I did not get to stay at Thunderbird Inn. I am traveling through the area and I love this hotel I am always hoping to have time to stay in Savannah for a few nights. Inside the fresh clean lobby, you can purchase Stuckys treats and postcards. Everyone is so nice here. The rooms are clean and the retro theme works well with the downtown area of Savannah. Check it out! Super cool.

Super cute! And reasonable. Short walk to bars/restaurants. TV set up is annoying if you wanna use it. But I would definitely stay there again.

If you're visiting Savannah and need to do so on a budget, the Thunderbird Inn is a great and affordable option! This restored motel is full of color and charm, from the large neon sign out front to the colorful panels lining the exterior. It's a classic motel setup with large windows facing busy Oglethorpe Avenue. Inside the rooms are large and clean with some RC Cola and Moonpies to greet you. There's a retro, Formica bathroom vanity and small bathroom to the side with shower and toilet. Wifi is free and the shower was fast and hot, I was a happy boy. At the front office you can grab a coffee and fancy donut every morning before you start your day. Downtown Savannah is easily walkable from the Inn. The only drawback is the road noise out front along with the occasional siren from an emergency vehicle. Not a big deal for me but what can you do with a budget hotel offering? Overall I was really happy with my stay at the Thunderbird Inn but YMMV. If you're an easy-going, no-frills hotel room type person, you'll be perfectly happy with the accommodations here.

Black mold. Smells strong. Nighttime attendant not helpful.

Beware of the hundreds of reviews overshadowing this one, and I see now it is not the only one. Black mold in room. Smelled and looked bad and ovvious. They don't care. I feel they put all these five star reviews here to cover the real issue. Be prepared to move rooms or ask for your money back!!! It was too late at night for me to do so! the staff is NOT friendly at night!!! Dog bathroom park was also VERY small.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Thunderbird Inn! The room was super clean and comfortable. We were able to walk anywhere we wanted from the Inn.

Traveling with your pup? You must stay here. Thunderbird Inn is located within walking distance ( although a long walk) from the River district in Savannah. You can park your car & leave it here for various transportation as well. But, First let me tell you about my check- in experience at this kitschy 50's style motel. I was greeted by a super friendly front desk clerk who promptly handed me 2 packages, 1 for each dog containing a large biscuit with the name of the Inn carved into it & a red shaped heart tag. How adorable! I was told there are donuts ( yummy) and coffee, tea available 24/7 and there is also a fresh popcorn machine there in the office. The nice size pet relief station ( complete with poop bags) is around the side and fenced in. The parking lot is tight but it was great for us because it made our 1 st floor stay ( all dogs on 1st floor) easy to bring the bags & dogs without stairs. Next to the red 50's style phone were 2 cans of RC Cola & 2 Moon Pies for us humans. The room while small is very comfortable and super clean. The sink is outside the bathroom which is super small but big enough to do the basics. If you're a very large person you may find the bathroom uncomfortable. The bed was really comfortable ( as you can see in my pics) They charge a 1 x pet fee no matter how long you stay and no matter how many pets. There is also a $15 parking fee for your stay, reasonable. The only warning is if you are a light sleeper you might be disturbed by the road noise at night as the motel is close to a busy road. It did not bother us & we had a great stay at a super reasonable price.

Husband and I stayed three nights. Pros: Delightful retro hotel with cute phito ops Bed was very comfortable with five pillows Super friendly staff Clean room with moon pies and RC cola to greet you Cold AC Walkability Enjoyed the coffee and assorted fresh donuts daily Popcorn was yummy too Cons: It is noisy if you are a light sleeper $15 daily parking but were very clear upfront

We had a comfy stay at the Thunderbird. I loved how supportive without being too firm your back hurts bed and the substantial pillows. After a long day seeing the sights all over the historic district and other areas, having to come home to the luxury of a comfortable bed is such a blessing. The front office desk staff is always cordial and reminds us there are donuts, coffee and/or tea available. For some reason, the donuts tasted really good! Sweet without being saccharine, and chewy in every bite. The coffee is just good old strong coffee, a welcome break from the froufrou coffees (no offense, Starbucks. You know I love you, too). From the hotel, the historic district is really an easy walk (with good shoes, of course).

