We have tried unsuccessfully to develop a treatment plan with the staff that works for my son, for us and his outside psychiatrist. I was only allowed to speak to a doctor AFTER he already decided on his own what med to put my son on and in the same conversation, I was told they are ready to discharge him tomorrow. The drug he chose is 1) old school medication from the 1960's - there are much newer ones out there with fewer side effects and 2) My son was given an injection of it - so we are stuck with that one for the next month and 3) the side effects of this drug are a huge concern for my son, since the drug they chose can trigger some of the issues he has had in the past (which I could have told them if they had consulted with me about it). I did notice that the more I tried to get involved with my son's recovery, the more distant the staff was to me. I have contacted Disability Rights Texas. Reading the other reviews broke my heart even more, especially since they are dated during this same time period in 2019! =(

When I asked to leave to seek proper care, they filed court paperwork to keep me there. My approved vegetarian diet (ordered day one) was not honored. Every single meal I was told "you're vegan" and that my request needed approval--then asked for my name to "check if it was ordered." This happened daily. I would sit through most of the meal time with nothing, only to be given scraps like an old PB&J, a plain vegetarian patty, or lettuce with a packet of ranch. Other patients even noticed and spoke up because of how poorly I was treated. When I asked for the correct food, staff talked about me loudly and disrespectfully within earshot, and I felt mocked. I only saw my assigned caseworker once, yet my family was told I was being seen regularly. Most concerning were safety issues--another patient's vitals were charted under my name, and I was given blood pressure medication despite already having very low blood pressure. Disorganized staff, poor communication, and basic care were lacking. Patients deserve far better than this. I would strongly caution anyone considering this facility. But at least you can rely on being billed for care that you didn't receive and food that you never got to eat. this place is nothing but a insurance scam.

This was possibly the single most regrettable mistake I have ever made in my life, and I am a person who once dated a guy into competitive yoyoing. Within fifteen minutes of meeting me, Dr. Calzada had not only ignored everything I had to say but also diagnosed me with borderline (I exhibit no traits of borderline), declared that my depression was a result of the "negative self-image" I'd cultivated due to my parents' "negative treatment of me as a young child" (not true), diagnosed my FATHER with depression and borderline (????), and told me a 20-minute story about an anorexic girl who couldn't recognize that she wasn't overweight and subsequently died (an uplifting, optimistic tale that greatly boosted my spirits). Literally the only reason I didn't get up and leave was because I needed my prescriptions; I spent the entire hour with a fake grin plastered on my face, smiling and nodding and just waiting for the minute hand to tick over until I could finally leave. "He's not going to be your therapist," I told myself internally, grappling with the idea of continuing to see him for medication management, "so you don't actually need to have a rapport with him," but considering I felt more in-tune with a psychiatrist from years ago whose intake paperwork included the question "are you homosexual" (gotta love in-network providers) I could barely imagine myself coming back and subjecting myself to another few months of this. I can't give this practice zero stars, but I suppose they do deserve one star: an appointment was made by the office staff, the chairs were comfortable, I was offered water, and Dr. Calzada did end up writing my prescriptions -- at least, for a medication I couldn't possibly afford. When I reached out to the office to help me fill out some paperwork for a patient assistance program, I learned it would be another $100 for them to help me fill out the paperwork (which I needed because, you know, I couldn't afford my medication). I have not contacted the practice since and, thankfully, neither have they contacted me. If I had a time machine, I'd go back and tell myself to fork out the extra $100-200 to see another psychiatrist. ANY other psychiatrist. Or I'd just buy two of those Bigfoot sculptures and set them on either side of my desk, spurred into productivity by the look of intensity in their twin hand-painted resin-cast visages.
