"blowout tattoo" tattoo too deep causing the ink to bleed and skin the scar & raise
    Isabella S.

I would strongly advice against getting a tattoo here. I spoke with the owner of the shop (Frankie) directly about the tattoo I wanted. It was my first tattoo and I was very clear about the size, font, and placement of my tattoo. While emailing Frankie, he seemed very accommodating and knowledgeable which was important to me and my dad. I got my tattoo at age 17, and looking back I was very naive. I initially felt comfortable getting such a meaningful tattoo done, however when I arrived at the shop I felt very uncomfortable. Frankie didn't tell me until my appointment that the tattoo I wanted needed to be bigger. Again, I had been very clear that I wanted a small lettering tattoo but at my appointment he insisted that it needed to be larger. I have seen small lettering tattoos many times that are much better quality than the tattoo frankie did on me. He should have been honest about his ability rather than saying what I wanted wasn't possible. In my appointment, Frankie also claimed to be ranked number 7 nationally as a tattoo artist, which is NOT true. With all of his talk and it being my first tattoo, I wasn't experienced enough to see through his bs. I submitted a google review stating what had happened and he responded by saying it was my fault bec of the after care. This is so far from the truth. I have several other tattoos now that have healed beautifully and haven't bled. My other tattoo artists' refer to Frankie's tattoo as a "blowout" meaning he tattooed too deep causing the ink to bleed. I went to a dermatologist to get the tattoo removed bec the handwriting was not legible, however I learned that because Frankie tattooed so deep, my skin was scarred and raised wherever he tattooed. As I read other reviews I noticed this was common for him. Frankie, I'm not bashing you and I'm 19 so don't attack me like you did in my last review. You've already messed up the most meaningful tattoo I could have. I'm sharing my experience and trying to educate others so they can make informed decisions and hopefully this won't happen to anyone else. I attached a photo from a few hours after my tattoo and then again when it was healed. This is not a healing problem. This is an artist problem.

Excellent experience! Frankie's studio is a true gem of Fairfield county. If you're looking for a place to get a meaningful tattoo that is not like a traditional biker parlor - this is the place for you. Frankie has step up his studio to be inviting and calming. It is very clean - coming from someone that works in the healthcare field that's the first thing I noticed. I also watched Frankie disinfect throughly after my tattoo was complete. My husband was able to sit near me on a couch and watch tv during my entire tattoo - which was comforting to me. Frankie is the only artist at the studio and is highly professional. He takes the time to educate you on the tattooing process. He also makes suggestions on how best to preserve your tattoo and what to expect during the healing process. I also felt his pricing was extremely fair - especially for the area. Overall great experience! I will definitely be back for my next tattoo.

The up side is that I didn't get an infection. I'm currently in the process of getting the tattoo I got from here removed. It's really not good.

I got my second tattoo here and it has caused me to question if I ever want another. I went to the owner wanting a small heart, but he insisted I needed to make it bigger because of fading (I understand this is standard for many tattoos however the end result could certainly have been done a lot smaller as I have seen others with far better results) I agreed as I had little experience or knowledge of tattoos and trusted him when he said he could not make it smaller. However, after the tattoo healed it was clear there was one line that had bleed making it thicker than the other lines and therefore the tattoo entirely uneven. It even caused people to jokingly ask if I had drawn on myself (not realizing it was a tattoo). I ended up having to get it fixed at a different tattoo parlor, causing the tattoo to be far thicker than I imagined. The owner had amazing intentions but I believe he could have been more straightforward with me and his abilities rather than making up a bs excuse about how I had to make the tattoo I wanted bigger than necessary. The photos shows after the tough up work though I believe it is still clear the bottom left side is not correct and the sizing is beyond what a professional tattoo artist could do.

Frankie was amazing! I was a little nervous coming in as it was my first tattoo but as soon as I walked into his studio I felt so comfortable. The overall atmosphere is very calming and Frankie is clearly so passionate about his work, I knew I was in good hands. He has such a light touch and rib tattoos can be pretty painful, but it was nothing compared to what I was imagining. I would recommend Three Roses to anyone and everyone looking to get a tattoo. I am absolutely in love with his work and I don't have enough good things to say about him.

It wasn't "hoppin" like the gallery across the street that was bringing people into their opening with Heinikens, but rather a crowd of art enthusiasts (young and old) that were all up for mingling and good conversation. This place isn't ideal as far as galleries go, but they know how to use their space even though the layout is a bit weird. It felt crunched during the opening so I do suggest going during normal hours (Tues-Sat, 11-6) to view the artwork. As I said - Chris Wright, Joseph Piccillo, and Robert Hendrickson (?) are all on view currently. I think the next includes Michael Rich.... it'll be up March 25th-April 26th....and the opening is March 29th. Check out their website for current/past/ or future artists!! www.georgebillis.com

I signed in and wrote to him that his art made me feel normal for wanting to eat the soap at Bath & Body Works. I am taking 4 stars away because Silvermine Art Center gets grants on the basis of "supporting arts…read moreand artists." And they do not in principle accomplish that, in my opinion. They do support their insiders' clique and their own appearance. For instance, there are talented artists in the area who are not rich and can't afford an open sketch at $40 a pop for long pose and $30 a week for short pose. If you do both open sketches a week, that's $70. $70 a week for the right to stand in a room and draw a model--no materials nor instruction. (Nor would I want that.) Proctor said it all goes to the model. I would like to see proof of that! To some of us $70 is grocery money. They haven't a clue. They live in McMansions, likely married to men who've made a fortune. This scene is by the wealthy for the wealthy. Additionally, I am disabled. I can't sketch from 10-3 on the long pose. I physically cannot sustain those hours. So I offered to pay half for half the time. (I would leave during the break.) The proctor refused to accommodate my disability. (I have medical records to prove it.) Cold cruel people run this place! A place where your physical disability will not be accommodated, though they get state and federal funds. Why don't state and national grants go to the models? To reduce the cost of the open sketch for artists? I used to work in a Manhattan art gallery on W57th Street, and even there I did not deal with oversized egos on the level of SAC admin. Looking around the room at the rich duffers who could easily pay 20x the fee, you wonder why admin can't raise all the money from them? I agree with the reviewer who said Silvermine isn't a place for serious adult artists. It is not. --It's a place that just as easily murders talent.
