This place is the worst ever. Of course, the Thrifty Car Rental company everywhere is among the worst companies I've ever had the misfortune of working with. I had a car rented at the Atlanta airport and was supposed to return it there. Then my plans changed and I called Thrifty and asked if I could return it at the Charleston SC airport location and they said I could not because "it wasn't a corporate location". (Consider how stupid and inconvenient to the customer this policy is!!!) So, since I was in Savannah at that moment (on my way to Charleston), I asked the representative if I could return it at the Savannah airport location and SHE SAID YES!!!! (Notice that she could have told me to go to a Thrifty corporate location in the city, but, noooooo, she didn't) And the information she gave me was WRONG!!
I drove 15 miles to the airport and went to their desk where the young lady said, "Oh, we're not a corporate location." So I asked, "but can I return the car here?" And the woefully undertrained person said, "Yes, but I don't know how to log it in the system but my boss will be here in 5 hours and he'll do it for me." So I gave her the keys and went to another company to rent a car that I could return at the Charleston airport and went on my way.
After a few days, I received emails and calls from the Thrifty "security department" that I was apparently stealing their car because I had not returned it!!! I told the person that I had indeed returned it at Savannah airport but they said they had no record of it. I asked if he would call the Savannah location and confirm but he refused. He promised to fax them an inquiry the next Monday because we don't work on weekends. (ahhh, now THAT's customer service!)
I continued to receive emails and calls suggesting that I still had their car. So I made my umpteenth call to them and they again told me that they'd fax Savannah. I asked them to give me the direct number for the Savannah location and they refused. So I went online and did 15 minutes of clever Googling and found the direct number and called Savannah. There a young woman (not the first one) agreed to look for the car and after 15 minutes on hold, she told me she did find the car!!! I asked for her name and asked her to contact the Thrifty security department and tell them they had the car and she agreed. And she did it! Hooray for her!
Now I'm involved in a four month long dispute since they charged me for the entire week although I had the car for four days. If Savannah's first person hadn't screwed up, I would not have had this agony. But if Thrifty's lying billing and security departments had been fully conscious and had they cared about customer satisfaction, well I'd be in good shape. My decision: never rent from Thrifty or from their sister companies ever again. It's so nice that there are many alternatives. read more