Don't fall for the charm. Stop and take photos from outside, and find someplace else to stay. I'm giving this place 2 stars. It's a motel. And it's exterior charm and authentic-throwback is what makes this place swoon-worthy. And that's it. I can't speak for the rest of the rooms, but our room needs some major updating and cleaning. Since waking and seeing our room in day light, on check-out day, I've modified my original posting. This room cost us $200- and we aren't too happy with the our overall experience. As we rushed to pack to catch a flight, I noticed some things I didn't originally notice. When we checked in, we were running behind to get ready for dinner reservations for a special occasion. When we first entered the room, we were met with an incredibly humid room. Despite messing with the thermostat during our stay, we never could figure out the humidity situation. Which was odd because outside wasn't as nearly as humid as the room. I noticed a small gap at the bottom of the door, where the door wasn't aligning well with the frame. Next day/check out day, I noticed the gap was larger than I had originally noticed, and the top of the door also had a gap where the elements and light were freely pouring in. (Shown in photos). The bathroom was okay, until I pulled back the shower curtain (ofc before checkout) and there was build up and grime on the exterior of shower. Yucky. Grime and filth by the door (shown in photos). Next day I also noticed the scent of mold in the bathroom was a lot stronger than it was the previous day (check-in day). Not sure if deodorized by staff before check in or what? Checkout day, with better natural lighting I saw dust coated on the blinds, and some sort of speckling. Same on the lampshades (shown in photos). The chairs, again, didn't see till checkout day, I saw all sorts of dots on the chairs. I'm quite positive it was mold spores, but I cannot be for certain. But I do know it is in-fact not apart of the material/patterning because the identical chair next to it did not have the same markings. Overall, this was a poor stay. Thankfully we spent most of our time away, than in- and it was only for one evening. The room needs a deep clean, a new air unit. Maintenance on the door, new chairs, new blinds (or deep cleaned). A bonus would be if they could add better sound barriers or something. Being across from the bus station, and right off the highway, the traffic, and foot traffic was very noisy.

Ring a ding beautifully preserved piece of history! Comfortable clean beds in a cool renovated mid century modern motel. Street noise was not uncommon. Bus stop right outside and sirens were plentiful. Bring earplugs and a mask. Good coffee and even better doughnuts for breakfast! Excellent staff and management! If you buy a mug check it for cracks because mine was full on leaking and cracked.

I was solo traveling Savannah and it was my first time visiting the city. I chose The Thunderbird Inn for the aesthetic and it was so cute!! I loved every second I stayed here. Every staff member I encountered were so friendly and always had a smile on their face which was awesome! It made me feel welcomed at their establishment. My favorite part was by far the donuts, which I will not be dreaming of until I come to Savannah again. Like I stated earlier , I was solo traveling and I'm a 20 year old girl and I felt safe the whole time, it's in a good area. Thank you Mark and everyone at The Thunderbird inn, you are appreciated!

I have absolutely NO idea why people aren't giving this place 5 stars!!?? We had a terrible experience at a legitimately horrible and unsafe place "Inn on 17" so if all of y'all that are complaining truly want to know what BAD is, then go there!! We were so relieved when we arrived at Thunderbird Inn! Leslie & Sean we're at the front desk and both greeted us with a smile and we're extremely welcoming! The staff is very nice and will go above and beyond to make sure you have a great stay! The Inn is super cute, safe, extremely clean, and when you open the door to your room you're welcomed with moon pies & RC Cola! Thunderbird is within walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and activities. The only thing is we did here traffic, sirens, and people some throughout the night, but that's no fault of the Inn. I pretty much get that anywhere no days. Even with the noise we heard I would definitely stay again! Thank y'all for a great experience, you really turned our trip around for us!!

