My man and I had the pleasure of chatting with the owner, Christopher, who was incredibly kind and welcoming. Jessica was also a pleasure to have as our server. You can tell the people here genuinely care about what they're doing. One thing that makes Ursa stand out is that they roast their own beans in house using small batch, micro lot coffee. My Salted Caramel Frappe tasted so much cleaner and better than what you get from the big chain coffee shops. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try their Tres Leches Frappe and pastries. We both ordered The Platter, which comes with two eggs, hash browns, toast with butter, blueberry and strawberry jam, and your choice of bacon or chorizo. I went with the chorizo, and my man got the bacon. Everything tasted fresh, clean, and flavorful. The atmosphere is another reason this place is worth visiting. It doesn't feel like your typical coffee shop. Local artwork is all over including an art gallery tucked away in the back, you definitely need to check out before exiting. There's plenty of seating whether you're meeting friends, reading a book, or getting some work done. They have Wi-Fi. while we were there, someone was working on a laptop while another person was relaxing with a book. It has a creative, inspiring, and welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay awhile instead of rushing out. If you're in downtown Bridgeport, I definitely recommend stopping by. There's metered street parking right out front, making it an easy spot to visit. Grab a coffee, enjoy breakfast, spend a little time soaking in the atmosphere. They do support their insiders' clique and their own appearance. For instance, there are talented artists in the area who are not rich and can't afford an open sketch at $40 a pop for long pose and $30 a week for short pose. If you do both open sketches a week, that's $70. $70 a week for the right to stand in a room and draw a model--no materials nor instruction. (Nor would I want that.) Proctor said it all goes to the model. I would like to see proof of that! To some of us $70 is grocery money. They haven't a clue. They live in McMansions, likely married to men who've made a fortune. This scene is by the wealthy for the wealthy. Additionally, I am disabled. I can't sketch from 10-3 on the long pose. I physically cannot sustain those hours. So I offered to pay half for half the time. (I would leave during the break.) The proctor refused to accommodate my disability. (I have medical records to prove it.) Cold cruel people run this place! A place where your physical disability will not be accommodated, though they get state and federal funds. Why don't state and national grants go to the models? To reduce the cost of the open sketch for artists? I used to work in a Manhattan art gallery on W57th Street, and even there I did not deal with oversized egos on the level of SAC admin. Looking around the room at the rich duffers who could easily pay 20x the fee, you wonder why admin can't raise all the money from them? I agree with the reviewer who said Silvermine isn't a place for serious adult artists. It is not. --It's a place that just as easily murders talent.

I had the most amazing experience getting tattooed by Frankie! I knew he genuinely cares about his clients because he was able to squeeze me in for an appointment on extremely short notice -- as a college student with a very busy schedule, it wouldn't have been possible for me to get tattooed another time. When I walked into the studio, he instantly created a welcoming and safe environment. I felt really comfortable and knew I could trust him which I think is the most important thing while getting tattooed. I'm so glad he took the time to persuade me to get a bigger tattoo instead of the smaller one I had initially planned because it looks much better this way and would look good for years to come. He cares so much about his craft and clients -- something that was so evident in the way he did my tattoo. He showed me all the different inks he had and told me take my time with the tattoo placement and he even took pictures of the temporary stencil transfer so that I could get an idea of how the tattoo would finally look. The best part about getting tattooed by Frankie was how patient he was throughout. I didn't feel hurried and he made sure I was comfortable and happy with the tattoo I would eventually get. The tattoo procedure itself lasted about ten minutes, was pretty much painless and I felt really safe with Frankie throughout. He explained the aftercare procedure in great detail, too. Overall, it was the best tattoo experience I've had and the tattoo healed really quickly as well. I highly recommend Frankie and I'm so happy with the way my tattoo looks. I can't wait to get more tattoos with him in the future! read more

Frankie has done 4 of my tattoos now and I honestly never want to go to anyone else. I remember being super nervous going for my first tattoo with Frankie as my very first tattoo was done elsewhere and was not a positive experience. Most places are usually a pretty tense environment and not very welcoming, meanwhile Frankie makes sure his studio is the complete opposite of this. He makes sure to chat with you for a bit and get to know you when you first get there, maybe even throw on some tv in the background lol. His studio is not like any other studio either, decorated with his art work, some christmas lights and a whole studio in the front, it's very laid back. Throughout the whole process Frankie takes the time to check in with you. My tattoo on my side killllllled me- probably the first one he would say i couldn't sit like a rock through lol, but he would stop periodically for me and constantly ask if i was okay. I seriously love all my tattoos from Frankie and I've heard him say over and over again that he will never create a tattoo that he wouldn't want himself and I truly know he means that. He will always consult with you before and help create the exact image you have in mind that will work perfectly wherever you choose to place it. Highly recommend him to everyone. read more

