I was woken at 8 by two maintenance people with hammers and electric saws working on the railing about 4 feet from my head. Leslie at the front desk was nice when I called and asked for "just another hour of sleep please." We could hear her come out to the parking lot and tell the crew to shut it down. Promptly at 9 they returned. Who schedules maintenance like that? I love a good retro kitschy hotel as much as the next person. I'm ok without elevators, central AC, fancy beds or fluffy robes but one thing has to be available at any hotel and that is SLEEP! I visit Savannah often for the food and nightlife and I will be back but me and my hangover won't be staying here again. read more

On a recent cross country trip, we actually left our Holiday Inn room more central in town to stay here. Consistent was o.k., no adventure though. I know. Silly right? Not really. I wanted to get some of that retro feel The Bird was offering...the Neon sucked us in...and guess what? They delivered. The room was clean, the decor cool, piped in music was a nice touch. The only 'complaint' was that a fella with a trailer took up 3 spaces and since the place was almost full, parking was difficult. As in: when we came back at 2:45 a.m., there was only one spot left. Oh yea, and no 'to-go' cups for coffee in the morning when we hit the road. Bring your own to the breakfast area if you want a cup of Joe to go with your Krispy Cream. read more

What a sight for tired eyes, driving south from Virginia this is literally the first thing you see entering Georgia/Savannah. The rooms are very clean and the Moonpie on your pillow is an unexpected treat. When I called to make reservations they said it would be $99 but when I explained I was a little tight on cash they lowered it to $69. My favorite number. Thunderbirds, GO read more

This place reminds me of the motels my parents used to take me and my sister when we went down the shore in the summer. Before they made money. Oh the memories. The Thunderbird looks like the Ocean Motel on the outside but the rooms are updated and actually very cute (I'm actually a girl). Ours wasn't a huge room but use-able and the bathroom was really small but again...use-able. We stayed here because its fairly close to the historic district and they are pet-friendly. We love pets and pets love us. So we took our pet Batman with us. There is an area behind the hotel that has a big field filled with these prickly naval mine looking things. They hurt. Batman didn't like walking back there to much so we found her some other walking places to go. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to most of the "stuff". This actually worked out for us because we could wear out our superhero a little bit. The staff seemed very nice. We were only there for a couple of days so we didn't need any cleaning services while we were there. We didn't have any problems sleeping in the comfy beds. I saw people mentioning that it was a little noisy. We sleep with the TV on and kinda loud, so it always sounds like trucks driving by, people yelling from the bus station and maids talking outside the room. read more

Super cute budget motel with lots of fun retro flair! I needed a place to crash on a FL to NY roadtrip and this fit the bill: cheap, convenient, and more fun than your typical roadside motel. There's lots of charm, the rooms are spacious and clean, the moon pies were tasty, and the bed was comfy. The parking spaces are RIDICULOUSLY small and it seemed like some of my fellow guests couldn't keep the party in their room, but everything quieted down by the time I went to bed. I didn't get a chance to spend much time in Savannah, but it seemed like the hotel was in a decent location for seeing the sites. As a nice bonus, it's pet-friendly! read more

Just stayed here a couple of nights, attracted by the location and parking. As other reviewers note, a bit down at the heel. No soap, just 'face lotion' goo. Tiny bath. Not enough towels our first night. Working but falling-apart air conditioner loud enough to drown out continuous music. Workable if you need the cheapest; otherwise you can do much better. The sign is hip; the rest is kitsch. read more

Great place to stay that is fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. Check in was smooth the rooms were clean and beds perfect. I loved the touch of Moon Pies and RC waiting for you in the room. The dispenser of soap, shampoo and conditioner were a great touch and shows the hotels passion for being more green. I didn't expect the Four Seasons, the price and cleanliness were on point. If I could give one suggestion would be, replace the carpeted floors with tile. Nice ceramic "hard wood" looking tile would be much easier to clean in a party city and a hotel that is pet friendly. Other than that I cannot think of any other things to comment on. Loved everything this piece of nostalgia had to offer. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. Between the poop in the toilet from a previous guest, to the staff, to the pubes in the bed this place is horrible. Save your money and time. There are way better hotels to give your money to in savannah. read more

Let me just say, this Inn was a fantastic and affordable option when staying in Savannah. The people were wonderfully nice, and the Inn was well kept and clean. A great addition was the Krispy Kreme donuts for breakfast! Denise and I loved staying here for our first visit south, and the location was aptly located to walk throughout downtown, and making your way to the beach is really easy and accessible. I highly recommend this place, and will kindly add any nice words for the option. Great time, great city, and wonderful stay. Thank You Thunderbird Inn, we had a beautiful time. read more

