My husband and I decided to give Anita a try when we realized that we were still holding onto beliefs from our childhood that were no longer true, but we couldn't "unbelieve" them. Having seen many therapists and psychiatrists in my day and being in the mental health field myself, I was intrigued that there was a way to tap into the deepest levels of a person's mind, past their subconscious, into their unconscious where most of our memories created up to the age 6 are stored. These are the memories that deeply shape our beliefs about ourselves, others and the world around us. Sometimes they are referred to as "schemas." My dad was an unpredictable alcoholic as far back as I can remember which left my mom relentlessly stressed, having to work 2-3 jobs to support us 3 kids, using alcohol to cope, and many times making us feel like heavy burdens. Needless to say, since before I can remember, I have always felt a bit unlovable due to being neglected/abandoned and while I became aware of this through conventional therapy, I could never quite fully eradicate my fear of abandonment. These beliefs contributed to me be overly sensitive at times and a bit controlling. After leaving Anita's office after my first and only session, I experienced an all-encompassing intense connection with everything around me as I walking to my car! It was like the trees, clouds, birds, grass, butterflies and even the random people in the parking lot were love, my "true" family that had never abandoned me. My fears and "untrue" beliefs had never allowed me to see or feel how much love is always surrounding me! That's the only way I can explain it. This thought popped into my head, "Your mother and father brought you into this world, but you have never been abandoned." A deep sense of peace came over me and I sat in my car for at least 30 minutes, with the door open to maintain the comforting connection that was permeating from my surroundings. Succumbing to this new understanding I wept with intense gratitude. My husband had a lifelong unshakeable fear that if he didn't work franticly and seize every opportunity to make money that he, and now we, would end up extremely poor, like the way he grew up. This caused him to work franticly, putting in long hours, and he could never fully relax if he thought he was missing a money making opportunity which was always. After my husband's session with Anita I noticed that he seemed to be more relaxed, less stressed and more present in the moment. I thought maybe I was imagining it or that possibly the profound experience I had after my session was causing me to read more into his behavior than what was really there. The next morning I woke up to see my four year old was still at home, not at preschool, and she was laughing and playing with her dad, my husband ;) I asked him, "What's going on, don't you have to work today, why is she still home?" He said, "I don't know, I just wanted to spend time with her today, I'm not that busy." I said, "What? You, not busy? Really??" He said, "Yeah, I don't know, I just feel calm." As soon as he said it we looked at each other in disbelief knowing that what he said was an extremely unusual statement coming from him. I said, "I can't remember the last time I've ever heard you say you were "not busy," and in the twenty-five years I've known you, I don't think I've ever heard you use the word "calm," especially to describe how you're feeling, not even on vacation!" He agreed and we both had to acknowledge that whatever magic Anita performed on us in our sessions the day before freed us in some way...FYI... I first heard about Anita when I stumbled onto her website in my search for a conventional counselor/therapist. Although I was hesitant to try something new, I was intrigued by the premise of Theta Healing, so I researched it further and decided to give it a try. In hindsight I realize that finding Anita while I was looking for something/someone else was a gift. I know now that she was precisely what my husband and I needed at that exact time. The email I wrote to Anita a couple of days after our 2nd session is below. I was shocked, floored, stunned, thrilled, ecstatic, incredulous and deeply grateful. 48 years of intense, debilitating motion sickness GONE. Is that what I started seeing her for? No! But let me tell you, it's the most gratifying feeling to know that you can bring anything to her and SLAY IT. I'm a fan. A devoted one. "Anita, I am SO excited to tell you about my flights yesterday. I did prepare as usual, rituals at the ready and a small dose of Dramamine in my system before the first flight, which was very short and the kind I usually dread: all ascent and descent, not much steady flying. BUT, we landed in Dallas, and during my layover what did I do? Instead of sitting quietly and nibbling at a banana to calm my stomach, I found myself sitting in a restaurant ordering nachos! Can you believe it?!? I remained extremely calm and comfortable the entire travel day, with only a few brief moments of actual nausea and anxiety on the plane. I did rub my necklace and listen to music, but honestly, I wasn't nearly as focused on it as usual and the need was half-hearted at best. I made sure to keep a small dose of Dramamine in my system at all times, just in case, and successfully made it to NY remarkably intact! Anxiety was low, stomach very calm, only a slight headache which is usual. I was beside myself with glee and couldn't stop chattering in the car drive to Brooklyn! Even in the car I was perfectly fine in the passenger seat, and again later going to dinner, I sat in the backseat! My friends were astonished and wanted to know everything about this huge change, which I told them over dinner. Fascinating stuff. I'm positively ecstatic. And here was my mantra during the flights: I simply imagined my 4 year old self in the seat, and said to her "you are perfectly safe and calm". That's all. My session with Anita was transformational. I went to her in May 2016 with several issues, the most difficult of which was nearly constant "suicidal videos" my mind obsessively ran almost daily for over a year. Whenever triggered by the noise level of my then 2 year old twins, I would become extremely distressed and my mind would repeat videos of me taking my life. I was not suicidal, I absolutely knew I would not act on the thoughts, and was very aware that my life is truly and deeply blessed by my children and my opportunity to be at home raising them. I had tried all sorts of reasoning with myself, affirmations, counseling etc. all to no avail. Raising young children to the standard I hold myself to requires a lot of energy, and I have little support. It's also very rewarding, but the "videos" were completely wearing me out. Throughout my life I started noticing I had a really bad habit of self sabotaging my relationships and career opportunities. I began working with Anita almost two years ago. Before that time I had not ever worked with a life coach. My girlfriend had been seeing her for a few months and suggested that I go. Anita is so empathetic and wise, and her unique approach to healing and therapy really WORKS! I had been suffering from so much anxiety, and when the war started in Ukraine, where my family is refugees from the former USSR, is from, I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown. I've utilized Anita's couching for 4 years now off and on. I've tried traditional counseling in the past and Anita's technique is by far the most effective. Anita is really so good at what she does - what a gift she has.
