Single scoop Rocky Road
Bailey B.

I tried Three Scoops for the first time what feels like forever ago -- back before the pandemic, after dinner with girlfriends at nearby Big Bowl Thai. It was my suggestion we go; I wanted to try some place new for dessert. I wound up being embarrassed to have recommended it. The service was unfriendly, the inside of the shop was on the grimy side and sparsely decorated, and the ice cream was mediocre for a fairly high price. I wrote a less than glowing review and posted it, but later wound up doing something I rarely do: deleting said review. I saw someone post on the business' media that the shop was really struggling, and even though I'd had an unpleasant experience, I just felt sort of guilty -- although I didn't enjoy my visit to Three Scoops the first time, it's not like I don't want them to succeed. I resolved to try again later and revisit my opinion. Well, years down the line, "later" finally occurred. Came in earlier this week to see if they'd improved any, as clearly the business never struggled enough to shut down, even through the pandemic. I will grant them this: service was better this time. The man came out from the back as the bell rang when I walked in and he was nothing but polite and helpful. So that's good. Inside isn't still dirty, exactly, but it is sort of...I dunno, maybe run down is the right word. Not a lot of tables or decorations, the floor doesn't look gross exactly but just like it's seen better days, and seemingly all the tubs of ice cream were low on product, which just isn't very enticing. I wasn't as impressed with the variety of flavors this time, either. Nothing unusual or interesting or more unique than your standard moose tracks or otter paws. Kinda reminded me of what you'd see on the shelves at a smaller grocery store. They do one unique thing that I'm intrigued by -- ice cream stuffed cupcakes. I've heard some buzz about this and would've liked to try one, but I saw no sign of the product in the shop, other than a small poster encouraging patrons to place orders for them on the wall. But there were none on display and they weren't on the menu, so I can only assume it's a special order only kind of deal. Maybe I'm wrong. I wasn't hungry enough to make a special request. I ordered a single scoop of a Rocky Road equivalent (chocolate ice cream, marshmallow swirl, toasted almonds). The poor kind employee took about a minute and a half just to scrape out a scoop from the dwindling tub. Some ice cream shops have pretty generous pulls on their small/single scoops, but this place means it when they say single scoop. Which is honestly fine -- it's what I ordered -- but the price tag was around $4.50, and honestly I could get a pint of a superior tasting ice cream for that. I don't mind paying a premium if it's better than what I can get at the store...but this wasn't. Look, I don't believe in such a thing as bad ice cream, outside of literally spoiled ice cream, which this was not. But it was bottom of the barrel as far as quality and consistency, as far as I'm concerned. Like Walmart brand ice cream, basically. I got one small mouthful of marshmallow swirl through the whole thing. There were maybe three small pieces of stale, soggy almond slivers in my cup, two of which I got on my first bite. And the chocolate ice cream was overwhelmingly sweet -- no bitter or nuanced chocolate flavors at all. Perhaps the worst part was the consistency of it. I can only describe it as sticky. It was hard to pull it apart with my spoon, not because it was too hard/frozen, but because it was like...glued together. Really weird texture. It was similarly oddly and unpleasantly sticky when eating it, too. I still hope this business can find success, but after two less than stellar experiences, I stand by my initial impression. Perhaps others will have better luck here than I did.

YESSSSSSSSS. I am a lover of milkshakes OMG. I love the variety of flavors. I hate basic milkshake flavors. We got moose tracks and key lime pie. The flavor of both were amazing. I especially loved my Key like pie attention to detail with the pie crust! It definitely tastes like a pie!! Customer service was good. The lady was super quiet but seemed sweet. Thanks!!

Cute and cheery inside. All the employees were attentive and friendly. Lots of different flavors, and they even have protein shakes. Tried the watermelon sorbet (light and refreshing!) and the dulce de leche (creamy caramel goodness). Will be back again to try some of their other flavors.

Such good ice cream! I had the mint-trax double scoop in a waffle cone. I loved every bit of it. My husband had a peach double scoop in a regular bowl and loved it. The service was friendly and they had sampling available. Our new ice cream stop!

Nothing special. They don't make their own ice cream, and it was way too soft. Got a cookie, and that didn't taste very fresh.

The dining tables are lined up against the windows and extend into the middle of the space. The rest of the interior space is occupied by various tables and stands of baked goods and treats. This visit was my first time ever having food. I ordered the bacon omelet with grits and toast. It was fine, nothing spectacular. It was good enough for me to eat there again but nothing that I'd say you have to go out and get. If you haven't tried the strawberry cake or strawberry cupcake, you HAVE TO- MUST- stop in and try one or both of them.