Thunderbird Inn - Love this! - Hotels Near Me - Savannah, Georgia

I gave them five because: the accommodated us with a first floor room so we can get my mom's wheelchair in, clean comfy king size bed, the retro shampoo, conditioner and lotion bottles, distance to city and access to highway system, neon 1960s sign, their effort to be an environmentally sustainable business and the 24 hour check in because we arrived at midnight. No breakfast but they do have Krispy Creme donuts and breakfast drinks. Greyhound/train transit is right in front of hotel (no noise overnight). Be aware that you have to pay a 7.50 parking fee. read more

I'm giving it a solid OK! Location and price were the reasons we stayed here; it was a safe walk to downtown without the outrageous price tag. They seem to tout a coupon book in much of their advertising, but we never received one, and there was nothing in the room. So, don't pin your hopes to such lofty promises! It's got a cute, rockabilly vibe in the front lobby and on the exterior, but that's about it. It is a standard hotel room, lacking a design theme, art, etc. Aesthetics aside, it was clean and comfortable, which was what a weary traveler needs (I was really prepared from the worst, from having read some earlier Yelp reviews after booking my reservation). The breakfast is skim pickings: coffee, juice, and Krispy Kreme donuts. Yes, I get that there is a theme to be upheld, but it just came off as cheap. Of course, we'd been traveling around the state all week, staying in less expensive hotels with much better breakfast spreads. Just as an aside, 50's rock music is set up to blare onto the parking lot. That was charming for about a minute, as we pulled up to check in. My husband's first words: "Oh, this looks cool!" And about three hours later, in our hotel room: "When are they going to turn off that annoying music?" And at 7:30 pm: "Seriously, are they not going to turn off that f'ing music?" That reminds me: BRING EARPLUGS. The rooms all face along a street which is quite busy and noisy in the morning. Or, you could have the misfortune of being in room 106, which is next to the housekeeper's office. Those ladies like to chat it up at 7:30 am. And boy, do their voices carry. I'm assuming they did not realize that we were trying to sleep. I'm giving them 3 stars for trying, but this is just an ordinary hotel in a great location, featuring good marketing. read more

We stayed here for 3 days and two nights. The inn was very affordable (around $55 per person a night). However, the area could be kind of sketchy since it is in downtown. Overall, I liked the experience as the room was clean and well-maintained and the motel serves Krispy Kreme donuts for breakfast (Woohoo!!). read more

My sister and I stayed at the Thunderbird Inn for 2 nights during our trip to Savannah. And I have to say the beds made this hotel great. They were so wonderful. They were just the right amount of comfy but firm. They put 4 pillows on each bed and they seem (emphasis on the word seem) to be different levels of comfort so you could find what works for you. Another nice thing about the Thunderbird, we were very close to the Historic district for what I consider to be a very reasonable price. We got 2 nights in a room with 2 queen beds for $140. (for both nights) We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to see and we were right around the corner from the free downtown bus stop. Here's what I didn't like: 1 - There were no towel bars/racks in the room or the bathroom. I ended up hanging my towel over the clothes rack. We're an eco-conscious (sort of) type of people. We didn't need the towels washed every day. 2 - The bathroom (really toilet/shower) is TINY. Given that there were no towel bars, there was also no place to hang up any clothing in there. There was also very few places to put other things. You know, like lotion or whatever. My sister and I aren't exactly walk around naked in front of each other people so the bathroom size meant I was either piling my clothes on the floor or on the toilet lid. 3 - They pipe music into the parking lot all day. The music starts at 7 am and stops at 11 pm. You can totally hear it in the rooms (or at least we could). Seven am is kind of early when you've had a rollicking time in Savannah the night before. The first night I did call at like 10:30 not realizing they shut it off at 11 and they shut it off for me. All in all, a pretty neat place and I would totally go back. read more

Great prices, but unfortunately our stay (mid-February) was marred by obtrusive construction noise that began at 8am sharp. Earth movers rumbled close to the back walls of the Inn, resonating the entire room and forcing us out well before we wanted. Other guests were standing outside their rooms on the balcony with unhappy expressions, as well. The mornings were really unbearable. The Thunderbird management knows the construction is quite noisy - they posted a nicely worded notification outside the office. But, perhaps, they should have shut down during the worst of the construction activities. At the least, I think they should have warned guests during the reservation discussions of the situation. The rooms themselves are adequate. Clean but very tired. The bathroom is tiny and dingy. We traveled with our dog which limits our choices and this was the cheapest place we could find in Savannah. But, it wasn't a good value because of the noise. read more

