We also enjoyed the fenced-in outdoor area with the open kitchen! It was a fun night out and my only regret was not looking into parking beforehand. Since that was 10+ years ago, obviously lots of things have changed. I do love the wooden interior. It has more of a classic tavern feel than most of the newer/more cheaply-built bars in the campus area. It has high ceilings and two main rooms, the one you walk into with the bar, and another to the right with a small stage and dance floor/high top tables. The first room has 2 pool tables, which is why I have visited more recently when some of my other go-to pool spots are too busy. Drinks are on the cheap side, with most of your basic options but this is not a spot to expect a specialty cocktail or a super wide variety of spirits. It's not a bad spot for pitchers of beer or your basic shots and mixed drinks. I would definitely rate Ruby higher because I've had great experiences there, but the service lately has been hit or miss. The last time the bartenders refused to change the music to a different channel, insisting on playing country and encouraging us to buy each song we wanted via touch tunes. On this same visit, the staff seemed super unfriendly serving drinks, and another staff member was mopping the floor while customers were still ordering drinks at around 10:30 on a Friday night. I understand that this place tends to close when customers are gone toward the end of the night, but it seemed like the staff really didnt want anyone to be there. I wouldn't think ownership would want staff to be pushing paying customers out on one of the busiest nights for bars. I'm sure I'll be back at some point, but if I go in to check if there's a pool table open and notice any of those same staff members from the last time, I might just head home.

I l mainly ike IPAs, sours, and sometimes porters. And there were only a handful I wanted to try, though there are a lot of taps. There is probably something for everyone here, but I wish there were enough new and different things that when I return, I might find 5-10 I want to try each time. I'll try again after a while to see if they've changed out the taps. Staff is nice, great location, and I love the concept.

It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall/dive bar, which honestly, is my favorite. I'm much more of a laid back person than the high-end bars downtown or the Short North. They have karaoke on Thursday's and it gets pretty busy! The vibe was awesome, people cheering for others even if they weren't American Idol-level. A close friend of mine MC's for it and uses a website that has almost 40k songs and you can reserve your spot and choose your song from it. It's pretty awesome not to lug those huge song books around. Our bartender Ashley was so sweet and attentive, sang some songs (she has a great voice) and worked really hard to keep everyone happy. Please know, there is no kitchen. However, they ordered pizza for everyone. Go up and grab a drink from Ashley! You can tell she enjoys her job!

The doors were open (nice day) but it was still dark and smelled like smoke. There's darts and pool. There may have been food options but I didn't stay long enough to try them. If I'm ever in the area and want a cheap beer, that's definitely a good place to go. Nice to have this experience with so many fancy breweries opening up around town for balance.