We had a Banana Pudding Roll $8.00. The roll was nicely done not too chewy and just enough cinnamon. The slices of banana add wow on this one. We also had a Strawberry Shortcake Roll. Again the base of all the rolls is the same. Not too chewy baked just right with a nice amount of cinnamon inside. The strawberry spread and slices made it into another wow creation. This store is maybe seven miles from our home, and these cookies were not packed/boxed well to travel and retain their decorations. Hubs sent them photos of the cookies (the box all six cookies were in was sealed with a sticker when he picked them up) and the store set him up with four replacement cookies. I thought this was a great, kind gesture! Hopefully Cookie Fix will fix their packaging issues and will correct their design problems. Cookies are available individually and can also be grouped in tins, and there's even some frozen dough available to take and bake. There's a beverage cooler available and options for ordering cookie cakes and setting up fundraising opportunities as well. It's worth noting that there doesn't appear to be any seating indoors or out. I'd guess that their most direct competitor would be Crumbl, so a few things worth noting for comparison: pricing of these cookies is cheaper than Crumbl at around $3 each, but they are also much smaller than Crumbl cookies despite having a thick center. The Cookie Fix cookies didn't seem overly sweet in the off-putting way that some find Crumbl's to be, which is great. Both cookies we tried were soft, fresh, and warm with great notes of cinnamon, coconut, oats, and walnuts. The Coffee Toffee didn't really have much of a coffee taste in my opinion, but it had a gooey, chocolatey center that was delicious. Overall would recommend for an occasional treat, just know that you'll be looking at $3ish per cookie!

Review is only for atmosphere and service; I was unable to actually try the food because of, well,…read moreservice. Only reason this is a 2 star instead of a 1 -- it's possible the ice cream is good, but I sure didn't get to try it. Located off the main drag of highway in Madison, this is a small chain offering rolled ice cream, milkshakes, cookies, and liege waffles with decadent toppings. It's been here a little while and so I thought I'd stop by for an afternoon treat while waiting to attend an event nearby. I entered into the smallish, narrow space and was immediately struck by how...dead it felt. There was one other customer (or perhaps an owner/manager, though if it was, that's kind of disappointing given my experience). It was kind of dark inside and it smelled weird -- not noxious or anything but a little musty and certainly not a yummy, sweet, ice cream, cookie, or waffle scent like you might expect. I wasn't greeted but I wandered up to the register where an employee was listlessly -- and I mean LISTLESSLY - pushing around a few sad ice cream rolls. Every other time I've watched ice cream get rolled the worker has almost been like a hibachi chef, rapidly cutting, dicing, rolling, and flipping. This reminded me of picking a scab. I said hello; I don't remember if the young female employee said anything back, she might've muttered an acknowledgement but it definitely wasn't a warm welcome. Having never been here before, I was a little unclear on the process (eg, what are mix-ins vs toppings; what's available; are there pre-made creations, etc), but she never offered to answer any questions or render assistance, even as I stood for several minutes gazing up at the menu. All I heard from her for a while - as she continued to listlessly scrape the ice cream around - were several very loud, gnarly-sounding sniffles. They were bad enough that I started to feel concerned she was sick. These concerns were further worsened by the fact she wasn't wearing gloves. While that thought flickered through my mind, I abruptly heard her say, "I'm sorry." I assumed she was talking to me since I'd been waiting for a while, and so I reflexively said, "You're fine!" I quickly realized she wasn't speaking to me at all and was instead having a conversation on the phone through the headphones she was wearing. Nice. This went on for another minute or two -- it was a fairly personal conversation and she seemed to be consoling someone on the other end -- and I just decided it wasn't worth the hassle and frustration. Y'all know I try my best to be very forgiving of service and such but this was a bridge too far for me. I had read reviews prior to coming here about service being bad and I thought surely people were overreacting or being entitled but now I don't think so. Perhaps the product is good, but you'll be hard-pressed to sell much of it if employees aren't even willing to make it for customers.

This dessert shop is located in a sort of inauspicious looking shopping mall in Madison. It's right next door to Just Love Coffee and a storefront that says it's about to become "Dogtopia." The parking lot is very long and fairly wide; no troubles there. I arrived right after they opened and it was spotless and had that nice, bright, clean scent I associate with freshly mopped floors. I understand it's sometimes annoying to have a customer come in on the early side of opening, but a staff member came out and served me politely. I explained I'd never visited before and she gave me a brief run down of what kind of treat I could build. They have Italian ice, soft serve, and then what they call gelati -- not to be confused as the plural of gelato; this means a mixture of both Italian ice AND soft serve. This seems to be their signature thing. You can build your own gelati by selecting flavors and toppings, or pick from a curated menu of popular combinations. I chose the latter, since it was less intimidating, lol. If I remember correctly, what I got was called an Oreo mud pie. It had cookies and cream Italian ice, vanilla and chocolate swirled soft serve, and crumbled Oreo pieces layered in. I got the smallest size serving and thought the price was reasonable and the serving size satisfying. Overall, I enjoyed this dessert. I definitely liked the soft serve more than the Italian ice, but that doesn't really surprise me; I usually prefer creamier treats. The soft serve was smooth and had a distinct vanilla flavor. The Italian ice was okay; oddly, it had a peculiar minty taste to it, in addition to the faintly chocolatey, faintly creamy cookies and cream vibe. Perhaps it was made in the same machine as a different, minty flavor? Not really sure what caused it, but I didn't dislike it. I appreciated that the staff member asked while I was eating if I was happy with what I got. This seems like a sweet place to bring kids and family members for a unique dessert. Give it a try sometime.