I'd been wanting to stay at the T-bird Inn for a minute. I was in town for a conference hosted at SCAD, and this was the recommended lodging. I booked accommodations too late to grab a spot for that trip, but bookmarked it in my mind for a future visit. Future trip came around, and I happily booked a room. First impression: when you pull up it looks like any old motel. I mean, it is a motel. But after spending a hot sticky day in the car driving and sightseeing in the balmy 90-plus degree weather, I was delighted to settle in somewhere cool and quiet. The room was larger than expected for the price--I think we got an upgrade! I booked a king size bed and lucked out with a large corner unit with a sofa. There were two groups of young men holding MTV Spring Break-esque activities outside in the hallway. Once the door was shut, though, I couldn't hear a thing. The bed was very cozy, felt pretty new. My boyfriend and I piled in immediately for a nap. The room felt extra clean, and didn't have any of that weird sticky beachy feeling that some spots in coastal towns do. The vibe was very laidback, and you could catch glimpses of the rock and roll retro theme in the lobby, snacks, and toiletries. But as other reviewers have noted--this is not a fully immersive experience. Old skool typewriter, Moon Pies, RC Colas? Yes. Velvet Elvises, luau shower curtain, shag carpet? No. One random thing to note--if you are driving, parking can be an issue. I stayed during a busy holiday weekend, and the lot was packed in the evening. Like double-parked packed. If you can leave your ride and walk to dinner/drinks/laser tag/what have you, do it. If you're looking for an inexpensive, clean, conveniently-located place to stay in Savannah, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Thunderbird Inn. read more

For ~$200 per night I expect some basic things: a toilet that works upon arrival, a toilet with its seat completely attached, a housekeeping service that remakes the bed and doesn't just pull the covers up over crumpled sheets, a housekeeping service that either leaves the towels we hung up to dry or at least replaces them when they are removed. This place has cute retro appeal and I was super excited to spend a couple of nights at the Thunderbird Inn while visiting Savannah. Unfortunately I found the hotel/motel to be lacking in the basic niceties one expects when paying a large sum for a night's stay. If this place had charged less per night, I would be writing a different review; after all it was only a place for us to sleep. I have traveled extensively throughout Mexico and the Thunderbird Inn was the equivalent of many barebones hotels I stayed in for around $20-30 a night. read more

We stayed over the X-mas holiday. This is a neat place to lodge when in Savannah. The rooms were nicely furnished and clean. There were really no places to store clothes outside your luggage as the cubby spots where the TV is located were a bit inconvenient. Perhaps investing in a dresser and night stands to stow your stuff could be an improvement. The coffee/tea/hot chocolate bar was excellent. A nice selection of teas and real ceramic mugs to drink from. The hot chocolate dispenser did break down and was gone a day, but it returned. Like the other reviewer mentioned the donuts were late one day. It was X-mas so I can't blame the Thunderbird. The only complaint is the pets, and lots of them and the smokers. There was some barking going on which is disturbing. There were a lot of smokers and they aren't shy about standing close to the building so you can inhale the smoke with them. Think the Thunderbird should send the smokers to the sidewalk. Some considerate person also spilled an ash tray mounted to the building resulting in a pile of cigarettes on the sidewalk one morning. Location of the Thunderbird is good to historic Savannah for walking. The parking lot is adequate and easy to access. The gentleman that stood out from all the staff was Addo, not sure of the spelling, he checked us in and checked us out at departure. He was very polite, friendly and wanting to help. The most pleasant of the front desk staff we encountered. The housekeeping staff was also pleasant when we encountered them as well. We would stay here again. read more

I am not normally a complainer but this was one of the most disgusting hotels I have ever stayed at. No ventilation, musty, dirty and the customer service has been horrible! I was told about two months ago that one of the nights I booked would be refunded because of having to leave for a family issue. I have sent numerous emails as well as comments on Facebook and no actual response and no refund. Also please take a look at the photos I posted, they explain everything. I have never doing more stray hair in a hotel room before. read more