The best experience I could have imagined getting my first tattoo came true today at Three Roses Tattoo Studio. The moment i walked in i knew it was going to be a great experience. The environment was more than welcoming. From the cleanliness, to the decor, i was insanely impressed. To top it all off, and probably the most important part was Frankie, the tattoo artist. His personality is authentic, warm, inviting, honest, compassionate, and extremely patient. He made this experience one that my friends and I will never, ever, forget. He thoroughly explained the process and was extremely patient when it came to placement and how we wanted everything. There was no point in which we felt rushed or nervous about getting the tattoo itself. He was extremely relatable, reassuring, funny, friendly, and incredibly talented. We never wanted to leave. It was beyond getting a tattoo, we built a relationship with the artist, and he gave us the insight about how a tattoo is more than a tattoo. It was the best experience we could have asked for. If i ever get another tattoo, i will only return to Three Roses. Thank you Frankie for making this the most memorable day with my best friends. read more

Frankie is an exceptional tattoo artist. He takes his profession very seriously and assures that the customer has the best experience during the whole tattoo process. From thinking of a design with the client to transcribing it perfectly onto the client's skin, Frankie has great artistic abilities and a delicate hand and eye for tattooing. He assures client satisfaction and comfort. He provides a professional yet intimate environment and allows supporters to accompany the client. I had a great experience working with Frankie. He was very accommodating with my ideas and ended up producing a work of art that I am proud of (and he should be as well). As this was my first tattoo he was very patient and made sure that I was comfortable throughout the process. I'd for sure recommend Frankie for anyone who is looking to get a custom piece as he was very easy to work with throughout the design process. He also seemed very accommodating for less planned tattoos, but I can't speak to that experience. Overall awesome experience and would for sure go back if I get another idea for a tattoo. read more

I had a tattoo design in mind for a while, and Ethan did nothing short of deliver exactly what I had hoped for. Ethan is an old school artist - a laid back, patient, non-corporate dude with artistic integrity (with a love for death metal and cars, ha). He's perhaps a bit persnickety about his process, which only told me that he takes his work seriously and truly cares about his clients and his product. I was able to communicate with him via IG message, send him photos of what I was looking to create, and he worked with me the whole way through, and even sent me a rough draft of the design, which many artists don't do (much appreciated). He is flexible with his time and willing to work with you - he overall has a good energy and vibe. I ended up in the hot seat for 4 hours and felt comfortable with him the whole time. Dan didn't arrive until 5 minutes past our schedule time which okay whatever thats fine, except he brought his 3 year old child with him when he finally arrived. It would be one thing if the kid had something to entertain him but no he was throwing things at me and my husband and was all over our artist while trying to draw the outline for our tattoos. Honestly, this was my biggest annoyance and regret for not just walking out, get someone to watch your freaking kid. He kept saying "your mom is going to come soon" but she definitely didn't come until he was mostly through the tracing of our tattoos. In fact at one point Dan was holding his wiggling child that wouldn't sit still while he was tracing one of my tattoos. Besides the annoyance of his toddler being there, Dan was very unprepared and unprofessional. He never properly introduced himself or asked our names. He seemed like he didn't care because we were getting smaller tattoos. He had no idea what we wanted and traced everything which took up most of our time. We each were getting a tattoo for our sick dog and at one point my husband said this and Dan just ignored him. All 4 of our tattoos look horrible, the line work on one of mine is absolutely horrible. It's embarrassing. My husband even made a comment when Dan finished the very small tree he did on my husbands wrist that it didn't look fully green and almost like there was brown in it and Dan got very offended. After another artist tried to give some bs reason why it looked like that, my husband let it go. After he finished all of our tattoos, he immediately said we can come back in a month for touch ups. Yeah fucking right, we're never setting foot in that place again. Lastly, their bathroom was disgusting. Unfortunately, we didn't realize this until after he finished our tattoos. There was a huge puddle on the floor in the front of the toilet and there were no paper towels anywhere to dry your hands and that was the only sink in this tiny basement they call a tattoo shop.