Very little storage space. No end tables by the bed, just open shelves. A stupid high-tech bedside Lenovo tablet that appeared to do nothing other than tell the time (had two alarms) and weather - and shine light on you all night long, like it or not. The bed was topped with a pillowtop that felt like someone had stuffed eight inches of cotton balls into a sack - overly soft. Bathroom was a hair too dark (everyone we saw staying here is on the downhill side of what's optimistically called "middle age" - you need more light in the bathroom) for basic getting ready in the morning. Downstairs lobbies were pretty (and crowded) and also had nowhere decent to type. Utterly quiet, though. The quality of the materials used in the construction of the place was terrific; I can see why it's a pricey joint. Pretty decor all over and lovely seating in the public areas. TV worked fine and interfaced well with your electronics from home. Good WiFi throughout the property. Good charging ports found where you'll want them. Good blackout shades. Shower was fantastic. Lots of towels. Good bars on site. Completely, utterly, perfectly clean - and that's _despite_ being a pet-friendly place with heavy doggie presence. And every staff member was friendly and polite and lovely. And to top it off, the perfect location. Too many issues for it to be a five-star at this price point, but it's certainly very nice. So many nice things (especially the staff, cleanliness and location) that I'm sad not to give it five stars. Happy we stayed here at Perry Lane.

Our room was absolutely beautiful and comfortable. Honestly, one of the best beds I have ever slept on. Perfect if you have jet lag. On that note, by the third and final night, Friday, this past weekend, we learned that the cobblestone street outside was quite noisy as well. Fortunately, on weekend, just after midnight, revelry noise level moves down from the billiard Halls across from our room. (Ear plugs were furnished in the room :-) Even so, we enjoyed the balcony for the mornings and pre-dinner hour: it was ambience into our room as we were getting ready for our various comings/goings. This hotel has long term leases on almost all of level P3 of the Whittaker Street Parking Garage…read more Other private businesses with long term leases on spots mark the spots to inform people not to lark. Andaz Savannah Hyatt does not post signs nor mark the spots nor have any gate or signs to know what part of the garage they leased. Instead have sensors in the unmarked spots and tow without bothering to post any sign. Completely predatory. Sensors cost more than signs. They should put up signs. This is a very unethical dirty hotel that is doing harm to the city and the community. I went to a conference in Savannah, and carpooled with a coworker. We had gone to park at the Whittaker Street Parking Garage. On level P3, we went through an open gate to get in, and then needed a swipe card to get out. Half that floor is marked with "reserved for" signs, hanging from the ceiling and on the wall and concrete support columns by each parking spot. Those were something like reserved for a condo or something, not Andaz. Half is not marked at all. This is like a line down the middle half. The south part of the garage was marked; the north part was not. Line down the middle like 2 sections. Because the half that was marked said towing, my coworker had stayed in the car, and I went to go find the parking attendant to confirm we were parked in a public paid spot. On the street level, the security for Savannah said that where we were parked was OK, and that all reserved spots have to be marked. She told me where to find the parking attendant. The parking attendant said that all reserved spots are marked, and that unmarked spots are for the public paid parking. I went back to the car to tell my coworker that we were good to go. Well, it had taken me easily 20 minutes due to there is one single attendant. Lucky us, because when I got back, an Andaz Savannah Hyatt employee was there with my coworker saying he would towed. Apparently, rather than put up signs in their reserved spots, the Andaz Savannah Hyatt puts sensors pointed at each spot to detect a car, and then orders a tow. A sensor has to cost more than a sign. That's so dirty and immoral to not post a sign, and then to tow people. The two employees of the city and of the parking garage said that that was a public paid spot based on there not being any posted signs that it was reserved. Andaz Savannah Hyatt just cannot be bothered to communicate. They will tow, bill for the tow, mess up transmission on a four wheel drive, and stick that whole mess of theirs onto regular people. Because they can't be bother to even post a sign. Also to leave, we had to drive out an "in" gate, which apparently they leave the "in" gate permanently up for cars to drive through, then have a billing "out" gate that you have to swipe the card and be billed to leave. Like a trap. No signs when you come in, and no signs on their entire half of the P3 level. I am certain what they are doing is illegal, to tow without having any posted signs at all on their half of the garage. When I searched, Georgia law requires 12x18 inch no parking signs or a sign at the gate. Andaz Savannah Hyatt had a permanently open gate for entrance, closed gate for exit, and absolutely no signs on what the employee of Andaz said was the Andaz parking. And said he would have towed if my coworker weren't there in the car. Well, it's travelers and tourists, so Andaz Savannah Hyatt can get away with it, because they rob from people who don't live in the city. They break the law, and harm the community. This hotel is doing dirty. What else are they doing. Nope, nope, nope. Badly run and cannot be trusted. Even if you are not a customer, the Andaz Savannah Hyatt will harm you just for being nearby.