We only stayed here for our one night in Savannah, but real glad we did! You do have to pay for parking (only 7.50/night-not bad!) but the room was clean and the employees were very hospitable. The main reason I would recommend to stay here is the location!! We were about 4 blocks from everything and didn't once have to move our car since we could walk everywhere! (Even better when happy hour turns into late nights!) Don't stay here and expect a 5-star hotel..this is a very unique, vintage-style motel but it serves it's purpose without you feeling like you need 5 showers after! read more

It was disgusting. From the rude front desk clerk to the nastiness of the bathroom, it was gross. Walked in the door of the room and it smelled bad, like old. The carpet was dirty, the curtains were layered with filth and dust to the point that the bottoms of them were black. Where they just put in a new ac unit (which was the only thing that was updated and worked) all of the sheet rock was exposed, unpainted and dusty. The paint was peeling above the shower head. The shower head itself was old and barely had any stream and there was only 2 settings to the water, lukewarm and scalding. There was an unrepaired fist hole in the wall in the bathroom. And the corners of the outside of the tub were caked in dirt. Cute touch with the moon pie but there was only one not sure how many were supposed to be in there but if you have more then one child you'll have to choose who gets it. The pillows on the bed were flat and stained very dirty. As for the location, it's next to the bus station and rap music bumped from cars over there all night long. The parking lot is so tiny with tiny spaces and they allow cars to park in the middle of the lot so you will be blocked in or get your doors caved in anywhere you park. $89 for 2 double beds. Overall it was awful and we would never stay there again and would never recommend it to family and friends. read more

We found Thunderbird while looking for reasonably priced accommodations in downtown Savannah, and it seemed to fit the bill. We also were in love with the idea of the retro styling. The moon pies, the cool color schemes of the room and the cute furniture, and the design of the lobby all really seemed awesome. When we checked in, I was mentally preparing a list of the souvenirs I wanted to buy. The reason that I emphasize this is that I want to make it clear that we were excited to be here, we knew what to expect for theme, and we knew that it was not going to be a 4 star hotel experience based on pricing alone. HOWEVER. When we checked into our room, which was in a sad dark corner by the stairs and a maintenance closet, we were not at all prepared for what we found. Everything in the room that could be dirty was. From scuffs on the walls to stains on the sheets to an ironing board referred to from now on as the "ironing board of shame." I have stayed in some very sketchy places before in my traveling, but I have honestly never experienced anything on par with this. The whole room stunk of disinfectant that I can only assume is used as an air freshener and not to clean anything. Aside from the cleaning issues, the room was much smaller than it looks like online (the bathroom is incredibly tiny... and those spa quality soaps do not look so appealing in a dirty tub). We saw all of these amazing reviews online , but it was nothing at all like most people had described. True, I read the few and far between negative reviews that describe similar experiences to this. Yet I tossed those aside proclaiming that those people just "didn't get it." Let me tell you. We got it. We loved the idea, didn't expect lavish amenities or an amazing tv. Yet within 1 hour we were out of there. We were not offered any kind of refund from management. Thankfully we did our booking through a third party that graciously decided to "take the hit on this one" and reconsider doing business with Thunderbird in the future. Oh, and.. no moon pies or RC colas in sight in the room: the ultimate insult to injury. read more

My initial reasons for choosing the Thunderbird Inn? The location is awesome and the price was good using Orbitz. After the stay I must say it was a blessing to not have to drive into town. The room was so tidy and you can definitely smell how fresh it was. The beds are soft and those pillows are like fluffy clouds. The room I chose was a double. I hadn't put in that we would have 4 to the room so our concierge gave us extra RC cola and moonpies for the other guests. This inn also has the best warm lighting I've ever seen. There are no dark spots within the room. It was just so warm and inviting. In the morning oldies music was played at a gentle volume in the parking lot and a light breakfast of Krispy Kreme donuts with drinks were offered. The parking fee for the night was $7.80 I believe. It's not bad but the parking is very tight. While I was checking out I was told that I could leave my car parked there until 5 or 6pm. It's a great option for those who intend to walk/bike. I would definitely recommend this inn and I hope to be able to stay here again the next time I see a great deal! read more

Like most other reviewers, I enjoyed the retro-vibe of the lobby, complimentary moon-pies, friendly customer service, generally reasonable prices, and prime location. The managers are quite accommodating as well, and were very generous about changing a trip due to unforeseen travel & weather circumstances. For all these reasons, I wish I could give the inn a higher rating but unfortunately, where the place falls down is cleanliness. Both times I've checked-in at the inn, there has been hair on the bathroom floor, and a bit of rust around the toilet and sink. The rugs are starting to look quite shabby as well, and not something you really want to walk around on barefoot. The maids are quite willing to help tidy up if you mention what needs to be done, but it's unfortunate that the extra step has to be taken. If the inn could invest in some upgrades in room decor and spare some extra attention to the cleanliness of the rooms, it really would be the best deal in downtown. read more

