It's incredibly rare for me to give 5-star reviews on Yelp, and even rarer to wish there were bonus stars -- but Jim has absolutely earned them. His team exceeded every expectation, and I'm not easily impressed. Here's why: 1. Best pricing -- hands down. Out of four turf companies I contacted (all highly rated), Jim gave the most competitive quote. Not cut-rate -- just honest, fair, and transparent. 2. Top-tier craftsmanship. The final result speaks for itself. The quality of the turf install was professional and clean -- no shortcuts, no signs of cheap work. And we're very particular with certain things. 3. Unmatched attention to detail. From the gravel to the wood trim to how they cleaned up weeds around our established trees -- nothing was overlooked. Every detail made it clear: Jim and his crew take real pride in their work. 4. The crew? Actually respectful and kind. This part stood out. We've worked with other contractors / teams who barely make eye contact, leave trash behind, and feel transactional. Jim's crew was the exact opposite -- friendly, respectful, and clearly well-treated. They seemed happy to be there, and it showed. Additionally, their cleanup was spotless every day and it was almost weird since we've been so used to the opposite. I know this is starting to sound like a paid testimonial -- but it's not. I wasn't given a discount or asked to write this. I just feel strongly that when a business shows this level of professionalism, integrity, and pride in their work, people NEED to know. TL;DR: I will never hire anyone else for turf work. Jim's team delivers a level of quality and care that's almost impossible to find these days -- all while staying competitively priced. Don't ever retire, Jim!

Their responsiveness was excellent, they completed the work on time, and the price was fair and matched the quote. Rick explained the process clearly, answered our questions, and made sure the design fit our needs. The team took care to protect our existing trees and plants while creating an open, dog-friendly play area. The turf, curved border, and level transition to the patio look beautiful. They kept the work area clean and explained how to care for the turf before finishing. Our two dogs already love their new play area, and we're enjoying the backyard more than ever! We highly recommend Rick and his team!

Our original plan included the front yard, backyard, and curbside. After discussing our budget, we decided to complete only the front and backyard for now and save the curbside for later. What really impressed us was that Phillip told us he would honor the same quoted price whenever we're ready to finish the curbside. I've honestly never had a business make that kind of commitment, and it speaks volumes about his integrity and customer-first approach. The installation crew of three was outstanding. They were professional, hardworking, and incredibly friendly throughout the project. We have a young son who was fascinated watching them work every day. The crew was so kind and patient with him that he ended up becoming their biggest fan--he kept bringing them water, snacks, and even ice cream each day because he enjoyed having them around so much! The finished turf looks amazing, and we're very happy with the quality of the work. If you're looking for a company that's honest, fairly priced, does excellent work, and genuinely cares about its customers, I highly recommend Phillip and his team. We'll definitely be calling him back when we're ready to complete the curbside.

I went into my engagement with high hopes, based mostly on the quality of their website and some of…read morethe YouTube videos I watched of the installs. Ordering from the website was easy and clear. That's about the only positive thing I can say: 1. The delivery process was completely opaque. I tried calling the numbers on the emails I received to get a delivery date. First I went to someone's voicemail. The second number was no longer in service. Then some guy, who'd apparently been monitoring the voicemail, called and told me he'd get right back to me about a delivery date. He also told me that the delivery company would call me the day before, and if I didn't answer or couldn't be there for the delivery, they would cancel everything. That's the last I heard from anyone. 2. Weeks later, I tried emailing their customer service again and got Autumn Scoggins of Catalina Home Customer Support (apparently the distributor of SmartTurf), who told me she'd track down my order. I didn't hear back from here, but did get an all from the delivery company saying they'd be there the next day. Well, okay. 3. The delivery driver showed up in a full-sized semi and refused to try to get it to my driveway. We had to tug the 300 lb roll of turf out of the truck by hand and then drag it a half block to my home. Then return to the truck and load all the infill and Air Drain tiles into my car for transport. 4. On unrolling the turf, we discovered that it was sliced completely across the roll in one place -- not completely but we couldn't install it that way. We had to purchase a patch kit and repair the cut prior to install. Also, 2 of the Air Drain tiles we so damaged they were not usable. I reached out again to Autumn at Catalina, who appeared very concerned and said she'd work with the company to see about a partial refund. A month later, Autumn hasn't returned emails. Since replacing the turf would have been a complete nightmare, we decided to patch the defective roll and install it anyway. The product seems pretty good -- but I don't think we'll ever do business with Smart Turf or Catalina Home again. Ghosted by Catalina and SmartTurf.
