Here's the thing. I've literally never felt the need to leave a review, but I love this place and its vibe and it's so close (10min walk and I loveee walking) to me, I really WANT this to be my every day spot because of how sick and, tbh, convenient it is. But the two times I went (technically went three times but on the third I just bought a bottled drink), the matcha.... she could have been better. She was not fabulous. Unfortunately it was not great. And I say this with so much love!!! The baristas were so sweet. Maybe it was just the days? But I'm posting this review because I genuinely hope either I went on off days/times/stock or that the owner sees this and looks to improving their matcha. The interior has plush seats of assortment and decorated on theme naturally with an American Vintage aesthetic. Love the ambiance here. This is my new coffee spot when in search of something comfy and cozy. The leather couch is my favorite. It's like being in a public living room. The baristas are all super friendly and greet you with a warm smile. The cold brew is delicious. Just a little cream added makes it exceptional. Been to this place twice and I can say it's a cool and solid spot. Great place to catch up with friends or work with some cool decor. The outside patio is nice and is dog friendly. The first time I came here I had monkey bread and the second time I tried the meatless burrito. They told me the burrito is premade so I didn't have high hopes but surprisingly it was pretty good. The coffee is ok. I wouldn't say it's the absolute best but it does its job. Also wish they would've warmed up the monkey bread. Maybe I should've just asked. Either way I'll be back! :-) read more

I have to admit I was bummed when Blackwood closed but wow Thunder Road Cafe swooped in and managed to open up an even more amazing spot! First off the ambience...the way they transformed the inside seating area is top notch! It's cozy, welcoming and still manages to be hip and edgy. Major improvement! We actually went back to back days for this review. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon just to check them out and I grabbed a glass of wine. Wine was perfect and what a setting to just relax in for a spell. Next morning we went for some lattes and sat outside. Definitely an upgrade to the seating outside but they did trim the branches on the trellis a bit so you're not as protected from the sun. Hopefully the leaves grow back in quickly. Lattes were so smooth I went and grabbed another to go. Will definitely be back! Oh and they have parking in the back now. Score! read more

I stumbled on this cafe while I was working in the area and I was amazed. I love that this cafe is clean, has parking and the street nearby has cute shops and tree lined sidewalks! This is the latest venture from the inimitable Umbrella Hospitality, a solo project by Austin Melrose. I've now dropped in a couple times and can say with certainty this is a next-level coffee shop. First, the coffee- debuting their own brand, Octane, you can essentially choose the roast based on popular gasoline strength. 89 as a medium roast is my favorite, silky and earthy notes- try it with a latte for sure. Roasting is perfect and baristas are friendly and prompt. Bags of Octane are available for purchase, which brings me to the next selling point- the atmosphere. This is layered with a delicate balance of two things that often would never go together- a chilled coffee shop vibe and vintage motorcylces built into the decor. Old helmets populate the shelving right next to retail items. The shop opens out to a brick-lined patio that looks more like a 1944 French Resistance alcove, quiet and enclosed by trees- good spot for work meetings actually. As it's a coffee shop, atmosphere is quiet, clientele seem chill, and speaking of chilling out, the retail section also sports a great fridge for alcoholic beverages available for purchase. This is a new coffee shop that just opened on historic Route 66 in the West Hollywood area. Motorcycle enthusiasts--especially cafe racer fans--will love the vibe. The space has an outdoor patio, parking in the back, and they also serve food, beer, and wine. The owner is the same behind Melrose Umbrella Company, so you know it's a thoughtfully designed spot with plenty of cool details. It definitely shows in the decor. This is mostly a review for the matcha. It was so bad its the first matcha I've ever returned. It was bitter and tasted like rotten grass. Well, this is wonderful development! An excellent wee cafe in a spot that has been home to a few such eateries over the years, but now fully inspired and powered by the neighboring Thunder Road Classic Motorcycles. As such one can safely say it has a truly unique ambiance driving the location. Service is both friendly and welcoming, and the coffee (an Americano in my case) and comestibles ( a nice big oatmeal and raisin cookie) most tasty. It is also licensed to sell beer and wine! I am a coffee snob and the cappuccino I had today was probably the best coffee I've had in a long time. The coffee had an intense smooth flavor and the oatmilk was frothed correctly. My only criticism is the froth to milk ratio was a little off (too much milk) but it was still better than the vast majority of caps I have had. Coffee was US 9.5/10 and Europe 8.5/10 (for froth ratio and no chocolate dusting). If I lived closer this would be my daily. EDIT: I went back for a cappuccino and ended up with a mediocre latte so revised this down from 5 to 3 stars. I guess not everyone making coffee is trained to the same level. read more

OBSESSED with this new cafe! Decor and ambience is spot on. Great coffee made with excellent milk options and delicious pastries and snacks makes it the superior choice in the neighborhood. My friend had a couple of glasses of wine with cheese and crackers and I felt like we were in an uber cool living room relaxing. I love being able to walk through to the motorcycle shop next door. Next level bikes! Opening and closing times at the cafe are appreciated. No rushing to leave! All the staff are truly wonderful which is a rarity. Walked right in greeting with a friendly uplifting warm reception. After ordering my coffee was ask for a pastry to buy. I got the monkey bread. The person at the counter did ask if I wanted my pastry warmed up. My coffee and pastry came out really fast. Great service also when I left I was thanked for coming to the establishment. read more

Atmosphere is great, but the technique on classics like a cappuccino, flat white, cortado, etc, is off. Usually the espresso seems to be over extracted and the microfoam isn't quite velvety enough, the milk is being made too hot, even scalding, and is being over-aerated, separating the milk from the foam. It's hard to pay the prices when the quality is closer to a home machine. Keep supporting but hopefully TRC will get this in check and implement training to keep up. read more