The T-bird is part of a small national chain of retro motels. It's got a cool thing going for it, and I enjoyed my stay - for the most part. My biggest complaint is that they play music on outdoor speakers, which makes it hard to take an afternoon nap (hey, I'm getting old and Savannah has an extra hour of drinking than Raleigh). The only other thing was that my room fridge did not work, but I didn't really need it. The moon pies and RC Cola are nice treats. Make sure to grab some Krispy Kremes and coffee in the morning by the front desk. It is on the edge of the city and I could understand complaints about not feeling safe. But, I didn't encounter any trouble and it is a short walk downtown. There are lots of discounts here, including AAA and a Foursquare check-in deal. The prices are some of the cheapest in the area, even before discounts. read more

One of the best values in Savannah. Great location and is within walking distance to everything. But just because I say walking distance doesn't mean it's extremely close. We definitely had to walk a little ways to get the downtown area but it was worth it. Rooms were clean, bathroom was small, overall everything was good. Probably won't stay here again because we want something a little bit closer, But if you don't mind walking a lot than this place is totally worth it. read more

Thunderbird Inn - RC cola and moon pies - Hotels Near Me - Savannah, Georgia

After staying for 2 nights at the SpringHill Suites in Savannah, my fiance and I spontaneously decided to stay 1 more night in the city. SpringHill Suites was booked out, as is typical for the summer months in Savannah, so we could not stay there again; I also didn't fancy spending $250+ on a hotel room that we would only be spending one more night in. So we did some searching online for budget motels in the area; some had no vacancy, some were too far out of town to be practical, some had 2 stars on Yelp or just looked sketchy....we didn't like the look of any of them and ended up driving around town to see if we could find somewhere else to stay. Thus we found the Thunderbird Inn. Though we are not typically fond of staying in motels, the inn's grand sign and 60's caught our eye. The place appeared clean, not to mention it just so happened to be literally across the street from the Greyhound station we'd be departing from the next day. We were greeted by a sweet receptionist as we walked into the lobby; she was able to answer our questions about the room, gave us recommendations on things to do in Savannah on our last day there, and was overall very knowledgeable. A room was $140 with the last-minute discount, which the clerk applied without us having to ask. Complimentary popcorn, lemonade, and coffee were downstairs; we took advantage of these throughout the evening. There were free Krispy Kreme donuts of all varieties from 7-10am. When we walked in our room, there were 2 RC Colas on our nightstand and 2 Moon Pies on our pillow; we thought this was a great touch! Our room was furnished with two chairs, mini-fridge, Samsung HD TV and TV stand, and reading lights and small nightstands on both sides of the Queen bed. The mattress felt very new and was comfortable. They offer spa-quality bath products in the bathroom, including lotion. The room was impeccably clean when we entered; I joked to my fiance that it was cleaner than the Marriott we had been staying in the night prior! The motel room was certainly not without flaws, though; some of the blinds were broken and frayed in the corner, letting a lot of light into our room throughout the night. The street noises also kept me up for a while. The bathroom had clearly recently been renovated, but it was a bit small compared to the room; it also bothered me that the light in the bathroom was automatic, blinding me when I used it during the night. These small flaws did not take away from the motel's charm, though; we truly enjoyed our stay and I would strongly recommend it despite these issues. It was a great experience on all fronts. One last thing worth mentioning is that this motel is incredibly eco-friendly, and they are proud of it. They recycle, refill bathroom product containers rather than offering small disposable ones, and offer in-room air conditioning. Our experience at The Thunderbird Inn not only made us feel good about our wallet, but about how we were treating the Earth too. :) read more

I had a great time at the Thunderbird Inn. I wanted something convenient, comfortable and close to the action, without paying $200+ per night. I found the Thunderbird Inn and was very curious to check it out. Firstly, as many other reviews have stated, the service is fantastic. Leo checked us in on arrival, and was personable, friendly and real. It was nice not to get an insincere spiel and speak with someone that cared about their job. I was equally impressed with the young lady working on the AM of the 26th was equally as impressive- printed us direction and was nice to talk to. The rooms were very clean, and much nicer than I anticipated (even seeing the photos before.) The bathroom was itsy bitsy- but the shower had great pressure and was equally clean. I thought it was a tremendous value- and apart from the exterior entrances and small lobby - it was hotel caliber. I'd defiantly come back- and hey- it's a fun "retro" experience! read more

