The proceeds and donated items go towards building homes for low income individuals/ families that can receive a mortgage based on income. At least that was what it was when it first started. (I had the opportunity to volunteer on a renovation of a home as a youth and found it a rewarding experience to meet the homeless family that would be moving into the finished structure.)