My room was clean and the bathroom was noteworthy for being immaculate - not always the case in the South. Bed was comfortable and the room had all that I needed for a comfortable 3 night stay. My only criticism is the noise level. Even on the 5th floor, the noise from the road was loud. Bring earplugs to drown out the early morning delivery trucks!

I would think that quiet hours for the pool would be 9 PM, but apparently they aren't. I believe they are 10 PM. There was a group of what appeared to be teenagers screaming nonstop for about three hours straight. I don't know, if I was staff at a hotel, I would probably tell them to keep it down after 8 PM, but that's just me. It sounds like the rooms on the other side of the hotel are really noisy as well, so I guess moving and wouldn't have done much. The valet took a really long time in the morning. I wouldn't have minded that if they would have told us in the beginning, but when you check in, they tell you to give them five minutes to retrieve your vehicle. It took the guy 20 minutes to respond to my request (I was first in the queue) and I had to go walk down and grab the car myself because I needed to leave immediately. It sounds like he was managing two properties, so not his fault. When not knowing where the valet was, the front desk wasn't helpful. She kind of dismissed the issue. She did end up calling him, but she didn't act like she cared about our situation at all in the beginning. It actually prompted us to take action and another gentleman waiting for his car went and looked in the valet garage to see if somebody was even there because he was having the same issues. Anyways, my first and last time staying at this hotel. Too many other options in the area. I really need a reliable valet, unfortunately.

There's something bittersweet about Hotel Bardo. It feels like someone really cared when they built…read moreit -- beautiful design, thoughtful touches, and great amenities. But since then, it seems like no one's paid attention to the details that actually make a stay feel 5-star. We stayed just one night and noticed several things that made the experience feel less than premium: * Curtain was literally held together with paper clips * Bathroom sink barely drained * No "do not disturb" hanger for the door, had to request one * Vacuuming started in the hallway at 7:15am * Gym had beautiful treadmills with screens and free earbuds -- but the internet was down, so none of t worked To their credit, they did offer to send someone to fix the sink... but on a one-night stay, why would I want to spend part of it with someone working on the pipes in my bathroom? That's something that should be checked before a guest ever walks into the room. There were some nice touches: a complimentary car service, wooden room keys, a convenient texting system, and solid amenities (though we didn't use many of them). That said, I couldn't help but feel like we were placed in a neglected room -- possibly because the stay was part of an Amex Platinum perk. And honestly, if I'd paid $275-$400+ out of pocket for this room, I'd be much more upset. Not trying to be petty -- but let's be real: at a true 5-star hotel, I expect a seamless experience where my basic needs are handled without me having to ask. Hotel Bardo, unfortunately, missed that mark.

The cons; during our stay, we had trouble the entire time getting the room to cool down, we had the air set at 64 but could not get the temp of the room beneath 73. I complained once and they said maintenance would take a look but nothing happened and I didn't get a follow up. We didn't get informed about ANY of the imenities of the property when we checked in including hotel cars, bikes, etc... also, the front desk staff told us there were pickleball and tennis courts so we walked over only to be let down that the courts were just for tennis, why would they lie about that? Lastly, it was dissapointing when we would go out to the pool and couldn't get two chairs for the both of us. All in all, I would probably go back but with some reservations, I agree with other reviews you don't get what you pay for here from a service perspective and 5 star treatment.