Was a little disappointed when we got there. It didn't look much like the pictures and the furniture in the room was uncomfortable. It had the smallest bathroom of any room I had ever stayed at. I booked the room through Booking.com and believed that all charges were pay at the time of booking. However, a few days after check out changes appeared on my card. I called to see what they were about and could not get an answer. I was told I would have to talk to the manager that was on duty when I checked out. It took over 3 weeks before I was able to talk to her. 45.00 was for parking, which is fine, but was not disclosed at check in. Then there was an 150.00 charge because they said someone had smoked in the room. No one smoked in the room and they could not tell me how they determined that someone had. They just kept repeating that maybe I smoked with the door open. That didn't happen. Maybe they smelled the ashtrays outside each room. Or maybe it was one of the homeless that slept outside the rooms. Don't believe the pictures. I could have overlooked the traffic noise, loud music, other screaming guests and pet smell, but adding charges just because you can is wrong. Very disappointed. If you are looking to a "different" place to stay beware of this one. read more

This is not a negative review. There are a couple of unexpected pluses. The old exterior wall A/C units are not working, having been replace by super-quite Mitsubishi coolers. This machine will put out some serious cold in a short time without hum and thrum. Second is the the hot water to the bath tub. Almost instant. Either we were situated next to a water heater or the owner installed in-line water heaters. The motel is generally clean. Rooms are spartan. Mattress was a "Valley" bed. Slept okay. Suppose YMMV. Some reviewers are rating higher and even fewer, lower based on what they see as their personal bang-to-buck ratio. I'd say this place is over all quite sparse and spare in accouterments and accommodations having in its favor, location to city attraction. I believe a moderate rating is justified. read more

So very noisy and the walls are paper thin. The bed was the BEST and the most comfortable I've slept on in years ! The room was clean and retro but the noise was really over the top. Oh my goodness what an awesome motel!!! Front staff were so friendly, free popcorn, had drinks (beer, wine, soda) for responsible prices inside! Our room was exceptionally clean, quite, nice flat screen TV, bed was very comfy. Only complaint I have is that they didn't have a normal trash can in the bathroom, as a women, it's something that is kinda standard and I didn't like having to walk my trash from the restroom down stairs. But that is the only thing I can say negative don't let that deter you from a cute motel stay. Also, to the owner-the king room we stayed in 222, needs a longer shower curtain or a non rounded shower rod-water just gets all over the floor and will eventually ruin the floor. read more

This certainly wasn't what we were expecting. The pictures on the website made the rooms look much bigger. The website actually had us excited about visiting and as soon as we saw it we lost that excitement. It was nothing more than a basic 20 unit sidewalk hotel with a different paint scheme. I will say that the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were freshly painted and seemed clean, although there were bugs ( like fruit flies) crawling around the bathroom sink the whole stay. The location is on the edge of town and traffic noise was plentiful. All in all it was at a good price point for the area and I wouldn't say that I wouldn't stay there again but I would probably spend some extra money for something a little bigger. read more

Came across the Thunderbird Inn while googling Savannah hotels, since I was spending time there for a conference-- and all the conference-suggested hotels were ridiculously expensive. NOT THE THUNDERBIRD! :) They were not only very reasonably priced, but also less than a two-minute walk to the Coastal Georgia Center, where my event was located. SUPER friendly staff, always accommodating and on-hand 24 hours a day. Spencer at the front desk even let me email him my boarding pass so he could print it off. Their in-shower shampoo, conditioner and bath gel smell awesome! The moon pies on the pillows were a cute (and delicious!) touch-- when I was there, they were chocolate-mint ones. NOM. I got a sweet surprise on Saturday when RC colas accompanied the treats. And fresh Krispy Kremes available in the mornings are always welcome. ;) There was a bit of construction going on while I had my stay, but even though it was loud, that's to be expected with construction-- and it was never too early in the AM or late in the PM. I honestly think it's too bad that such big structures seem to be going up all around this lovely little gem. Beds are comfy, bathrooms (albeit small) are clean. Easy walk to all downtown Savannah amenities. While this isn't the "5-star" luxury spot some look for while on vacation, the hospitable staff, affordable rates and central location make the Thunderbird Inn a cute and kitschy spot that I would recommend to anyone heading to Savannah. Thank you for the great experience. read more
