to find us in the rink. And then we had to find somewhere to keep all our decorations, favors, and presents in the crowded rink. The staff was also extremely rude about it and had NO SYMPATHY for the horrible situation they put you in. They also spent the entire time yelling at skaters over the loud speakers for putting their shoes down in the wrong places and trying their skates on in the wrong places and for helping kids on the skate floor. And all this was $325!! The sad part was that we have been faithful customers for 5 years and I've even had a birthday party here before. I really hope this keeps people from booking their party here because I wouldn't want anyone else to experience what I did for my 9 years old birthday. read more

For a great, fun, family time that wont cost an arm and a leg,I highly recommend skating at Thunderbird. The floor is great, lots of games (like Chuck E Cheese). The DJ plays appropriate music. The DJ and floor guards do their best to make everyone have a safe and fun time. They do go over and enforce some safety rules for everyones safety. You will play games like the Dice Game, Limbo, Freeze Games, and Races. They still do the Hokie Pokie and now Cupid Shuffle and Casper Cha Cha Slide. They play a mixture of music from the 70's, 80's, 90, and current top hits..(no rap) , and take requests. Lessons every Saturday morning at 10am for $10, and you get to stay and skate all day.There are 3 instructors and teach all ages. Whether you are a beginner, or you want to improve on the skills you have, they know what they are doing. No need to pre register, and they do not teach on a professional advanced level. Birthday parties,, private parties,school parties, themed parties, day care parties... they have special packages to fit everyones budget. New management as of Dec. 01, 2013. Wow what a skating rink! Brand new floor, updated snack bar with wifi and cable tv. These places are getting far and few between. Does not deserve a STAR! The minute I walked in and smelled the stench I should of walked out with my kids. The place is disgusting - probably has not been cleaned since the 70s. I love this place! It seems as if nothing has change since they opened in 1972! Granted it is a bit gritty and dirty but so much fun and since I am a kid of the 80's, it is right up my alley. OH! I've been going to Thunderbird for more than six years now for both birthday parties and just for the fun of it. My kids love it. Even my autistic kid. They even regularly host a night just for the autistic group she belongs to. They accommodate with the lights, the crowd size and the music. I was EXTREMELY disappointed. We went to celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday. I was unable to book a party weeks ago because everything was all booked up, but I figured we'd go anyway since my daughter had her heart set on it. Thinking I had plenty of time to skate since their website claimed they close at 10pm, I got there around 4pm and paid for 8 girls. Around 5:30, we decide to get something to eat. I go to the concession and try to order 2 pizzas, but was told unless I was in a party there was NO FOOD available. No hot dogs, no pizzas, nothing. Furthermore, I was told that they were closing at 6pm for roller derby. Why hadn't they told me that when I paid????? I may not be in the Roller Derby or booked a party, but we are customers too!!!! read more

This is the worst business I have ever been to! The new owners (since March 2010) are not helpful with customer service and actually used poor profanity in front of children when dealing with a customer issue. I would never skate here again let alone book a party - They are running everything by CASH ONLY with no receipt and I doubt they will be around for long! They have no business owning a family friendly environment and I do not suggest going to this rink. There are other rinks in the area that would be more appropriate. read more

If you are looking for a great family experience, don't waste your time or money at this place. If the smell isn't bad enough to stop you at the entrance, then the staff will. I took my family here a few times before and it wasn't ever great, however the last visit was the worst. The staff was very rude, food was horrible. I also witnessed a confrontation between the owner/manager and patrons where a girl injured her arm, he was very rude to the mother and offered no assistance to help her even get to their car and she had other children with her. To say he was gruff is an understatement. If you really want to have fun in a true family establishment this is not the place for you.
