    woman who is transphobic

NOT LGBT FRIENDLY OR OTHERWISE! I've been going here for years and the other day my boyfriend was confronted by a worker. she asked if he "needed anything specific, because this is the women's section" As if it matters what section he shops! Please stay away. You could be singled out for being transgender or just trying to shop. NEVER GOING BACK, RUINED. Picture of woman who said it attached.

Great finds, I found a brand new with tags over the door hanger store price 6.99 they priced it at $3.99 but payed around $1.50 since they had a sale going on. They usually have a lot of sales through the week and weekend, Also donated some clothes and items very kind staff in the back, I will attached donation times.

    The "not an ornament" ornament

Writing reviews for a thrift store is tricky since your experience is largely dependent on the inventory. You can go to a thrift nine times and come out empty-handed, but if on the tenth time you find, say, a vintage, unused Mont Blanc fountain pen (true story) then it's all worth it. There might be buried treasure at Thrift Center, but I will never know because my first trip there will be my only. Customer service here is...lacking. I'm not talking surly, "I'm having a bad day" bad, but the kind of toxic gaslighting that nobody should put up with. After visiting ECOthrift up the road (which I highly recommend), Yelp directed me to Thrift Center. The sign on the front door noted that all Christmas items were 50% off. After perusing the housewares and seasonal items, I found a vintage Christmas swan ornament. It didn't spark any joy for the price tag of $1.99, but at half-off, it sparked enough that I decided to purchase it. While paying at the cash register, it rang up at over $2. Confused, I mentioned how I thought it was half-off. The male cashier "corrected" me and said only yellow and white tags were on sale. I started digging through my purse to find my wallet and then remembered the sign on the front door. Pointing to it, I said, "Sign says half-off Christmas." At this point, he should have acknowledged the mistake and given me the correct price. But, no, this is how the rest of the exchange went: Him: (holding up the ornament) You think this is Christmas stuff? Me: Um, yeah, it's an ornament. Him: (after a pause, he begrudgingly says) I guess I can give it to you at half-off. Seriously?? The sad part is, like I said, the ornament sparked a bit of joy for a buck. Now, every time I look at it, I feel a rush of irritation.

One of my favorite thrift stores in Hayward. So far I've had luck with this place. It's always a hit or miss when you go thrifting. Some days I find things that fall under the color sticker discounts and some days I don't. There are some items I do come by that are slightly overpriced but I get lucky and come back on weekends or when they have 50% on everything. The employees here are nice and always greet me when I come in. Bring your own shopping bag if you can. There is a shortage in shopping bags. I've found many items here this past year. My latest come up with these MCM chairs. $20 each plus 30% off this past weekend on everything. I collect Pyrex and vintage kitchen stuff and find things here and there. I did come by some Pyrex last year but was severely damaged so I passed. I have found cute little aprons for my kids and brand new toys and picture frames too. Overall if you are patience and willing to look you might find something.

Ikea price for pots I found here priced $6.99 each

I do not know how this place is staying in business. The prices here are absurdly high. I was excited to see plant pots here until I saw the prices... they are charging more than double retail?

Come early as the parking lot can get full. Always grab a cart because there is so much good stuff. Or not-up to you. I like to peruse almost every aisle, looking at each item of clothing- I got a whole system down. Of course I'm paying attention to the color tag sale of the day, but if it's cute, it's going in the cart. The women's section is great but the men's section is good too. Their racks are packed full. They don't have fitting rooms but there are mirrors if you'd want to pull something over your clothes to try on. What's great is that they also have bathrooms. Very convenient especially when you're shopping a long time. The store also has kids clothes, shoes, small furniture, housewares, toys etc. Did I mention they have a lot of stuff? The store is clean, organized and the employees are friendly. Some items can be pricey, sure, but it's all about rummaging through to find those hidden gems and getting a good deal. I think it's fun. I truly love this place and always come back when I'm in town.

I said, I'm calling a thrift store and I don't know if this is who you are. He reply Yes. I said as a business you should say hello this the thrift shop to confirm to people you are a business. He replies, you called me! Rude; after I just explained why he needs to act like a professional and reference the business. I tell him I'm not from Hayward and willing to drive there if you would do a quick look to see if you have any CD players and cassette players for a stereo system, not a boom box. He said he thinks he has some. I explain I am willing to drive if he has some, but don't want to if he doesn't. He say, yes I think we have some. I ask will you please confirm and take a look. He says, I'm pretty sure we have them. I ask how much are they. He says they'er not much. I ask again, would you please check and let me know how much. I see these in other thrift shops for $15-20 dollars. He says his aren't that cheap. I ask how much are yours. He replies more that that. I said that doesn't help me. For Pete's sake, you are not working with me at all on anything I ask. You don't let people know your a business when you answer the phone and argue with them about I called you etc. He is not willing to walk over to physically see if he has a cd or cassette player and not willing to tell me how much he charges. I push him again for a price. He says the CD player and cassette players are over $80 each. I say, that's why I'm asking. I don't want to pay that much. He says his have been gone over and work. I said that doesn't matter to me. What ever shop I buy from, they will take it back if it doesn't work, even at $15. He says I knew you didn't want to spend any money that's why I didn't tell you. I said when someone asks for a price, simply tell them. Don't make drama out of it, that's insulting. Then he hangs up on me. Ask yourself, do you want to be treated this way? Shame on him. He wanted to argue with me about everything. I called him back, of course he didn't take the call. I left him a messaging saying he just earned a negative one star on yelp. You brought it on with you bad attitude. I don' know what position this Roberto has (answering machine message says she is his daughter leaving the recording. I'm assume it's his business.) It's been along time since I've run into a rude business owner. I've only left one other Yelp review and it was 5 starts. Sorry Roberto, you deserve this review to be read by others.

As…read moresomeone who values thrifting and supporting nonprofits, I really appreciated being able to give donated items a second life while also finding affordable creative supplies. Lately though, the pricing has increased to the point where it's hard to justify shopping here anymore. A lot of donated items are being priced very close to retail, even when their condition is uncertain. For example, I recently saw a used pack of fabric markers priced at $10 when a brand new set costs $15. With secondhand art supplies, you don't know how much ink is left, whether every color still works, or how old the items are, so pricing them that high makes thrifting here feel less worthwhile. I used to leave with a whole handful of items every visit, but now I'm lucky if I find one or two things reasonably priced. Judging by other reviews, I'm not the only customer noticing this shift. I completely understand this is a nonprofit and that operating costs exist, but part of what made this store special was accessibility and affordability. I'd really love to see pricing become more realistic again, especially for used craft and creative supplies.
